Hope I can get an answer about this, I pre-ordered Dirt 4 through Humble Bundle (I get 10% off for being a monthly subscriber). But, I didn't get a steam key it just says it will be ready for download when it releases. Will I still get the pre-order perks if I didn't buy directly through Steam?
-
So confirmed Steam users in the US won't get it till the 9th? Physical copies only?
-
I'm in America and Steam is still showing the 9th..

Back in 2007 I spent a good 10 hours making an Amon Amarth Porsche. I don't know if it's different nowadays in the series, but everything had to be made by picking geometric shapes and manipulating them. It took forever! Turned out pretty good, but I'd never go through that again.

You could get a cheap USB gamepad and make some kind of lever mechanism which depresses one of the buttons (or make a custom one using a micro switch and soldering that to one of the existing buttons of the gamepad). You would basically be using that gamepad as the brains of the handbrake, so you wouldn't need to program anything, the PC would just see the gamepad, so everything should work just fine. That would require some craftsmanship though :D I wanted to do something like this, just haven't gotten around to do it. It's H-shifter in the video. With a handbrake you would be using just one button instead of many and the mechanism would be a bit different, but the principle remains the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEJT4V1UzZ4 Before I sold my Obutto/Triple screen setup I used my TH8 as my handbrake for RBR (before DR came out). It worked great! But I gave up on sim racing for awhile because there seemed to be no rally simulator ever coming out again and circuit racing just doesn't do it for me anymore like it used to. Then Dirt Rally came out of absolutely nowhere, luckily I saved my Clubsport wheel/pedals and a basic wheel stand just in case. Rally sim + wheel setup is just the absolute best. I can't believe @RallyDriven just now got one! I have seen you posting here for a long time. Btw I now use a button for handbrake, it takes a little to get used to but you'll get it!

@KickUp How has tarmac handling been improved for D4 simulation handling? In Dirt Rally the best way to describe the feel, not being a professional rally driver, is that you were on inters or gravel tires and suspension in DR. Has that been improved so it's more grippy, but also more snappy when you push it too far?

I was a little disappointed at first announcement that they are ditching real world stages. The stages in DR are by far the best stages in a rally game, ever. That being said, the effort/time to create them must be insane. Even if you did get 5-6 new stages as DLC, how long till you memorize every corner like most of us did who played Rally for hundreds of hours? That's not what rally is about, hotlapping is for circuit racing. I'm really excited about doing online/league stuff where every person is racing on pure pace notes and balls, not because they have run the stage 500 times. This tech is really exciting stuff for rally fans! I can't wait to try the new handling model with better braking and not soaring into the heavens off jumps. Dirt Rally felt pretty amazing, but those 2 areas did need work and I'm glad they addressed it. I can't wait!! Thank you devs! @KickUp Will Leagues function through the website like DR does? Any insight on how stages creation will work for a league event?

So the track creator is very cool and will definitely help with the game staying alive longer. But.. So we aren't getting hand modeled stages after real life ones anymore? That paired with the pacenotes being recorded in real-time on a motion chassis was the best thing Dirt Rally did. I hope it's not going back to fake stages with cued/robotic pace notes, at least for the non-track creator stages.

Don't get to excited! Since 2009 that they first announced the game. When AND IF it comes out it will be totally outdated. It's a shame unfortunatelly Yeah I checked out the beta, extremely bare bones and already looks/sounds very outdated.

Hahaha, look who's back! https://www.reddit.com/r/dirtgame/comments/4ffcij/dirt_rally_from_fake_simulator_to_a_glamour_hell/

I made like 30 attempts in the Polo at Kontijarvi doing suicide runs and didn't have one blowout from landing jumps.

Best. Package. Ever! I nominate @tbtstt to recieve a promo copy. Come on. THIS IS THE NEW BEST POST EVER. Yeah I agree, this poor guy has been watching videos of us playing and talking about it forever, never being able to play it himself! Hook him up!

I have to agree, in my other thread when I was trying to set a top 50 time at Finland in the Focus I was getting punctures like crazy. I wasn't landing in ditches and I did slow for the bigger jumps, it was really aggravating and seemed pretty random. I had better runs that would have got me an even better time, but suffered from punctures and had to quit/restart many times. You should get punctures when you land in ditches, sideswipe rocks or walls, but just landing bigger jumps shouldn't do it. You see struts get pushed through the body way more than you do tires blow from landings in WRC.

Thank you! Yeah I'm only seeing Sweden as well.

I have to catch up on this year's WRC. I know that some Red Bull site hosts the reviews for free but I can't seem to find it. Can someone link me to Monte Carlo and Sweden review videos?

