Well, let's be serious here for a minute. What did you expect would happen? This is the gossip thread after all.KevM said:The fact that the Gossip thread is mainly SSD installations & 80's movies a fortnight after the new game dropped, is an unfortunate sign.
Im currently doing Bronfelen in a 2001 Impreza with the wrong sound, & my gaming has me smiling again after 1 stage on good ole Dirt Rally.
Whoever validated the handling in DR, needs brought back, paid the remainder of the D4 marketing budget & told to work his magic. Each Rally car in DR had the character of their real life version, bang on!
And I'll have you know that many of those movies are from the 70's.
And Kung Pow was 2001 or so.

I've liked that from the few minutes I seen it.
My HDD failed today, or shall I say don't mess with diskpart if you aren't sober. Selected wrong disk, wrong partition and wrong command, without hesitation pressed enter because some moron in Microsoft thought it's okay to make changes to HDD without a confirmation.
testdisk did it's job but i've lost the MBR part of disk. BIOS won't detect it even though it's mountable in Debian and it installed the system without a single problem.
Have to format it so I've finally got a reason to upgrade to SSD. Gonna take 2x125GB tomorrow to finally separate my Unix and Win system + data on two 1TB HDDs.
Uh, that was a hell boring/stressful friday evening.
/E: If that wouldn't be enough the reinstall and diskpart was caused by 2 BSODs and 2 F13 cause of completely stucked at D4. Not sure if my GPU isn't faling as well, but there wasn't anything prompting that way in Debian.... when it was still installed.
I've also had 4 fails of Nvidia drivers in past 3 days. Never happened to me. Gonna buy some thermal paste and clean my graphic card as well tomorrow. Hell, it will be torn apart, why not make a general cleanup.
Sorry for missing "n", i don't have that key in my old laptop :D
My options for a movie list would include Ferris Buellers Day Off, Uncle Buck, AIRPLANE!, Caddyshack, City Slickers, Blues Brothers, Fifth Element, Spaceballs, Galaxy Quest, Surfs Up, Blazing Saddles, The Naked Gun, The Naked Gun 22 1/2, The Naked Gun 33 1/3, Just about anything else with Leslie Nielson, The Marx Brothers, and Kung Pow: Enter the Fist.
The Princess Brides decent too.

I hear you, in summer the heat from the my monitor, tower and G27 wheel, plus all my rambunctious wheel inputs make Dirt Rally a very sweaty affair. I have triple screens that I dare not use on hot days, but that I should be testing out on Dirt 4 right now (though I may be asking too much of my GTX970). Being that its winter in Australia, maybe with 3 screens, a hot GPU, the wheel and my desperate attempts to keep the car on the road it will be enough to make my computer room nice and toasty?
It's the middle of summer here and my broken window faces the sunset so approximately 115% of the 40 degree heat just blows right on through. Doesn't stop me from playing with triples on my stupidly OC'd and probably undercooled 960 and 8350 with my wheel.
I hate this hell hole. There comes a certain point where fans just blow hot air at you and it really doesn't help at all. The AC vent over my door blows about 12 inches and just gets shut down immediately by the oppressive heat.
I've never looked more like Striker, and it doesn't help my drinking problem I attained after helping some poor Africans learn to play basketball.

Best part is, for like 12 hours a day it's too hot to think, which makes you tired, but then you're hot and sweaty and that's all you think about so you can't sleep.

I kind of wish (Like other games) that random mechanical failures was a difficulty option. Maybe it's just me, but I find it annoying to have it apparently break something in the time I don't have it.
It just reminds me of my car which I hate. Always fun driving along the freeway and have it just decide to stop going. Or when it used to randomly stall out and leave me stuck on the side of the road and I'd have to push it home from the other side of the city... in the middle of summer... when it's 40 C.

