    - Mills speaks about a new rally game with details being released in a couple of weeks. Some questions though. Why not mentioned DiRT or Codemasters in the post? Next to that he speaks about "new RALLY game".

With my conspiracy hat on I'd say "because he was asked to 'leak' it this way.

Without that hat, I'd guess because he is aware those details are secretive, but wasn't expecting people to make a connection between a specific chair he was sitting in and a photo a few people on a forum saw two years ago.

Must admit, I'm running the risk of getting optimistic again...
Meh, I wouldn't get your hopes up. But if they weren't doing anything I'm sure they'd shut down just like the Evo guys... I still think it's D3 remastered.
Wonder what happened to them, I was really hoping they could at least make Ego engine 2 or something.

  3. Sorry JZStudios, but I believe, with an overflow of silly games, less people are interested in arcade rally games. Things have changed over the years. Look at dirt4, who ever speaks about the arcade mode of that game? With all the news about race/rally teams having their own e-sporter, time now is right for sim racing.

I would say, bring it on.
I HIGHLY disagree. Forza Horizon is a damn good selling game, and it is not a sim. Hate to tell you this, but Assetto Corsa, rFactor, iRacing, Dirt Rally,  Project Cars, they don't hold a candle to the sales of arcade games. Let's also not forget the massive wave of people that were on the forums complaining about how Dirt Rally was too hard once it hit consoles. There's also the rather large lack of content in any of those games, only Project Cars 2 seems to have a decent amount of content.
Even Driveclub did well. A lot of people got pretty excited about the remaster of Burnout Paradise, The Crew sold well (Though I don't know why) even though it's got terrible physics. Need For Speed still sells well. The issue is that as of late Forza Horizon has been the only worthwhile arcade racer, aside from maybe some F-Zeros or something. Sims get real boring super quick, especially the PC sims.

Bringing up the arcade mode in Dirt 4 is honestly kind of dumb. How many people do you know that still play it at all?

  4. DiRT 4 had very little exposure and marketing, which I always thought was odd, combined with the fact that initial reviews were mixed at best. DiRT Rally appealed to the hardcore crowd, but anyone less inclined was turned off by it and it extremely limited amount of content, which DiRT 4 also suffered from.
So the game had low marketing, meager content and no real stages (Or in DR's case, only a handful)  and less appeal to a wider audience. The original DiRT had much more content and wasn't such a difficult game, appealing to a larger audience across more disciplines than just Rally and WRX. There's also licensing issues, and recently a lot of companies have become quite stingy with their licenses, or maybe they're just ridiculously expensive.
Think the best thing they could do is keep the main DiRT series more arcade and wide market, and make more offshoots like DR for the hardcore crowd.

Ebrand Services specialise in online brand protection https://ebrandservices.com, bigger companies often use third parties to register domains etc like that.

Although domain name registration isn't that difficult (it's part of my job lol)
A brand protection one makes sure you get similar domains aswell. So they get dirtrally2.com as the primary, but get the others aswell just so someone else can't spoof with a similar domain. Often also registering on other top domains aswell.

But it's interesting... Will it be Dirt Rally 2.0, as an hommage to the classic Colin McRae Rally 2.0?
I remember reading an article about the original DiRT when it launched. The guy was saying that leaves room for fun sequel titles.

Look for clues, look for clues. The helmet at the window has is 01, does that mean it's a new IP? ;-)
He's got a Welsh flag on his helmet. Wales confirmed. I'm not up enough on my European flags to know what the other one is.
BUT! There is also a few water bottles with green caps, and New Zealand is very green surrounded by water...
There's also a quick release F1 wheel... Oh my god... The F1 wheel, Dirt 3, Grid helmet...
Holy hell guys, I think it is GriDiRT1 2018! Featuring sound by Beyer Dynamic!

  7. In no longer related DiRT news, I just learned that the... well a head audio guy anyways from CM left late last year and went on to join forces with BeamNG, which desperately needed an audio upgrade.

I asked him what he worked on at CM, at made some comments about this video.
    https://youtu.be/i2vkpVgOfZA
"All of them. I started at CM late 2007 when GRID was going alpha. It was not in a good state sound wise, so we had 6 months (including having a baby) to get it shipable. That gave me the opportunity to identify most of the issues at CM. Bad car recordings, out of date engine synthesis, backwards implementation tools etc... so then my plan over the next 3 years was to increase those, so then led the sound design on DiRT2/3 and F1...then I took more of an overview of everything we worked on... until doing the music for F1 15/16/17 and then leaving.

We you do have the rocks hitting the wheel-arches. which is the same effect as hitting the floor. You'll obviously get a lot more of that when the wheels are slipping.

The impact system will be re-written.. I just wanted to replace the single sample we were using previously."

    Dakar 18 Gameplay

Body is 23 characters too short.