Yeah I hear ya, while I'm not fast enough to get a top 15 couple nights ago I was running my league rally and set by far a new PB on Hämelahti which was close to top 100. This was when the league was still broken with basically no repairs and the car was probably in about 70% condition or so. When I checked the leaderboards I looked up full stats and the top 4 guys were well over a minute faster than Porkhammer who was ranked 5th... Yeah I don't think so. Good to hear it's getting worked on though! Here's the run, I've lost interest in career/money so I think I'm going to start hot lapping try and set some top 100 or top 50 times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxOY4wyzHC0

Nice find! The 80's SUV's might be another hint. :)

It was just supposed to be a funny post, but deep down I think we all feel that way. Couple new cars, cool, but we already have a great selection of iconic rally cars past and present. Gravel Pikes Peak, also cool, but it will get old just as fast as the desolate PP we have now. It's a good selling point but after you run it a couple dozen times the novelty wears off. The fact of the matter is, the longevity of a rally game/sim is great stages, and a lot of them. I know making stages to the quality which we have has never been done before, and I know it's expensive and time consuming. But, I think DR has been a success and I think that 90% of the user base would have no problem paying for new stages, whether that be additions to current countries or new countries being added. If it was too hard/expensive to go to New Zealand or Australia stuff like that, I would gladly pay for new Welsh stages, German vineyards, more Monte or Finnish stages...you get the point. New cars are fun yes, but when you run the same stage 300 million times over it will get old. This seems like a rant, it is and isn't. I have 250 hours almost clocked why I am so desperate for new stages. The groundwork is there, great cars, graphics, sounds and physics (well tarmac needs work), but desperately need more content. I love having 6-7 min stages, but when you only get 2 per country then it's split up and reversed a bunch of times it starts to get old. I have definitely got my moneys worth out of Dirt Rally, it got me back into sim racing after quitting never thinking there would be a successor to RBR and growing tired of circuit racing. Why I am so ready for DLC, I say bring it on and I'm usually against DLC. Dirt Rally really needs it though.

I'm going to sum up my thoughts about the upcoming announcement in pictures New liveries: Rallycross tracks: Another Quattro S1 E2 22B 4C 123: A slightly different Subaru to what we already have: New UI Rally school (who the hell needs it here?!) Revamped TV style replay system: NEW COUNTRIES AND STAGES:

Yes please, this rallycross talk is killing me. But in all honestly I don't think they are going to give us much to gossip about for a bit. They are 110% working towards console release, which is exciting. I can see that bringing in a lot of money and possibilities of big DLC or improvements, at least I hope. I want 2016 to be like 2015 Dirt Rally. Big updates every other month or so, but I would pay for it this time! I just hope the stage designers/artists aren't on vacation and are working on a surprise update for us while they work towards console release. ;)

real life 2020 FIA World Rally Championship
griev0r replied to Fedemaisonnave's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
VW had Ogier and Mikkelsen as test drivers for the whole year 2012. After fighting for the title with Citroen, Ogier basically took a year off, competing only in a few events in WRC2 for Skoda. Ogier was engaged in a full wrc2 campaign missing only New Zealand ;) Yes but they tested in EVERY RALLY after the WRC events with the polo, and there were extensive test weeks I remember watching the WRC reviews the year he was driving for Skoda, and he was pushing into WRC times in a S2000 car constantly. Def not my favorite driver, but can't deny his talent. He had an insane high speed crash in the Skoda if I'm not mistaken that year also, can't find the video. Kris Meeke is my boi, but he isn't doing a full season as far as I know which sucks. So this year, I'd love to see Latvalla do better. Love that guy but he seems to have the worst luck. -
Hate to be the negative nancy of the gossip but I personally really hope its not a car or livery. We have a great selection of some of the best rally cars of all time already, and modders can do any livery for PC users. I hope it's something that changes gameplay/feature of the game, or new location/stages. Anything other than that I can't really get too excited about. If we got 1 new long stage for every location, or New Zealand or something then yes I would be ecstatic.. but a car or livery, no. The car roster is already fantastic and modders make liveries 2 days after a new car is released. I don't think I'm alone when I say I truly hope this is plans for new rally locations and stages, or in the very least plans to expand on the core game like adding proper multiplayer to rally or something. I just can't get excited about another Subaru or a livery.

Holy crap those flat out sections @ 7:40 and 8:49, balls of STEEL. And yes, beautiful stage!
-
That would be cool but I hope not, doesn't add anything to the actual game.
-
We're still running our rally, after 50-60 minutes of driving with basically no repairs it's pretty tough. Kinda cool I like the attrition thing sometimes, but for every event for months is a long time.