Well, you hire crew, while technically the sponsors hire you. So the sponsors have the power, but they could give you a few different short/long term options.SkyRex said:Some more constructive feedback:
1. This time it's almost probably a bug: Just did the monthly and 6/12 stages where declared as "fog patches" but all 6 where entirely foggy from start to finish. I do think that is not the intended behavior of "fog patches"?
2. Sponsors should have extendable contracts too. I can extend staff contracts, but I can't sponsors. I can only overwrite them with new ones or wait for them to go away. And the fact that not all are always available, means you can't personalize your livery in terms of sponsors as they are all just temporary. Is this intended? Feels like you should be able to extend the contracts.
3. Sequential shifting is waaay too slow going through the gears. You have a crash and spent an additional 2-4 sec just shifting around to get into reverse and back. It was way faster in DR, why the change?
4. The spotter in RX is sometimes weird. Like "Your 'fighting' for 6th"... "Ahh.. now you're just being mean hah?"
Or, when you lead after the 'first' lap of the race: "After all jokered, you're currently fighting for first !" ... "Yeah, no sh*t, sherlock!"
5. formention RX AI seems location related too. Hell or Loheac they're great fast and really hard, Höljes and Portugal you can gain loads of time on them. Don't ask me on Lydden, still can't drive that joker properly enough to comment on that.. that trailbreak right into a two chicane is the hardest corner in all of the RX imho, although the rest of lydden is quite easy.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm enjoying this game great times overall! Just a little nitpicking for some patch inspirations ;)

nice feedback but this also kinda highlights why we are finding it hard to agree on the handling at the moment.tarmac is generally great gravel generally isnt perfect.who is right wrong who knows ? :DP308R said:@KickUp @ChristinaMc
Yesterday I finally got a chance to play the game. I 've spend about 3 hours doing several freeride races as rallying stuff in the career. I'll add my experiences in here. I play on simulation with no aids.- Tarmac physics: while being an improvement over Dirt Rally I can't help the feeling the cars are still skittish, have no real weight and do feel floaty. I have the impression that the "back" of the car isn't really there. The feeling on gravel is great. No complaints here.
- The menus: The menu structure is not very intuative and it feels cluttered. Navigation around requires a lot of button pressing and I prefered the clean and straightforward menus from DR
- Career setup: this is great. I like the way the player gets introduced and the way the career builds up in terms of length and complexity.
- Cars: Great sound and very nice to look at. Can't complain to anything I've driven so far.
- Replays: while the mixed camera is exactly the one from DR it missed the camera movement when paused. This gives no variation in capturing screenshots. A kind of freecam would be greatly appreciated. That you can hide the replay interface and disable the co-driver during it is great.
- Graphics: Can't complain here. The lighting is great and really adds to the experience when rallying. Cars are very detailed but textures and foilage seems less impressive than DR. Still great looking.
- Landrush: Did 2 races and I simply don't want to return to it anymore. It feels completely out of place and I struggle to enjoy it.
- YourStage: I know this has been a tech you've been working on for 3 years but I have my doubts about the stages being generated. It all feels very much the same and nothing actually stands out. The handcrafted stages from DR where thrilling, had an exciting layout and some tricky technical parts. YourStage simply can't compete with those handcrafted ones. I prefer to have the stages of DR with the quantity that came with it then the general YourStage. If you have done a few stages in YourStage all the stages created afterwards seem to borrow the same set of corners, combinations and layouts. Very noticable in career! Positive part of this is that YourStage gets the player in a flow very easily. Probably I'll end up generating a specific set for each location and stick to it. Question that rose to the occasion: I wonder how stages are created when YourStage would get a landscape which was more challenging for its algorithm and how to algorithm actually learns for not using the same subset of corners?
- Overall: I won't be to severe with my judgement here since it is your first public outing for YourStage and I appreciate what you guys are trying to do with YourStage. It is to early to judge D4 but the general feeling I am left with is a positive one and most importantly I am enjoying myself a lot.
But I can feel cars weight,
And suspension now takes the load,
Of those bumps in the road,
DiRT Rally laid fresh physics down,
But now DiRT 4 takes the crown.
Dirt4 can make you go straight,
YourStage is the new kid in town,
Sometimes those stages make you frown,
Bears, Birds and Deer,
Common get along and we go grab some beer,
Totally crap at this... :D

When testing on several different notches towards the earliest side of the delivery speed, I find myself overshooting junctions and diving into bushes due to late calls on the more technical corners (coming off a fast section), and they seem to be out of sync with the delivery speed of the rest of the notes.
I understand that pacenotes have been done differently this year, so thought it was worth mentioning, in case anything can be tweaked.

