    Maybe it's the feeling that scarce resources are already spread too thin to give proper attention to what matters more to some people. We often hear/read "they're not a big-budget triple-AAA studio/publisher, so they don't have the resources to do what other game companies do" - so, it might seem to some like a waste of limited resources to pursue what might seem to some like low-return endeavors at the expense of things they care more about.


    They didn’t take on another entire studio just to work on updates for dirt 4 though! They took them over ages ago, and we’ve known since the beginning they have been working on a completely new project. Dirt has been quiet partly due to F1 marketing. I imagine the team must have started to move on to the next project by now, which they definitely won’t be able to talk about for some time. Hopefully something will come for dirt 4 though 
    Yes, a lot of our resource has been focused on F1 these past few months (with it being an annual title, it always gets crazy for F1 due to how much needs doing in such a small amount of time) - but there is more to it than that. Our hands have been tied somewhat when it comes to DiRT 4; for example, we've been working on a really cool competitive thing, but we have partners for this which means we have agreements to be signed, plans to be made, and NDAs in place around it. This is stuff you will hear about!! But, it's stuff we have to be vague on until the inevitable embargo lifts. 

    On updating the game: Clubs is coming (and we're sorry about how late that is - we've hit all sorts of hurdles when trying to get the features polished) and if all goes well that'll be here in a couple of weeks - and with it a fairly large patch too. Speaking candidly, there are a lot of moving parts behind the scenes at the moment, and while we're working on things you've fed back on, whether or not we can realistically bring it to this project is the question. Alas, these are decisions made by the people who make the big bucks and allocate where the big bucks go internally. 

    Again, I'm sorry this isn't the news you're all hoping for, and I am wildly aware that it's still rather vague - but seeing as though I'm not in the business of making things up or over-promising, I hope this goes someway to explaining the quietness!

    I've played more of the game now, and am liking it more and more. 

    I'm really loving the chase cam in the game, and it brings back very fond memories of the old Evo Studios WRC games with how loose it is, which is great. Like I said before, it's kind of like the GTA V cam. Also, a bonus about chase cam is that the cars don't actually sound bad, whereas on bonnet cam they sound horrendous. 

    I'll say again, the stage design is fantastic, with a lot of attention to detail. The overall visual presentation is a huge step forward. I'm impressed with the car models and lighting especially.

    The co-driver still sounds rubbish, but at least the pacenotes are now delivered at a proper pace.

    I've been having a bash at WRC 7, and I find it's a good simcade game. Anybody expecting anything more realistic is being a bit daft, given restrictions of accessibility with the brand. 

    I'm not taking the game seriously because of this, and due to the chase cam being excellent (like GTA V) I'm actually just having chill sessions using that. It's nice to see the cars as you drive 'em, especially when the visuals are pretty good. 

    Worth noting - the landscapes and stages are fantastic. Argentina in particular is great.

    It's just a thing that I've heard - maybe it was actually like you say - they've positioned themselves properly but some idiots joined them and because there was a lot of Estonian flags that's why one could assume they all are. 
    No worries mate! I've seen enough complete retards on local rallies to know that we may have had plenty to do with the stage cancellation :smile:

    You think people would learn from what happened on the opening stage of the Monte Carlo this year.

    I wonder if it's possible to bypass the whole WRC thing and just go straight to M-Sport, etc. for the bog-standard factory car. Are they tied to a higher licensing body, beyond the manufacturer?

    It is unfortunately the same thing over and over again with new cars and sequel numeration.
    It's a difficult one. Evo Studios came the closest when representing rally with the WRC license in a fair way to include all, without making it feel too wooden, but branding and licensing has changed a lot since then. 

    Gaming has become huge, because back when the original WRC games were out, people were considered losers for playing games in general, so there was more flexibility for developers because the market wasn't as potentially wide.

    Perhaps more relevant, the importance of money in licensing and branding has changed and increased significantly, and things have become greedy, petty and restrictive. You can see the same issue with the F1 games, and how little wiggle room they have. You'll have hardcore sim guys complaining, but they don't realise that Codies are working close to the ceiling as far as creativity goes. 

    It's an unfortunate scenario, and even though the WRC games could arguably benefit from being given to a more financially powerful dev studio, the same problems would still be there.

    Apologies if this has already been mentioned, @KickUp, but I noticed some issues with the delivery of pacenotes, specifically for hairpins.

    When testing on several different notches towards the earliest side of the delivery speed, I find myself overshooting junctions and diving into bushes due to late calls on the more technical corners (coming off a fast section), and they seem to be out of sync with the delivery speed of the rest of the notes. 

    I understand that pacenotes have been done differently this year, so thought it was worth mentioning, in case anything can be tweaked. 

    I mean, if you wanted to, you could get back into the sim seat and record pacenotes just for me :] :] :]  
    Don't do it for anybody else though, I want to feel special.

    I adore this game. Thank you so much, @KickUp & co. 

    This feels like a perfect step forward from DiRT Rally, and it's clear to see that you made excellent use of the project, as well as community feedback from us all, to make what is a terrific rally sim with enormous attention to detail on all levels. I can really see and hear the love that's gone into the game.

    maybe someone can briefly explain in 1-2 sentences?
    It's hard to briefly explain without missing out all of the significant atrocities that this newspaper has committed. 

    Generally, the most to-the-point things I can say are that the paper is a consistent and abhorrent source of lies, they will throw innocent people under the bus so long as they can make money from those lies, they protect the wealthy, they're cover-up artists, and they have no soul or heart when it comes to anything, and have 0 credibility. They will perform character assassinations on people, often times when that person doesn't deserve it, and will make people's lives a misery without any feeling of regret. 

    It's sickening that I live in a country that circulates the bile they throw around. Worse yet, people believe what they write. 

    The WD-40 livery is getting wiped off the game as soon as I get my hands on it. The Sun truly is a fucking vile disgrace.

    If it works the same way it did in DR I will probably do it what would be your preference keep it blank or replace it with something? 
    I'd love to see the livery turned into an anti-Sun car. That would be fantastic!

    Couldn't agree more. A newspaper full of cover-up campaigns and outrageous slander. A truly disgusting cult. 

    Change both the number plate, as well as The Scum's logo on the roof, bumper and anywhere else.

    Makes me a bit sick that they're being represented in what is gonna be one of my all-time favourite games. Scummy, rag of a news paper. I hope they make no money whatsoever off the back of people playing D4.

    Let's cast our minds back to how temporarily insufferable it got on here when DR came to console.

    In the event of something similar happening again with the launch of DiRT 4, I'd like to remind the long-time DR drivers, and also inform the new, patient drivers, that Bear's Happy Place is open for business to provide you with a safe haven, away from the misinformed guff that may be on the way. 

    My comfy BHP has been open since the last attack, and I expect it's initial purpose to come back in to effect once again! :D

    I don't think it will be any car but it will be as many as we can as it is seperate from the career.
    I think RCM is dodging the real question, but I'm always looking to jump in and help other folk out. Will he be able to drive his 106 round the Dirtfish Rally School?
