Isn't the q in "quattro" written in lowercase? Yeah, technically true. That's how Audi always do it.  Just a bit difficult to overcome a basic trait of the English language, especially at 3am.

Funnily enough, the Audi Quattro is also a bit of a confusing one, but not as much as the Impreza. Basically you have the Quattro S1 and the Quattro E2.  There's no such thing as the Quattro S1 E2. Really, the S1 should have been called the E1. John Davenport wrote up a piece about it that's readable here http://www.ableitet.no/twentyS1/s1vse2.htm

Knew the Ibiza had been in one. Might be thinking of Sega Rally 2 and V-Rally 2 for the 306.

Pretty sure the 306 and Ibiza kitcars have appeared in the series before.

The whole of Group B was originally meant to be a cars only pack before it was shifted to be in the initial release, so that should give an idea.

I championed the Quattro Evo 2 right at the start since it's probably the most iconic representation of Group B, was in the original CMR, hasn't been in a Codies came since 2005 and is a better fit to be up against the RS200, 205 Evo 2 and Delta S4. All but certain its not going to happen though.

I doubt if they ALL have to be a new class of car. I would imagine class also refers to the categories in the game rather than IRL. Expanding on the 2000 and 2010 categories would seem likely. Think that's a 2008/09 Focus WRC?

I can assure you, that low has nothing to do with lack of ads. It's due to drastically rising prices. People stop smoking because it gets too expensive. Please don't just pull something like that out of thin air.  Absolutely it's a factor, a huge one amongst many, but you can't state as if it's a fact that advertising restrictions have not had any impact at all, just because you think they don't.  Same for how 30% of all ads and about 50% of the packaging must also have government health warnings, or how a number of countries have now banned smoking in public places. It's a combination of many factors. Moving on now, dead horse is dead. It's such an old subject that even affected the first Colin McRae Rally on the Playstation (Lancia Delta). Hopefully an agreement can be reached to feature a censored version of the Martini Racing focus, ala every previous Martini Racing livery in a Codemasters game.

Yea and it's such nonsense, it's not like I knew Martini was an alcoholic beverage when I was a kid, I just loved the livery. And in the time I've been using the livery mods in DiRT 3 I never thought, hm I need to get me some Martini. It's just the governments trying to fix (non existing) problems in the wrong way. And we're the victims.  Think we're getting just a bit carried away to start calling ourselves 'victims' because we can't have an (official), 100% historically accurate livery on a virtual car. Especially in comparison not only to people who are addicted to either alcohol or tobacco, but also the taxpayers in countries with 'free' healthcare or have to foot the bill to treat the results. There are two separate things at work here. Firstly, that an agreement hasn't been reached with Martini regarding using a part of their brand identity. Secondly, laws preventing the actual complete Martini logo. Let's not pretend video games are being singled out here. Alcohol and tobacco companies are not allowed to advertise on kids TV channels or comic books and in many places where TV adverts are still allowed, it's only after a certain time. 9pm in the UK (alcohol only. Tobacco isn't at all). With the number of smokers at an all time low, who's to say it's not helping?

Don't be surprised if that's part of the reason why! Going further back, the original Sega Rally actually had the full Martini logo and writing as well.  That game came in a very different era. We're talking about 'gentlemen's agreements' as opposed to licensing. Sponsors weren't actually licensed, they just used them. Probably part of why its never been properly re-released (except for a Japan & Korea only PS2 bonus disc in 2006), despite 2015 being the 20th anniversary of one of the most influential racing games of all time. Polyphony Digital are more likely to have gotten an actual license, but censored the logo. The logo is in fact present, but the word "Martini" is censored into black and white blocks, like the Malboro barcode Ferrari use in F1 until the end of the 00's. Gran Turismo is a bit of a special case where several car makers and brands actually approach them about wanting to be in the game.

