Lee, again, thank you for all you have done helping to bring us the rally sim we have been waiting for for 10 years. I can't thank you enough. I hope you stick around and continue to play DR, and if you ever want a good league to race in we have a great one at CMS. Everyone is welcome to join! http://cmsracing.com/champion/forums/press-rallysport-cms-rally-league-68/cms-dirt-rally-championship-season-1-a-27550/

Sad to hear, you have been the leader of this community and have definitely helped shape what Dirt Rally has become so far. Which for someone who had given up on sim racing, Dirt Rally has brought me back I never expected something like this to come out of nowhere. Best of luck in the future, Lee.

I'd wager about v2 models of the current Rally cars, as mentioned in the roadbook. The Impreza is also getting a v2 sound update, which would be big to Jon, though you'd expect @soundfx to be involved in that chain. Or a v2 handling update taking in the lessons from Pikes Peak and Germany into the existing cars. It's not the sound he's happy with as I'm still working on it. ;) Good news, I hope he's referring to the V2 physics update for all rally cars. Can't wait for that, keeping fingers crossed we'll get it with the PVP update but it's probably coming with Finland if we're being realistic. Either way, it's good to know the simulation team is still hard at work on the physics! It's already a great start but does feel like it needs some tweaking to grip/tire feel, if they nail that and continue to develop/release content like cars and stages we will have the most epic rally sim ever on our hands. I have a soft spot in my heart for RBR as I played it competitively for nearly a decade, but it's time to move on. Dirt Rally is the future!

Can't wait till the RallyX updates are done. With the teases of changes made to the stages of Finland, possible physics updates for the rally cars, and just it being friggen Finland I can't wait! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrCEhRNgGHY

Staggered starts return from DiRT 2 and 3? That'll be awesome. That would be amazing if they added that with the PVP pack for the rally stages so you can do real time events with your friends.

Where/when can I watch the show?
-
How so? I won't be able to try it out till I get off work today.

I want to touch on the stage issue one more time. I know I've been very vocal with it but I think it's really important. So far, as far as we know for this year, we are getting Finland and Sweden. But - if they follow the same routine as all the other events that means 2 stages, cut up and reversed to make 12 all together. As I said before, I really love the fact they are doing real stages and keeping the quality high, but it is a bit deceiving to say like at launch you have so many stages when in reality you only have less than 10 unique stages. All the rest are just smaller sections of the 10km stages in normal or reversed. So realistically all we have to look forward to is 4 new stages by the end of 2015. I absolutely love DR, I have well over 100 hours in but that is the one thing that irks me. At least in RBR the stages that were the same were called like Noiker II cause it's just reversed. These all have different names but they are just sections of the same 2 stages and shorter. Now if we had 12 unique stages for each event that would be different, but it's not like that and it's not right to advertise that way. They are not unique stages, it's the same damn thing you ran but just shorter "sprint" version. Also when you think about it even the long stages at 10km are sprint versions of the real ones. I say these things with absolute passion for DR, it brought me back to sim racing after 2 years of giving it up. I just love rally, but there really has to be something done with how stages are made/handled. I don't mind the sprint version of longer stages, but when you say you have 12 stages per event that's just plain lying. It's the same stage just cut up and/or reversed. I'd pay for DLC stages, events, anything. But as far as we know what Codies has told us we get Finland and Sweden by the end of the year and that is 4 stages. There is no DLC planned at this point, and no modding support for the talented community to create stages. That is what creates a long-lasting game. Look at RBR, its been 11 YEARS and people still love it. It's cause the modding community made new stages, cars, etc. The new announcement with the FIA Rallycross has me worried as well. It reminds me of pro-gaming of recent years, how Starcraft II was the biggest pro game for awhile, than League of Legends and DotA 2 stole its thunder. It's simpler, easier, better for the masses to get into. People want easy cheap thrills and I get that, but I really hope that Codies doesn't take a left turn and concentrate on WRX content instead of working on what this sim REALLY needs, is much more stages.