Some people on Xbox were saying there was no rain on the windshield. I assume it's a bug then.SkyRex said:Anybody else sometimes got disappearing rain-droplets/effects on windscreen ? game restart fixes it again though.
Really? I think the FFB is significantly better, in the fact that I don't avoid most of the game due to it. I did notice though that my wheel no longer vibrates with engine revs, which was a neat feature in DR, but it wouldn't turn off during pause menus. Have you fiddled with the settings?Underkex said:Ok, after several days playing, with the career mode almost finished, I can give my impressions.
FFB: Big step back. At least in my DF GT the center force is too high and the suspension and little details have disappear. Don't know if is a bug or what but BIG step back from DR.
Graphics: Not so important for me, is a win-lose point. Some things are better other are a bit worse. In general I like the new look, the big thumb up is for for the new lighting system.
Physics: Again, miss and win. I love the new tarmac physics but gravel is worse than DR. You loose the rear so easily, even with 4wd, almost impossible to break at some points (slippery zones, I am talking that more than 10% or 20% of the break and you have completely lost the rear and the car control). You can powerslide but is very unrealistic, you will always lose a lot of time, even in fast medium corners. Too much grip in gravel, there is no big difference right now between gravel, snow or tarmac.
Game modes: Better than DR but neither a great aspect of the game. Your stage is good, not perfect, but good. The rest of the game is quite empty and a couple of different new localizations for YourStage would be nice.
Conclusion: In some points it seems to me like this is a follow up from vanilla DR physics, not from final version of DR. Some of the vanilla mistakes are back. RX for example is perfect now, you can feel the aero downforce, at the correct speed you cand balance the car, use the different surfaces... but in rally mode there is something wrong. I hope they improve gravel and FFB and the game will be my new favourite racing game.

So... since a lot of people are complaining about how terrible D4 looks compared to DR but they won't take comparison screenshots I decided to do so.
I seriously can not for the life of me understand why they think Dr looks better, or why they think D4 looks terrible.
This is THE worst thing I've seen on D4. I'm assuming I spawned too close to the map edge. Also, I now know with certainty that the distant terrain in DR is in fact part of the sky map.
On the other hand, you can get a sense of the scale of the "map" with this picture of the far mountains, where they look a lot less crap.
Edit* Also, it seems the dust does stick around longer than DR. I.e. it floats through the air and slowly fades where DR just sort of disappears after a while. The dust above on the left side is about 20 seconds old.
I couldn't get a good picture of it though, the heli cam seems oddly restricted to be horizontal to the road, so I can't get any good long dust trails. That was my favorite in Greece, seeing the dust trail winding through the hairpins going up the hill.

Wasn't this something someone mentioned a few months with the early press footage of the tuning menu?Rygar86 said:bogani said:
Toe-in at the front gives stability. If you want better turn in you use toe-out. The description in the tuning menu is wrong at the moment. They are aware of that :)Areyouben said:A very effective way against understeer is the toe alignment on the rear. If you put some toe-out on the rear, the rear tires will effectively point towards the outside which makes the rear a looooot looser under load. For example, if you turn left the weight will move to the right. A lot of weight gets on the rear right tire and as that tire is pointing outward it will push the entire rear of the car to the right, creating oversteer.
you can do the same on the front but inverted, using some more toe-in to have the tires point inward creating more bite on turn in. Too much of either toe-out/in will create some instability though, so don't go too far. Just a single click or 2 will do a lot.
Oh so thats the infamous incorrect tuning description? I though that was only in Dirt Rally.
Wasn't it just as simple as changing some text for it to be fixed for Dirt 4?
Also, I'm surprised that no ones asked for Larsens Biscuits or Peniston Oils for sponsors.

As far as information goes, I'd rather have an actual number than a bar for specs, and spelling the car name out like that spreads it too much. Seems like a lot of scrolling to see all your options. I also find solid colors rather bland, but the blue is definitely better than orange.