Liveries without licensed sponsors can always be included. For example a pure Martini livery without sponsors can be easily included, or a simple matte black skin with some DiRT Rally stickers in a lighter black on it. Liveries don't start or end at licensed ones only. Not true. We couldn't put the Martini stripes into the game without permission from Martini as they hold the rights. At this stage we are unable to agree terms but we are still trying. Separate to that we couldn't write Martini on the livery because it is an alcohol brand and that is a restriction placed on video games.  Never would've imagined they would actually trademark the stripes... But then how can they even prove it's "their stripes"? It's not like only they use that kind of style of stripes in liveries (Viper GTS-R Team Oreca comes to mind immediately). Also I assume it's the restriction in UK? Never heard about alcohol brand not being allowed to be put into video games in Poland for example. The stripes in the Martini colours of light and dark blue with red are part of their brand identity, so they are protected. You could try defending it in court but not only would that be expensive, if it was an obvious recreation of a real livery, you'd be certain to lose. All they'd have to do is show a photo of an actual Martini Racing Ford Focus WRC. Same goes for typefaces and pretty much everything that's identifiable as part of the brand. For example if someone tried to use Mylius, the British Airways font. There's been crackdowns on alcohol advertising throughout the 00's. In the US, alcohol advertising can only be placed in media where 70% of the audience is above the legal drinking age of 21. So video games is a difficult case. There are also EU laws which all EU member states, including Poland, must abide by. Specific countries can have more strict laws, like France, but countries can't (or shouldn't) have more lenient ones than the EU dictates.

I think liveries were ruled out as well for the same reason as cars.

I'm surprised that a new road book is up and WRC5 is the main topic of gossip. =P Especially with a sentance like this: On top of that there are also some super secret cars that we have started to look at, right now they are very much in the prototype phase but I’ll hopefully have something more to say about them later on in the year.Something they have only just started to look at but are in the prototype phase and hopefully doable in 2 months? Could it be Toyota back on the cards?

I may have fallen for a troll, but on the assumption the above is a serious statement: Subaru is a division of FHI. FHI is partially owned by Toyota. Mitsubishi is a standalone entity. Where is the connection? Owns as in internet lingo?

I was going by memory. It was TMG who talked about SLRE and said they hadn't been contacted by Codemasters and were unaware of DiRT Rally (also that its not their responsibility to be aware of all racing games in the works). What I meant stands though: point of contact. Milestone seem to have gone to Toyota via TMG, who may have helped encourage corporate or those responsible within the company.

Here what we won't get because toyota are made of assholes right now It may be a budget issue to, Toyota may want too much for the license, and they can't afford it with the CURRENT budget.  Maybe the next game will have a larger budget since Codies sees the success that DiRT Rally is.   I spoke about this with Lee a while back when we first visited, not sure if I can say the reason, but I think it was basically that Toyota just wouldn't give it to them We'll never know the full story. TRD said they'd never been approached about DiRT Rally, but they had been by Milestone for SLRE. In fact, it was TRD that basically revealed Toyota would be in SLRE before an actual announcement was made. One of the problems with a huge company like Toyota is something as mundane as your point of contact might make a huge difference.

    Colin McRae Rally

But but but what about the 5-4-3-2-1-GO of the first game!? I spent all of 5 minutes recreating that in Sony Vegas back in May! Colin McRae Rally memory on Playstation - Playing two player when I was 14 and it was so tense, down to the wire at the end of Greece that one of my calf muscles cramped up badly. Whole muscle popped out and knotted, so I ended up on the floor.

When I carried a lot of speed into a corner, the car went up on two wheels... this made me not trust it. Can that be possible (on gravel)? Physics issue? Sure it's possible. Rally cars are more susceptible than most racing cars as well between a higher CoG, softer suspension and less downforce. Compared to a circuit racer, a rally car is like a Land Rover. That's the fine line between driving to the limits and exceeding them. I can clearly see what you mean on tarmac... but its not so clear when we´re talking about gravel/mud. Reaching such level of grip on gravel I think its impossible... even in turns with bad camber. Dont know... I´m not an expert and never driven a rally car. It's not just about grip. In fact, lack of grip can potentially make it worse as it allows you to get more sideways with more speed.  Suspension on one side fully compressed, and fully uncompressed on the other side. Throw in a higher CoG and you have all the components of a roll. If you're going fast enough, it's not going to take too much in the way of a bump or undulation to push it over the edge.

But why......? Told you ages ago not to get your hopes about about mega new cars or entirely new game modes. =p Personally, I think it's a huge anti-climax for all the teasing Lee did. Could say it was a big old farewell troll. Of course, could also just think of the 2000 class cars as Zero Cars as well. Double meaning and all that.

So then, Zero cars.  Basically, new DiRT Rally themed skins, numbered 00, for the Ford Escort Mk 2, Peugeot 405 T16 Pikes Peak and the VW Polo Rally Cross. Also

Unlikely. Steam's Cloud has nothing to do with learderboards or online features, those are on Codies servers. Steam Cloud is just a backup of your local save game.
