DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I was there back in April, this is an awesome place to see, like another planet.   Like if you made the sky purple it'd be in Star Trek? I live in a fairly dusty place, and as much fun as it is to get DiRTy, I hate the feeling of being coated with dirt. I'd want immediate access to a shower and change of clothes.

I can mention the Toyota S1E22B WRC to start an argument if you want? I mean, you could, but I don't know anything about the Toyota S1E22B WRC STI Superleggera SS  for it to make any difference to me.

I would heavily disagree. I played DR and D4 at launch using standard controller schemes on an Xbox pad, and DR plays way better than 4. I'm not sure what happened with 4. Hell, at this point, at least it's conversation. The sad thing is, checking the forums used to be the highlight of my day, and now I don't even have that. Think it's time to break out the Simon and Garfunkel. https://youtu.be/4zLfCnGVeL4

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

That's what I thought it would do as well. I'm disappointed that the final product boils down to just "forest section" or "open section" with a handful of road tiles. That's why I bring up the Xpand Rally method, with today's tech it could be possible to make a map big enough and with a complex enough road network that simply blocking off various junctions to make stages may be good enough. The repeating tiles in Your Stage feels wrong because you're not actually driving though the same location multiple times, but if you drive through a premade map, the repetition might feel more natural since you know you're driving through an actual location (if that makes sense).  Maybe there could even be premade sections scattered around with procedural roads inbetween? Also, if the stages are made by blocking specific junctions, it would be easy to incorporate an actual stage creator, where people can make their own route through the map. Well if they make specific junction junctions like towns, they could have the procedural generation take place in between while using the pre made streets of the town. There's a lot of ways to do it, but unfortunately the method they chose is the most repetitive.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

... I'm really confused... does Wales have giant redwood forests or are they going for the Burnout Paradise toy car thing? I still think YourStage is definately the right direction. Don't go back to just replicate stages from real life. The locations are iconic, not all the stages and not knowing the stage is part of rallying. CM should instead refine YourStage to a point, where you don't feel so much as of now, that you drive a generated stage. Maybe they should go more procedural and away from the "Tiles" concept. Just starting with a location, without any roads and lay in the roads completely dynamic. Yourstage can alreay vary in height, same tiles can be level, uphill or downhill, just how the stage needs it. So you could start with much smaller pieces of surface, like 1m of road and mold them together dynamically up and down. Once the road is laid into the environment, a second generation process could start to create the roadside. Dynamically placing fences, houses, puddles, spectators, guardrails, significant trees, bushes, logpiles, trucks, cars, etc.   It already does this at some places, but the size of the tiles is to big, so they feel repetitive. Right now it's probably easier for the algorithm to find a road as it has a subset of tiles that all fit together in a believable way and can just pick one at random.  If much smaller roadpieces all fit together, they can no longer be put together randomly, as it would end up in a super-messy spaghetti-road, so refining such a believable road-construction-algorithm is probably the difficult part here I was initially thinking that they would make the actual locations a permanent thing, then just have the procedural generation lay a road down on the pre made terrain. I feel like you'd have more control over that as well. You could potentially even make checkpoints that the road hits along the way, so you could go city, hills, forest. Instead they went with extremely repetitive tiles. You could potentially complain that the scenery never changes, but it also never changes with handmade tracks either, so it doesn't matter.

Hey, where's your wildly speculative spirit? This thread has been down on the tin-foil hat conspiracy energy lately, we'll take anything we can get. Unfortunately, the color grading, models, lighting, and background trees all suggest DR. I mean, we could tin foil hat it into something.... but... the energy and charisma just isn't there.

I don't know, I think the Fins are just good at rallying because they start at like 6 because they have nothing better to do. Don't really think it's an in born talent.

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: actual gasp. Don't go breaking my heart now @KickUp.... Well... if they do the Your Stage thing it's possible. They could just do some scouting trips, but the locals might not even like that. And I thought the locals were the problem. Edit* Unless of course we take care of the locals.... You wants we should whack em?

I could talk about how our shop is almost ready to go into production for UAVs, which are kind of like horizontal helicopters.

