DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

It can also be used as a punctuation, for example: Czekaj kurwa czy ja lubię poziomki? Wait, do I like strawberries? You can see that the kurwa in English is translated literally as the " , ". There is a great video about the word "kurwa" but it doesn't have English subtitles. Shame, cause that would be pretty much a perfect explanation for everyone xD Never heard the word in my life, so I simply would say "this" while pointing at the word :D And seems like you can't go over a simple concept that has been in use for ages. If the word has its counterpart in a given language, you pronounce it as it is pronounced in that language when speaking in that language. If you speak in the native language of the Indians, then sure, pronounce Jaguar in the way it's supposed to be pronounced in that language. But if you speak in English then pronounce it in English way.

Funny you say that, because as it so happens, Jaguar is exactly how it's written in Polish, but I assure you if you want to say that with Polish pronunciation it will sound distinctively different from anything you've ever heard. Doesn't make it incorrect in any way though. My point? It doesn't matter how it's pronounced in its original language as long as it is not a name derived from someones last name (for example Ferrari, Pininfarina, Lamborghini) or a completely new word altogether. Jaguar is a name of an animal, therefore it is pronounced in the governing language of a given country. So if you want to say it in Polish way, you pronounce it in Polish way, in English, English way, French, French way and so on and so forth. And forgive me for pointing out, but there is a letter "u" in the word "jaguar". You don't just leave those things out, cause it can often change into a word of a completely different meaning ;) If in Polish you would stop pronouncing the letter "u", it would suddenly start sounding like a word from a completely different language o.O (for those interested, Jaguar in Polish is pronounced something like "Yagooar") Also given that you Americans took English as your main language and then proceeded to butcher it completely, I think it's wise to say that it's best to go to you people when you want to know how to NOT pronounce words :p That said, if you want to exchange a whole dictionary for one word and still be understood, Polish got you covered there, kurwa :D So we ain't much better in that regard, if at all... probably not... definitely worse xD

You're not alone. I hate those beetles with all my soul xD I don't mind the other Porsche though, like Carrera GT, 918, 924 etc. Aka those with a properly positioned engine :p That's because it uses the street version of Focus RS and the livery is from 2001, not 2000 like it was in CMR2.0. If he would re-name that screenshot to CMR3 it would fit pretty much spot on xD

I'd imagine the game will be released on the 3 main platforms at the same time. Just like it happened with pretty much all their games so far.

I'd wager it's more like... every manufacturer. Compared to other racing games devs/publishers, Codies seem to have a really hard time getting licenses.

Following the logic of NDA, what you said there means you have been given something that could have uploaded to YT, you had the option of recording that, just that the NDA didn't allow for it :p Oh, I also finally figured out what the [REDACTED] part of that tweet was talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqQhQSbe6fw

Take this link "https://s15.postimg.org/ekg5yru1n/bcgcbgfc.jpg" (without the commas) and click on the paper icon and paste that link there. For images to appear the link to them has to end with .jpg, .gif, .png etc. To get this image simply right click on the one in your link and click on "open image in a new tab". Then you have a direct link to the image, not the page.

Well, considering most of those related to DiRT team is related around programming of sorts, I can safely assume that they are increasing the work force now, most likely due to full acceptance and funds approval etc. But this being the Gossip thread, I naturally have to throw something that isn't reasonable. So the obvious answer is that the higher ups did a check and saw a massive kebab pizza party instead of them working which resulted in the entire team being sacked :D Possibly some WRC cats racing was also held.

It was actually a clip from one of TG live shows. I was tricked...  Actually, that was not a TG live show. It was "Clarkson, Hammond and May show". That came after the BBC fired Clarkson and naturally they had to come up with a name quickly. The whole clip was basically a parody made by them about... well, them. Also, I apologise. I know that gossip thread is not a place for facts xD

CMR 2.0 had both rally and rallycross, plus a lot of people remember it as one of the best presented games in the series, so perhaps that is the inspiration for the new game? Well, it wasn't rallycross per say. You were just driving rally cars on some rally stages made into circuits with simplified physics. Thus it was called "Arcade mode". That mode was best in Sweden with Fireball cheat :D

That's the PC version, which has awful colour. The PSX PAL version has the best colouring. Also, it's quite obvious that a car selection screen could've more to it than there. Service area would've been also a proper one but... PSX, so hardware limitations. My point is... with that kind of menu and the hardware/tech available nowadays, you can implement a lot of things fairly easily while keeping it very quick and intuitive and still giving some nice animations to look at. Yep, that brings me back to the point I made before. Don't go into an arcade racer with sim mindset and vice versa. In a sim or even simcade, you're concentrated on dealing with the car, not really opponents (which is why overtakes in circuit racers are very... schematic shall we say). Arcade is about dealing with... environment, aka opponents, traffic, shortcuts, jumps and what not. Again, it's about the racing not driving. So with the countersteering example, because the game does it for you, you can drift easily on every corner side by side with your opponents in Hot Pursuit '10 (outrageous drifting speed makes it just that more epic). That's not something you can do in simcades or sims through a single corner, let alone entire race. Although naturally not all arcades are "Drift for the win", nor do they even have roads that support that kind of gameplay. But the point stands... you're gonna have very close races that just won't ever happen in a simcade or sim. Heck, when I do some session with friends in Hot Pursuit, we usually end up driving in a single track, with the same car (we go in turns picking the car), just because in that combo it results in both hilarious and extremely epic situations. For example, 3 lane corner, in a tunnel, going 4 wide into that while all are drifting at above 250km/h+. It will either end up looking epic... or in a massive crash where everyone end up laughing their lungs out. And that's the point of arcade. You don't complain "it's not possible" or "why does it steer for me?", you simply benefit from what those things allow you to do which normally are either impossible or only for "few chosen ones" (which only do those things for montages or what not). Arcade racers are a completely different genre than simcade or sim racers. If you can't enjoy simplicity then... you simply don't play them, just as you don't play other genres you don't like. I mean do you play an FPS game and complain you can't get a good feeling with a steering wheel or that the car selection is too small or non existent?

