In other random news, I found out my brother has the original DiRT on his PS3 he doesn't use, which my wheel conveniently works with. Now I can finally experience it since I couldn't get it to work on my PC.

I'd recommend PCSX2 for an emulator. You can bump up to 1080 and get some nice AA going.

How about GT Sport? I had a busy week, wanted to try it today and what did I found? Servers are down till the release, game won't save in offline mode, no singleplayer carreer mode. New GT is basically "dead on arrival" for me. https://youtu.be/S0UvJZmGTsk?t=24s Back to DiRT Rally and DiRT 4. Wow, Will is magic. His glasses just vanished.

I've seen about 5 of their videos, 3 of which involved people slamming into things because they're idiots, and decided not to watch any more. I also really hate the "I'm going to film something on my smartphone and upload it to a "professional" YouTube page."

Depending on the camera, altitude, and speed, you can actually get a surface fairly close to laser scanning. Photogrammetry works pretty well. The downside is at best you'd have to do it on a cloudy overcast day to not get any big shadows for dynamic lighting in game.

That is excellent reference, thank you! Will be very useful on Will be very useful on... what? What will it be useful on Urgaffel? You can't just not finish a sentence dammit!

@tbtsttThis is my favorite shot.

What's to mess with?

Again I haven't played much, but I do find it interesting that the triple screen support is actually kind of funky. Much like AC you set up all your monitor parameters, except that it doesn't seem to change the FOV. There's also a really weird thing with clouds I noticed on California Highway, they act like they're forward facing sprites and when they transition from one monitor to another you can see them spin around in a fairly goofy way. But hey, I was right about the AI, they're not great. I'll have to browse the SMS forums for bugs, but most people complained about the AI and said they were going back to AC... because their AI is brilliant. It is true, AC AI have improved a lot in recent months; not rF2 level but, probably among some of the better AI in racing Sim's although, AMS recent updates seem very good as well. The reports I hear about AI along every sim racing front is that they all suck. AC's AI was broken garbage for what, 3 years? Congrats, they finally made it not broken garbage, aren't they the best dev team in the world?

So I just tried PCars 2 for the first time, and man, what a blast. Seriously. First off, the presentation is miles ahead of the original, everything was autodetected and worked out the gate (minus my separate pedals which were malfunctioning), and oh my god, proper triple screen support. Not just "Oh, it technically works," but full proper support. The FFB out the gate actually felt really nice if a bit heavy. I tried the KTM X-Bow around Laguna Seca, and I sure as hell enjoyed myself. I haven't enjoyed myself in AC since... well pretty much ever. The optimization is also pretty damn great, running triple screens (5760x1080) maxed out (Minus motion blur + AA) with a full field on a 960 got me about 35-40FPS. And this card is notoriously "underpowered" You single screener guys could easily get triple digits. Honestly, I'm extremely impressed by what they've pulled off. I only did a few laps so can't quite account for AI, but hot damn, even just hotlapping on my own seems like it'll be fun. Oh, and the sound, it's awesome. True proper surround support, not AC's cheap terrible directional sounds or DiRT's (Though the sounds are QUITE good) limited soundstage. It really sounded like I had a beast behind me, and all the AI cars swarming around. And I haven't even really tweaked any settings yet. I know some of you guys are hesitant because of SMS and Ian, but just give it a quick try and hop in to a quick event. Realistic? Undetermined as of yet, but initial gut instincts says "Yes" and the smiles and strange howling laughter are gonna keep me playing.

After years of neglect AI is starting to get some proper attention and matters to games trying to be more realistic. Hopefully using AI as mobile chicanes for a gameplay style of bashing to the front from the back in two laps will become a thing of the past and games will be judged on how human like the AI is - after all that is what the science of artificial intelligence is all about! Far from perfect maybe, the AI in PC2 was shaping up well in the WMD testing prior to the release version tomorrow. I kind of want to pick up an old Xbox and the original Forza. Maybe it's because I was a kid and didn't know much, but the physics and AI I found to be more than adequate. Didn't randomly slam the brakes or drive off the road all the time, which the new "drivatars" do. In other news, FM7 is apparently shaping up rather poorly, which is quite disappointing. Not sure where/how/when/why they seemingly just started going way off track.