Woah, woah, woah, local split screen? In 2018? In a racing sim?
Best racing game of the century.

To be real though, local split screen is awesome, it really needs to come back. It looks good, as long as the physics aren't horrible like the Crew it really seems like something you can explore in and do at your own pace while still having a goal, unlike the Crew...
Still a bit concerned it could just be a very large very open world with not much to see though, but it's cool that you can tow out your teammates that get stuck.

  9. Yeah, that really sucks. Really got to suck to have your company close up, be bought by someone else, then close again after only 1 project.
I do kind of agree though, there is a market for arcade racers but I don't think Onrush was quite the right move. I saw some review somewhere where the guy said he couldn't tell what exactly him or his his team were doing to "win." The whole presentation was slick, but the gameplay was muddy. I didn't buy into it for various reasons, but maybe they should've remade something like Motorstorm or reignited Grid.

It was his second attempt. In one of The Hoonigans DTT episodes they talked about it
Maybe it was the first one filmed. It was a first for something. I think he did a lower speed run first.

Myself  I bought Dirt 4 last week for £19, which was more than enough for it and £19 more than Dirt Rally was ever worth.... Now what an appalling game that was.

But then that is the word here; game... In the day I was a very fortunate boy (and still am), my father owned several garages and at 17 I had full comp traders insurance, so I could drive anything I liked.....  Therefore at age 17 I used to own a Mini Cooper 1071 with an all steel engine/straight cut g/b ...... at age 18, an Avenger Tiger and Mk1 RS Mex, age 20 a Mk2 RS2000 and I raced them all, rallying them. My friends raced cars such as Audi Quattro, an ex-works Dolomite Sprint (awful!) even an ex-works Nissan and a Porsche 911.

Dirt like all other games however, is a game. One hears all this waffle about 'realism', realism is sitting in an actual car, actually racing.... If one can crash out hard and not risk death or at least a deeply broken bank balance, then it is a game..... That counts from an F1 Sim owned by an F1 team, right down to home user Xbox, PS and PC.

Once, to my consternation, I conversed with a Dirt dev and explained it was a game and required more control for the purchaser, that indeed Dirt Rally desperately required a rewind function  .... It is a single player game essentially, if one rewound it when crashing out of say a 12 minute stage @ 11.45 seconds, it would affect no ones life but that singular person's ... What do I get? "It would interfere with the integrity of the game" .... LOL, what? What integrity? It is a game man for pities sake... Talk about narcissistic self aggrandisement... I am still laughing now at that ludicrous statement.

Personally I have already pre-purchased RD2 and H4 Ultra .... Myself  I don't do Battlefield and whilst Fallout 4 was a very clever game as Fall Out 76 may well be, if I want to be deeply depressed I'll talk to my mother in law. The best any Dirt title will ever get from me however, is my pulling their stuff out of the 'remaindered' bin.

Dirt could be very good, could sell a great many more copies but somewhere it went badly wrong for them.... Dirt 2 & 3 were extremely good games but they have imo become lost since then... They have forgotten it is nothing more than a game, which people buy with their money and should therefore be able to enjoy without the interference of the dev's and their supposed 'integrity' .

Ken Block seems to be a cool dude that does what he loves.

He is average driver at best (that makes him quiet competitive on USA's rally scene, and low rank in the Europe and WRC scene).
Gymkhana is a typical american invention with all it's pros and cones. I personally am not impressed with tricks that take multiple attempts to perfect so it looks nice on camera, but I guess it might appeal to some people.

Long story short- I don't care about him TBH, but I wish he stays away from any game I would be interested in.
He practices. He rarely ever screws up on early takes. It's just a game of taking the best shot.
To ask you a question, have you ever listened to music or watched a music video? Do you dislike them because they used the best take they had and practiced beforehand?
Do you think the European rally drivers just... don't practice?

BTW, his Climbkhana video where he drifts around a corner and hits a rock pile was his first attempt. Don't act like the dude doesn't have skill.

There is a stream of one of the biggest Folkrace(poor mans rallycross) festivals in Sweden going on right now. Finals are about to begin!

You collect points by position in heats compared to time in RX.
The main thing about Folkrace is that every car is for sale for the fixed price of 850 Euro after the finals ends. If several people are interested one envelope is simply picked among the lot to decide who gets to buy it.
The price is obviously to keep costs as low as possible, but people are absolutely mental when it comes to the biggest weekends like this. There are lots of Volvos with dogboxes and engines in the 200-300BHP range. You do your own math ;)

I think there was also a rule that if someone wanted to buy the car, you had to sell it and couldn't refuze
Correct, that are the rules. You can't refuse. You can take part in the "lottery" yourself though if you want to try to keep your car.
I remember seeing that on Top Gear, but how does it work? How do you keep someone from lowballing you?