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

If you want to go in a straight line you don't turn. Quite simple really :p 180-200 means you can't do quick reactions, which essentially will ruin your performance and feeling in a lot of arcade racers, different story for a simcade though. And yes, it comes down to physics, because in a lot of arcades opposite lock is a must, while in sims you shouldn't really be getting to it. GRID 2 is a simcade. There's a simple rule to deciding if a game is an arcade racer or not. If you can spin the car while going through a corner without the use of handbrake or any form of collision... it ain't arcade. And if 120 DOR would be unusable... then how come people use keyboard and gamepads to play racing games and are faster than wheel users that use even 180 DOR in arcade racers? I mean how they are able to play the games at all? Enlighten me Sherlock, because I honestly cannot understand that at all /strong sarcasm Or... they could go for a CMR 2.0 menu along with its theme and call it a day. That would be perfect. Although I admit I am a fan of the DiRT 2 trailer menu, but still... CMR2.0 menu is just... a completely different level. So good. Especially with that music. There's also the option to turn off the music volume down to 0, which results in just that :p

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

That's because arcades are made generally for gamepads. And if you want to use a wheel, then anything more than 120 DOR is basically pointless. And again... arcades are about racing, not driving. It doesn't matter much how the physics feel to drive, it matters how they behave in a race, what they allow to happen, if they "match" the environment etc. You can't go into an arcade racer with a sim mindset, just as you can't go into a sim racer with an arcade mindset. Even though both are racing games, they represent two completely different genres altogether. Similar story to RPGs and jRPGs. In short... enjoy it for what it is, not for what you want it to be. PS. The Crew is a simcade and yes the physics are floaty and rather crap in general. If you want to know what a proper arcade racer is, look at actual Need For Speed games (aka everything pre Underground), Burnout, Redout, Wipeout, GRIP, Rollcage, Most Wanted '05, Hot Pursuit '10. Arcade racers nowadays are quite a lost genre, as nowadays it's either sim or simcade, or puke inducing arcade in the form of Need For Sales '15. They aren't working on Burnout and they won't be working on it anytime soon most likely. Three Fields Entertainment is making a spiritual successor to Burnout Takedown, and that dev studio is comprised of two founding members of Criterion.

Well, being probably the only representative of the popcorn side here, I think I should drop an opinion (and quickly run away). While DR is definitely the game to go when it comes to rally, for racing I prefer... arcade racers (not even simcade tbh). Mainly due to the fact that you can have ridiculously close races at high speeds that in sim environment would just be not possible and would be... more than epic to watch. I'm not really sold on the "brake later, steal the apex, proceed to outaccelerate" style of the sim racers when it comes to... well, just racing. Driving? Yep, 100% agree on that, but for actual racing... arcade is a must. Now... *runs away*

Toca can suck my ass. sorry i own literally all codemasters games. but toca sucks big hairy ass. Toca 2 was amazing though. I remember playing all the TOCA's on PSX. Lord Bahamut those were a lot of fun and a challenge (well, for a 9-10 year old me at least). That series started declining with PS2 releases though.

San Remo or Corsica would be the perfect additions to the tarmac rallies. Twisty, fast, both require a lot of precision and best of things... not much need for looking out for not allowing cuts, since you'll be racing basically on coastal/mountain roads :D One of the reasons why I like Monte Carlo so much in DR.

The thing about multiple GPUs is this. SLI has decent support across titles, especially the AAA ones, although it can be better to play without SLI enabled for some games right after their launch, since sometimes SLI profiles just aren't up to the task yet. Usually solved within next driver or two releases. AMD side though... it's basically similar to nVidia just... a lot worse and slower. Once they add the crossfire support to a title, it works well, but given that they aren't good at it, it takes a long time. Some games may never see it actually. General rule of a thumb, if you're going for multiple GPUs, nVidia is seriously the more reasonable way to go. AMD side is effectively throwing away money currently. But in both cases it's better to have a single more powerful GPU rather than two weaker ones (unless we're talking outperforming Titan XP).

Instead of the "bad co-driver" being a career feature, it could be simply a toggle in the option menu, by default being off. Something like "Realistic  Co-Driver" or something along the lines. However, even with that, I'm pretty sure the quality of the pace notes themselves would go down given how those are recorded to achieve such a level of immersion.

Oh yes, so we have a one tester who use some unconventional setup that is done in a "controlled environment" (that sounds like a load of BS truth be told) and gets results that others do not, and on the other side we have people like JayzTwoCents who tests multiple versions of the GPUs (yes, 980Tis as well, many of them in fact) along with DigitalFoundry who show really detailed graphs and whose both results seem to match up and are different from your eurogamer ones. Yeah... doesn't sound fishy at all. I'll go with the 980Ti OC is slower than Titan X (Maxwell) OC which is slower than a 1070... OC, which is the result I see most often, even when you include non-reference designs. Not sure about other people, but multiple results that match up sound more accurate than that one result that is just different than all the others. Not saying 980Ti is a bad card, no, that's definitely not the case. Just that for technically less you can get a card that will be slightly faster.
