It's totally different because it only had road courses? That's not a massive difference. Grid 1 and 2 and maybe Autosport had open road courses. It wouldn't be anything new to Grid. Otherwise Grid is primarily a road/street car semi arcade racing game. I'd say it's pretty similar to a road/street car semi arcade road course racing game. I didn't really play DriveClub so I can't exactly comment on the theme/feeling, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's not far off.

Seems like it would be pretty close to Grid, which itself got a reboot. And now they have SMS too.

Same studio. There's some engine build footage for Onrush that's actually really cool, like vegetation that grows and dies. No idea if that was actually in game, but it was cool.
Check out 18:24. The flowers dynamically "grow" and die, while the trees change colors and eventually leaves fall. As seasons change the track can start to snow and it can build up over the race. It's unlikely, but it would be really cool if Dirt 5 had that feature. I said it when I first saw it, but I've been wanting a game that can dynamically change seasons for a long time.

No, it's made by the guys who made Driveclub, using a new engine they made. I think... they did make the engine for Driveclub, and I don't know why Sony would have the rights to the engine and I'm pretty sure CM bought Evo Studios rather than just hiring the employees. Pretty sure it was said during the release of Onrush it was a new engine.

Handling/driving looks too much on rails , the car does not slide or drift in corners .. Dont get me wrong i like arcade games as long as they have proper physics for example: Dirt 2 , Dirt 3 , Grid 1 , Grid Autosport ect that with all assists off go closet to simcades .. To me Dirt 5 looks like completely arcade like the old Sega Rally games or the most recent Gravel by Milestone.. I hope with all assist off it feels less arcade..
Chase view! Reading some comments of various videos i found on utube the most common complaint about third person camera angles... When the car turns floats left and right , camera is not locked in the back of car like in Dirt Rally 2.0 for example.. It should be option to adjust this or the devs to fix it before the release date. PJTierney You should pass this to the team , just watch on utube comments how many people complaing about this
No good collision and damage system! Also it looks that there is not car's deformation but this might due to early gameplay footage
Did you actually watch the footage? There's lots of sliding, and damage is definitely a thing, though not on the same scale as D2. I don't care about chase cam because that's for arcade players.

Wow the YT compression kills it here. Had to bump up the res.
5:07 to 5:14 shows some great carbon fiber material/shader on the dash, that's really nice. Most games just have a simple flat texture or maybe anisotropy and it just doesn't look real. The new engine overall looks really good, seems like the Evo guys should've done this instead of Onrush. Hope they stick with this for DR.
It also seems like there's a pretty decent variety in vehicle classes, I just hope it doesn't end up like D4 where there's only 1 buggy, 1 2wd truck and 1 4wd truck.

8 hours ago, Mike Dee said:Yeah it isn't really new, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Yes other games have tried it and weren't able to fully deliver on it, but we have seen CM deliver on that kind of Dirt game before - D2 and D3 were fantastic in that regard (imo). So if D5 can capture the core game energy of D2 and D3, bring in some beautiful 2020 eye candy, and let their team just go BIG and a bit over the top with some flare to it all, I'm all in.
I love Dirt Rally 2.0 and the intensity/excitement of it all, but I also have been wanting something I can throw on later in the evening just to kick back more casually while doing epic things with my buddies over. This game is definitely not going to be for everyone, and if you're looking for the next DR3 you're better of just booting up 2.0 and sharpening your skills there. But for those who are looking form something reminiscent of those late Friday nights with all of your friends in a voice chat racing around getting into wild shenanigans, I think this is going to deliver exactly what we are looking for.
Mmm, I don't know. People were pretty upset that Ken Block even existed in either game. I enjoyed it, but having Mr. The Block say "Welcome to Dirt 2" is a lot more lowkey than Donut media, Slaptrain, and a full "story." I did like the first Horizon, where they kind of hyped up each "boss" before you raced them and they had an amount of personality. It was relatively minor and all done over "radio."
And I'm all for the "arcade" style, I just started playing D2 and getting close to finishing it, it's great fun, and so is D3. All I'm saying is I hope the "story" isn't too... over the top hipster d bag style, but given Donut Media and Slaptrains involvement... That's not exceptionally likely. The hipster d bag cliche has been far too prevalent in racing games for something like a decade now and it's real tiring.

There's your conversation starter, so take it from there, elaborate on your points etc.
All I'm saying is, someone knows how conversations work.

Track looks pretty wide for rallycross, even compared to the older titles, though the physics look about the same.

4 hours ago, Mike Dee said:All I can say is I'm hyped for this. I understand lots of people want more gameplay videos and focus on the content, but D5 is trying to give you an experience. And the idea of the big bios behind the characters, the podcast interviews throughout the career, the energy all of the VAs are injecting into the game, and the sense that you're a newbie breaking into this big and awesome scene is what is really going to help sell that experience.
None of that is new though, it's been done lots of times in other racing games, and it's always been boring or laughably dumb at best, or super obnoxious. NFS 2015 seems like it did a lot of that too.