Well, they did say that they were working on some fixes/features a lot of people wanted which is cool, I'm just mainly bummed of the lack of new stages. They pretty much confirmed we won't get any additional stages for current events like Wales, and have to wait till September for Finland which if they follow current routine will be 2 longer stages split up and reversed to make up 12. I do appreciate they are going for quality over content, and it definitely shows cause these are by far the best stages ever produced in any rally game, but it seems all we have to look forward to the end of the year is Finland and Sweden 2 long stages split up and reversed. I can't wait for Finland as it's my favorite rally by far, just I guess venting a bit. The stages and the unknown and relying on your codriver is the essence of rally, and anyone who puts some real time into DR just ends up memorizing the stages. It's still a ton of fun, the current roster of cars is already great and they all feel different, but just really need more stages IMO.

Whoever is in charge for releasing teaser content for Milestone should be dragged through the ringer, its just so bad. Maybe it wouldn't look that bad if it wasn't all from the 3rd person cam, which no real sim fan even uses. Not to mention the obvious disgusting sounds and how the car is rotating on the center axis and looks completely unnatural. If you've ever followed pre-release of their games prior they always do this, 3rd person cams and disclaimers like "Physics not implemented" or "Graphics and sounds not final", then it releases and its the same exact god damn trash you saw in the trailers. I've been tricked by my love of WRC for buying the last few of their titles, but I will not again. They produce trash year after year, their stages are terrible, graphics very generic, sounds are abysmal, controller support non existent, post release support non existent, and run of the mill physics that don't know if it wants to be sim or arcade and just feel wrong in general. All which leads to a shit game, year after year. They do not learn from criticism, obviously. WRC 5 looks just as bad if not worse so.... All aboard the Dirt Rally train!

So is there no new stages planned till September after the RX release?
-
I guess I'm the only one not that excited about this announcement. If it's like it seems and they get the WRX license, that obviously means a lot more Rallycross than they probably had planned before. I know it's a small team and they are doing the best they can but that will obviously cut into the development of the actual rally side of it adding events/stages/features that most of us probably bought the game for. I personally am not into Rallycross but a massive rally fan. I got tired of circuit racing after over a decade of doing and quit sim racing and sold all my stuff cause a couple years ago it looked like we were never going to get another rally sim at that point. The only sim I actually enjoyed still was RBR but I got tired of it after years and years then this came out of nowhere. I just hope the focus is still mainly on rally and not trying to jam in just as much Rallycross content.

How can Milestone STILL keep F'ing up so bad after so many years and attempts? Physics look PATHETIC, graphics are ugly, and sounds are terrible. And dat flamethrower backfire y0, so bad...
-
I find "rally" in rallycross, so yeaaa.. I understand that, but it's completely different. The main thing is they just use similar cars. No co driver, closed circuits you do multiple laps on with other opponents, it's closer to F1 than it is Rally.
-
God I hope it's not a Rallycross announcement... fingers crossed for something actually to do with the title of the game... Rally.
-
The DiRT Rally cover is so much sicker.
-
Good god those both look friggen horrible. I can hardly tell a difference between WRC4, WRC5, and SLRE. Same ugly graphics, electronic engine sounds, and disconnected crappy physics. Thank sweet baby jesus for Dirt Rally.
-
I have zero faith in SLRE, it's made by Milestone. I played their WRC 2-4 games and they are horrid. Terrible stages with no character and a hairpin every 3 seconds, wide/short stages, generic/arcadey as hell car handling, terrible wheel/pedal support/ffb, ugly graphics, and abysmal sound. They had 4 takes with the WRC license and failed miserably everytime. From what I've seen of the "gameplay" videos it looks almost identical to past WRC titles. Says "work in progress, physics not implemented" LOL, they did the same shit with the WRC games and then it looked, sounded and played just like the horrible trailers showcased a couple months prior. Physics not implemented, a couple months till release. Lelzzz Anyways, this is a thread about DiRT Rally, a game/sim that has brought me back to sim racing after a 2 year break and totally changed my view on Codemasters. CM are heading in the absolute right direction with DR and I couldn't be happier about that, I have dreamed of a new rally sim like this for a long, long time. Screw Milestone who has done nothing but F us over time and time again, and WRC 5 made by a bunch of hacks that haven't produced anything other than 3$ bargain bin crapfest titles. I'm 100% behind DiRT Rally. They are listening to the community and making changes based on the consumer base feedback, which is fantastic. Bring on the FFB overhaul, new stages/content! Release the krakken!!!
