    F1 2015 car thread

I could've just made a post about this in the stuff thread but I figure we need a  place to speak about all the new cars as they are released anyway. I know that's still a fair bit away, but there's still plenty of speculation to be interested about surrounding the top 5 teams (and Lotus).  Mercedes W06: Reported improvements to fuel injection system. New exhaust configuration compromising aerodynamics for power output. ERS architecture also rumoured to be having a radical change made to it. All these factors could produce up to a 70hp improvement on last season for Mercedes. Red Bull RB11: Red Bull will be Renault's works team in 2015. Red Bull reportedly taking over the ERS design of the the new Renault power unit, while Renault will concentrate on the ICE. New Renault power unit not expected to follow Mercedes split turbo design. Renault power unit expected to undertake a major packaging change. Red Bull expected to keep S duct system. Ferrari 666:  Ferrari, unlike Renault, expected to follow Mercedes style split turbo. They are rumoured to yet again retain the front pull rod suspension. Different sources report different things about the Ferrari nose - some say it will follow the Mercedes concept while others say it will follow the RB path. Mercedes style lower wishbone on the front suspension. After initially disastrous wind tunnel numbers, the 666 is now back on track and producing slightly more downforce than the F14T. Williams FW37: Not much to report, some rumours say Williams are producing a "safe" car. No apparent reason why they won't continue with their low drag philosophy, and heavily undercut side pods. Obvious area of improvement would be aero, and perhaps a more flexible to set up suspension for help in wet weather. Mclaren MP4-30:  In short, Peter Prodromou has arrived and told Mclaren their aero direction is totally wrong. RB style front wing in Abu Dhabi in 2014 suggests the new Mclaren will follow much of the Red Bull philosophy that Prodromou helped create. Also, like Ferrari, rumoured to be following the RB10 style nose solution. New Honda power unit making mixed reports - some say it's on schedule, while other voices say the unit is thirsty and underpowered. This is particularly concerning considering the Honda approach has been to focus on performance over reliability to begin - with the knowledge that reliability can be improved during the season. Lotus E23: Bad news for Maldonado. The car has failed it's first crash test.

    F1 2014 season review

Okay, so I think I've done this the past 3 or 4 seasons now, so I might as well continue it in to a 4th or a 5th to continue the tradition. Best driver(s) of the season: Worst driver(s) of the season: Most disappointing driver(s) of the season: Best team(s) of the season: Most disappointing team(s) of the season: Surprise of the season: Most improved driver of the season: Personality of the season: Race of the season: Drive of the season: Overtake of the season: Qualifying lap of the season: Battle of the season: Start of the season: Controversial moment of the season: Pit crew of the season: Plus any other comments on the season as a whole :)
  3. The most challenging, glamorous and prestigious grand prix of the year is this weekend. It's Monaco *hurrah*. I'm not going to post a picture of the track as I think we all know what it looks like by now.  The circuit is 3.34 km in length.  The race distance is 78 laps long. The tyre allocation will predictably be soft and supersoft tyres - although it will be the first time we see the supersoft tyres this year.  Most interestingly of all though is at the moment the initial weather for Sunday is high intensity rain. Although with the race still 6 days away this is likely to change.

It's not the end of the world. Audi have given a lot to the WEC but the LMP1 class has survived with only two teams before and has had many great Le Mans in recent times with only two teams in the mix - such as the classic race in 2011 which was just Audi vs Peugeot.  With Porsche now in prime position to extend their advantage in the Le Mans 'all time wins' list and Toyota just utterly desperate to win it for the first time after getting screwed this year, the fight between those two should still be a good one presuming they stay evenly matched.

This is correct.  Personally I can't stand Di Resta. He's more boring than a toothpick and only has one emotional tone to his voice - depressed. You wouldn't know that he supposedly has a passion for the sport. It's going to be a painful weekend.

So, the 6 hours of Spa was something. Real race of attrition, once again a private LMP1 team ended up on the podium. LMP2 was also brilliant, after six hours of racing the 4 leading cars in class were separated by less than 6 seconds at the flag. The lead was also decided with just 5 minutes to go with a fabulous move involving the two cars going either side of a backmarker in to the Fagnes chicane.  Judging by the first two races it's going to be a pretty wild Le Mans.

Arghh, it burns. Awesome photos though. The LMP2 cars look gorgeous this year. Consider me jealous.