No, PC market is not good for games. Consoles are much better. MS has small gaming busines and big PC business, that's why MS is there. Sony doesn't care too much. Why Rockstar games always starts with biggest brands with consoles only?
Who would play on a TV? I always played on gaming monitors. It's not dumb, it's OK if you are fast. Slow people are OK with 30 FPS slideshow but I can't imagine that. 60 FPS was standard on consoles 20 years ago so it's time to speed up a little.
Sony is literally porting over some of their big name exclusives, and long time console exclusives have had PC ports that sold well, which in turn led to them releasing more of their games on PC. PC is also a growing market, which spurred the ports in the first place. You're simply not being factual.
Rockstar recently has been putting much more effort into the PC ports than the consoles. There's also a bunch of games that start on PC before moving over to console.
Who would play on a TV? The vast majority of people who play on console.

8 hours ago, Johnnnn said:Dirt 5 is first 120 FPS game I know about. But I guess MS will update their flagships first. Both MS games have 60 and new Xbox should be able to double it according their info.
Ohhh, on console. Okay, sure. I was confused because Dirt 2 supports 144.
7 hours ago, Johnnnn said:Yeah, but who cares about PC, it's minor market.
If Dirt will be first, I could buy it even if the gameplay doesn't look good to me. Still hope MS will do it first. Who knows what will happen. This year will be very interesting.
Yeah, that's why it's growing rapidly and MS and Sony are pushing into the PC market.
Buying a game simply because it has a high framerate seems rather... dumb. You'd still need a TV capable of 120hz, of which the vast majority are only 60, especially at 4k.

Doesn't mean I'll be able to take Uncle Noly seriously. And whether or not they're any good at VO doesn't typically affect the most likely terrible script.

8 hours ago, gfRally said:Oh god SLAPTRAIN???????????? Can I turn voice off now? @JZStudios I don't know who this other guy is, but is he just another YouTuber?
Back to D2, the banter during a race was a little corny but I easily ignored it. At least those guys all raced for a living, and who doesn't like Travis Pastrana, crazy, but seems like a decent guy.
I am just going to try to shut up from here on until I see some in game racing videos before I make any further judgements. Everyone has thier likes/dislikes when it comes to who they can tolerate. I watch Hoonigan Garage, MIghty Car Mods, and channel called Subi Performance - a German guy that gets way excited about precision engine building.
What guy? Donut Media or Nolan North? Nolan North is a big name voice actor, he's in pretty much everything along with Troy Baker (The other guy in the video) and Yuri Lowenthaal. I'm sure they'll do a fine job, but... why?
As to Donut Media...
In any case, the Hoonigan guys are mostly relaxed, though they can get hyped up. The MCM guys are mostly normal guys that just mess around with each other, they don't have annoying voices or overly hyped personas like "Let's send it! HOLY.... CHIIT!" Slaptrain. I'd 100% prefer a deal with MCM. Also if you're interested, I highly recommend Grind Hard Plumbing Co. (Not a plumbing company) on YouTube.

Sorry, but I can't take Uncle Noly seriously as a cold, calculated veteran.
I'm also immediately highly suspicious of this career mode if we need voice actors with "personalities." It's possible it won't be terrible, but it's pretty much always been terrible every time it's been tried before. I'm also not a big fan of the loud, brash, and obnoxious Donut media, so I hope all the chatter is kept to a minimum.
And why the actual hell SLAPTrain? People hated the fact that other actual drivers talk to you in Dirt 2, I don't know why they would receive this any better.
The split screen and co-op seem cool though. Will there be anything explaining what the race types are?
-
7 hours ago, gfRally said:Will D5 have any seriousness to it? I mean D2 was always over the top, but the events where mostly believable. There wasn't any kind of locations or gameplay that couldn't happen IRL.
I see there are gate crashing events like in D3. That's ok, not my thing, but its understandable.
I only fear that most of the game is going to be more over the top Showdown and Gymkhana style events, than actual out right racing.
Hope the video today shows what I am hoping for.
The gate smash is 100% in D2. Just played it last night. It also looks WAY better without the horrible color filters.
What gave you that impression when literally nothing in the trailer showcased anything like either of those?
-
I just played some D2 with the awful color filters removed, and it still looks shockingly good, especially the reflections are super sharp. Locations are cool too. Hope D5 has a good handling model.

I totally want them to do a World Rollycross Championship 😄

Youtube keeps recommending this, and I can't tell if it's real or not.
*Edit:
Oh my God, it's actually legit. It's sponsored by the actual Envision Virgin Racing.

What a terrible trailer. I actually can't tell if anything is new/different outside the showroom and maybe a track location. Also the headlights in the thumbnail look terrible.

Is there a total vehicle count available or no? There's a lot of classes which is cool, but I'm hoping there's enough variety in those classes. Things like sprint cars and the rock bouncers only having 1 vehicle, sure, but D4's singular trophy truck was pretty weak.