Let's see how the RallyX turns out in PC2 first but, also keeping in mind IB was tipping back a few in the interview process. In theory though, yeah - I think some competition in Rally would be a very good thing for Rally fans. I pre-ordered PCars 2 since the reviews seem genuinely good so far, and Ian has taken a huge back seat from the way he used to behave. So I'm actually fairly looking forward to it. All I know is I'm never giving another dime to those asshats at Kunos. how you feel about wrc makers is the exact same for me and pcars crew.if you only knew the **** they pulled you wouldn't buy their games.they may seem to have changed but thats the media for you.absolute ******* I know a lot of shit they said, but again, Ian seems to have turned around (and he was the main issue) otherwise I would refuse to buy PCars 2. Ian at least seems like he's working on customer relations, whereas the guys at Kunos, all of them especially "Lord Kunos," constantly continue to barrage, insult, and ban people for criticizing obvious flaws in their substandard game. I got banned for saying that Forza looks better, and called a conspiracy theorist because I thought there was a smidge of understeer. I'm never giving them another dime, but plenty of people (I think even you) keep buying their product which I don't find all that compelling. I pre-ordered PCars 2 since the reviews seem genuinely good so far, and Ian has taken a huge back seat from the way he used to behave. So I'm actually fairly looking forward to it. All I know is I'm never giving another dime to those asshats at Kunos. Yeah, I have it pre-loading now too; really curious to see how it plays compared to PC1. It should be great in VR and I look forward to testing the Rx stuff. Honestly, I can tell PCars isn't the most realistic, but I find myself having the most fun in it. And it doesn't look terrible. There's something about the other sims I find so boring, and I get burnt out on DR's limited Greek stages. The only reason I wasn't going to buy PCars 2 was Ian Bell, but he seems to have turned around/toned down a bit. Its the opposite for me, PC1 lacks a certain visceral quality that I get with AC / AMS / rF2; it's a feeling of being very connected to the car, acutely attuned to the behavior, tires, grip levels, etc. With PC1, I just didn't get that same satisfaction of being able to balance the car on the edge, sensing the threshold of grip. With PC2, SMS claim to have addressed such issues but, we'll see. I have no doubt it will look good and it seems the audio has improved but, the AI and overall handling and FFB are my bigger concerns going in. You're concerned about AI in a PC racing sim? Here's a hint, it'll be terrible like every other game. I just liked PCars because it didn't look like crap, it actually ran smoother (but at a lower framerate) than AC, and there's much more available options, as well as AI that actually was better than AC's but still not great. Once you get the FFB set up properly it's actually pretty good, but you can still feel the limits of the game engine. I'm still not sure where the "connection" to the road in AC is, I've certainly never found it. I have found however that almost every car feels exactly the same in terms of FFB. And doing hot laps in a 2015 sim that looks like something from 2001 because the AI sucks isn't particularly thrilling. The best thing about AC is the proper triple screen support, but that only goes so far.

What is this? A funeral service? "And long shall the memory of the DiRTy Gossip thread remain here forevermore in our hearts, let us not mourn of it's passing, but cry tears of joy and laughter at all the fun times we had along the way. The teasings of DiRT Rally, the Subaraudi S1E22bbWRCX, Helicopters, water splashes, Kebabs and pizzas, along with page 634. We lost a few giants along the way, especially @justbiglee but we braced these blows and our hearts grew stronger from the experience. We will heretofore live our lives to the fullest with the memories that we all share linking us together as our dear friend shuffles off this mortal coil. ..Hit play Bob." https://youtu.be/7oday_Fc-Gc "Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, and DiRT to DiRT." Damn, wish I'd thought of that. Instead I'll just make the funeral procession https://youtu.be/-luW1WxsqAM

Other places where there are logs are Wales, Sweden and Michigan but I'd go with Dirtfish They did mention before that it's a random spawn. So it might or might not be there.