The problem is that it could be far deeper rooted than just ticking an "Allow this option" box.

An exclusive license deal with Polyphony perhaps? Be interesting to see what makes it into GT Sport. Somehow I don't believe that, though they are Japanese, so it could be true. Think Forza 6 and H3 had to skip on VW altogether for some reason. Real shame, and it's weird that they won't license out the street cars. Even AC has a few. I always liked the MR2, but I don't want to buy an Xbone just for Forza when my wheel won't work with it. Really hope they manage to make the Win10 version actually work. Figures. And it's the worst possible outcome. Selling the pre-order bonus is always bullshit. Not sure what you paid for your copy and can't remember what the pre-order price was, but the 2 packs only cost $5 total, not exactly braking the bank, and if  you didn't pay the retail price anyhow, possibly you are still getting the base+DLC for less than the initial pre-order.  Not trying to argue at all, I know DLC is somehow taboo around here, but I don't think its that big of a deal.   Maybe he is coming from a different perspective, maybe he is mad because he wanted the pre-order car, so he bought the game in advnace without waiting for reviews, and is now left disappointed. Would CM have told us that the car will be there as DLC after release he may have ended up not buying the game, but if he liked it he might not mind paying a little extra to get the car. Preorder just seemed to be a way to secure sales then, if the DLC is available for everyone now, without properly communicating that prior to release. I'm sure I can find the direct quote from @kickup somewhere in the gossip, but paraphrasingly he said "because of the suits, preorder was the only way to get the car into the game" Partly true there too. Before launch I asked Kickup if it would ever become available, hopefully for free. He didn't say free, and I'm pretty sure he just said it might happen. So, in lieu of any confirmation I did pre-order a few hours before release, and everyone is fairly disappointed in the current handling. I can't even update my game without uninstalling something else.

But if I didn't, it'd still be $60 and then the additional 5 for something they gave away free. The game is still $60, and the DLC is still 5. So to get something I didn't get for free from pre-order I'd have to pay more. I hate that shit. The only thing worse is I'm playing through the Mass Effect trilogy (barring Andromeda) and ME2 has full on story based $10 DLC missions that actually effect the third game. Apparently the third game opens on Shepard being on trial for killing 300,000 Batarians which is ONLY in DLC that I'm not buying.

@tbtsttI've found that if the Gossip thread is dying down, if you mention any amount of politics (especially when referencing a movie) gets it back up in a stir fairly quick. Honestly, the most fun comes from being off topic, hence the kebab pizza.

We might have to start giving out clues if you guys don't hurry up. Yeah but keep it subtle. Always.  Meh, I hope it's an easter egg where I can be a pizza delivery man with a Lancia Delta S4 Super Special Stage Unlocked! We might have to start giving out clues if you guys don't hurry up. Has anyone even tried looking for it? I don't play it so won't find it.  I'd rather find £54.99 Awwww, that's harsh. :'(

So, I was going to post a bagpipe video, but A. I couldn't find a good one, and B. I think it's for some reason more popular in America. I guess also C. The only one I like is Amazing Grace, which as far as I know is basically a pretty much purely American song. I don't know why exactly Scottish Bagpipes are so popular at American funerals, maybe it's just because the sound that bloated goat is making is the same sound in our hearts. And on that note: https://youtu.be/7oday_Fc-Gc

Aaah, the old Colin McRae 2.0 interface, its a thing of classic beauty and a brilliant minimalist design. But Im not complaining about Dirt 4s menus, I think they are very beautiful too. I agree that some things could be easier to find though, but overall I think Codies have done a fine job with them. Though had they gone with something like CMR2.0, I certainly would not have complained, but to be honest this would have been more suited and indeed a perfect fit for Dirt Rally! I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't like it. First off, I always prefer an actual model over a car. Barring that, I like 3/4 views more. As far as information goes, I'd rather have an actual number than a bar for specs, and spelling the car name out like that spreads it too much. Seems like a lot of scrolling to see all your options. I also find solid colors rather bland, but the blue is definitely better than orange.