You do know that no racing takes place in practice right? :p Should be fun though. Hope you get a clearer day than is forecast. And try not to stare at the Audi too long, that thing is ugly as hell this season.

Sky don't really care about viewership, more just subscription numbers. While they might be experiencing lower viewership now, the initial bout of new subscriptions from having F1 as a part of their service is what they want. And now just because people maybe stop watching F1, it doesn't mean they've removed their subscription, as people find other things they still like to watch on Sky Sports.  But other than that, I agree. Bernie's position right now within F1 kind of reminds me of George Lucas with Star Wars. He created something wonderful and made the world embrace his sport/sci-fi film series in a way no other man could've done, but it's just not safe in his hands any more.  Perhaps the the thing that best reflects that fact is these comments from the man himself 5 years ago: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/8501431/Turkish-Grand-Prix-2011-Bernie-Ecclestone-says-television-rights-deal-with-Rupert-Murdoch-would-be-suicidal.html

It looks good but I don't see why they felt the need to draft in Nic Hamilton, especially when they've already got 7 other capable pundits. Also, Karun Chandhok technical reporter? I was hoping C4 might've undone BBC's mistake of getting rid of Gary Anderson given he was the best technical mind on TV. Chandhok seems like a strange choice for that role.  Anyway, at least Suzi Perry is gone.

Blasphemy. The line "Ooh there's a problem there" will go down in F1 folklore and be immortalised forever.  In all seriousness though, I like Allen too, but I'd prefer to have him as the commentator than the pit lane reporter. He's got a great voice for commentary. Plus he wins on pure nostalgia points for me. It'll be weird not hearing his voice accompanied by the sound of V10 (and V8 too, but I more associate him with V10 because that's when I first started watching).

Martin Whitmarsh as a pundit? I know tis the season to be jolly, but how much have you drunk?

The one good thing about this piece of news is ITV might actually make Sky look unbiased and neutral.  And yeah, the less said about mid race ad breaks the better. Spa '05 was one that stuck particularly vividly in my mind. In one ad break ITV managed to miss Fisichella's big accident and most of the safety car period which would go on to affect the rest of the race. Great race btw, no thanks to ITV's incompetence.

Probably the first guy in the history of anything to simultaneously be the best in stats' titled "most wins" and "highest place without a win". My brain hurts.  Anyway, congratulations Prawn. Deserved winner :p

Of course ;) I'm not going to add up everyone's score but I feel fairly sure we got 2nd in the team's championship. So we didn't do too bad :p   Unfortunatly I think I saw someone say here that Lee has left Codies or something, so it doesn't look like the top 3 teams will be getting a prize anymore :(

Grosjean Got to get a 30+ point swing over Prawn this weekend to win, and also quite heavily out score afrodude and AMS. So I've gone as risky and mixed up as I dare :P Sadly Abu Dhabi rarely likes to give us mixed up races.

If they could just replace Crofty it would fix a lot of things. The Sky pre and post race shows are unwatchable Hamilton or no Hamilton, because Johnny Herbert couldn't offer "insightful analysis" if his life depended on it. But during the race, for the most part Brundle and Kravitz aren't too bad, so without Crofty the Hamilton circle jerk would be mostly absent.  Although it's also quite obvious that Ted Kravitz has quite a big thing for Kimi. He always tries to hype up his race when in reality it's most of the time going nowhere. He also wrote in a recent article that he's around a tenth behind Vettel, and around 2-3 tenths behind Alonso. You don't need me to tell you that both those figures are very fictional.

Last time I checked the standings I was a pretty nailed on 4th position. Now somehow I'm 3 points off top, still with no individual wins.  If I end up winning this Keke Rosberg can eat his heart out.

Out of curiosity: the rules for this game say that submissions must be made before FP3 "begins". If FP3 was cancelled and in essence never "began", does that mean there would've been no deadline on submissions? :p

Read again :p   I will use the official race and qualifying results published by the FIA. Any disqualifications or penalties will be used here so for instance, if you chose Nico Hulkenberg to finish 9th, he did but then got a disqualification then you would not score points for him. It is the same situation in Qualifying, it is the starting grid, not the "over the line" results My bad.  Qualifying: 1. Hamilton 2. Rosberg 3. Massa Race: 1. Hamilton 2. Rosberg 3. Bottas 4. Vettel 5. Massa 6. Ricciardo 7. Raikkonen 8. Kvyat 9. Perez 10. Verstappen