I feel like your English has been getting worse as time goes on. But that's another story. When the majority of people are having issues and it's either unknown or unclear whether or not my wheel will work, much less my peripherals, that's called a $40 crapshoot. It's got nothing to do with past titles (except they're also broken.) With wheels like the ever popular Logitech G-series and the TM brand being either completely broken, wrong, or unusable I'm not buying into it with my oft skipped Fanatec GT2 with separate peripherals. That's lunacy. That doesn't even factor in whether or not it'll function properly/smoothly on my PC given all the optimization issues about 50% of the userbase has. It also doesn't take in the varying reviews that people are giving when it does work. You say it's great, @Rallycameraman says it's garbage and there's people in between that say the FFB is terrible. And you basically stated you HAD to spend 8 hours to get it to feel right. I'm not doing that. I almost immediately refunded Dirt 4 because it didn't initially support my wheel until I figured out their goofy menu system. If Steam had a reasonable refund policy or the Devs had a history of fixing **** and making it work, yeah, I'd buy into it, but neither of those is true and I'm not keen on losing out on my money. It's got nothing to do with fanboy or not, but your saying I should buy it solely based on your experience from the minority of the userbase. Although there is credit due to "These guys have proven themselves incompetent more than a few times, and it's unlikely to change." I'll tell you a little secret, I'll buy a game that A. Works, and B. I enjoy. WRC7 so far is sketchy at best on both fronts. If you don't want to buy the game, just don't buy it. No need to start an argument/rant about it. Dgeesi0 likes the game, so what? It's not like he's demanding that you buy it. And yet for some reason he seems offended that I don't. I made it clear in my first post I have no intention of buying it. And Grievor can't get his wheel to work so I have the sneaking suspicion mine won't either, so I'll just not risk it.

So the forums finally let me log back in, and 143 WRC7 DiRTy gossip comments later and I can safely say I also won't be picking up this dumpster fire. Sorry @dgeesi0 but I'm not spending 8 hours trying to figure out how to get my wheel setup to work. It's a crapshoot with this title, and I'm not even willing to spend $20 on a shady CDkey site from stolen credit cards. They've proven themselves fairly incompetent 3 years in a row now. We have a saying "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." I can only assume the "Fool me three times...." results in a "What am I? Stupid?" You guys seem to have really low standards for buying products.

You asked for it ;) https://twitter.com/dirtgame/status/904439584989356033 Audi S1 EKS RX https://twitter.com/dirtgame/status/900374280067624962 This one you might have NOT wanted to see but it could actually be fun to have such modes in DiRTFish since the handling is good there And in general some talking about a patch coming in the next few weeks Oh and forgot this one: https://twitter.com/dirtgame/status/902852683928936448 Maybe a hint to a tropical location DLC? No idea, but true DiRTy Gossipers never stop B) Maybe they'll just retexture places for fall time. Always wanted that in a game, follow the real world seasons.

I watched the first season and was, for the most part, very disappointed. I hope season 2 will be an improvement, the inclusion of a 037 is a step in the right direction! Yeah, GT lost some of the TG flair, it really felt a bit americanized, but maybe they've learned for season 2. Also watched the new TG, which also wasn't as good as the old, but they seem to learn and focus more on Rory and Chris (H. not Evans), who might really make TG their own now. What I really miss are those specials though. Anyone seen the TG North Pole, Patagonia, Birma, River Nile or Botswana Specials ? Those were the days I really wish I knew what you guys meant by "Americanized" considering Clarkson and the gang are all the scriptwriters and the Americans also hate the "American" stuff. GT just feels way too scripted. The part James did on the Ford GT40 was cool.... which Tbsttstttststtststtsts mentioned. So I'll just stop talking.

I can't understand the French, but where the hell is that stage supposed to be? A volcano? Weird landscape to have massive boulders like that all over and cliff faces, but only light gravel. It's El Cóndor-Copina in Argentina and it's spot on. I've driven it many times in a road car. And that guy that can't drive straight is actually a good omen for the new physics model. That's exactly what happens to my buddies when they come over and try DiRT Rally. Ehh, It just looks like it has a bunch of big random (probably repeated) boulders everywhere. Sure I haven't been there, but in the pictures it looks more like a normal mountain. I mean, it's still a bit crazy, but not like in the game. https://youtu.be/Cifepvj_9jE I think what really gets me is in game there just "happens" to be a road exactly wide enough through the two essential cliff faces down the descent. I don't doubt cliffs or big boulders but a miraculous solid wall of clearly not excavated rock on both sides? Just weird looking. That fan footage looks like it's from the latter parts of the stage. The WRC games have always focused on the ambiance from the first half of the stage where the boulders and suspension bridges are: Hmm. It's not terrible, but IRL the road does look more carved and excavated with the dirt mounds and low stone walls that seem absent from the game. Also, most of the cliffs are only on the uphill side and not both, and not usually near the scale shown in the game. And based off that Wales picture, they have an issue with scale.
