I have literally no idea what I'm doing with my wheel, don't know what half the feedback sliders do and I think I changed the rotation to about 720 but I haven't got a clue.
What I do know is its bloody good fun!
(and if I wasn't hungover and trying not to die/be sick, I'd be on it now!) -
Noooo! I told everyone to stop doing that, and now look! I'm not even on the list :(TURBODEVIN19 said: -
Well I don't really have a lot of room for a wheel, and I still don't really! I'm not really sat in the best position, back of my chair is up against the foot of my bed and pedals are against the wall! It's ok, but I'd prefer to be sat a bit more spread out and in a proper seat!griev0r said:
Before I sold my Obutto/Triple screen setup I used my TH8 as my handbrake for RBR (before DR came out). It worked great! But I gave up on sim racing for awhile because there seemed to be no rally simulator ever coming out again and circuit racing just doesn't do it for me anymore like it used to.Didzis said:
You could get a cheap USB gamepad and make some kind of lever mechanism which depresses one of the buttons (or make a custom one using a micro switch and soldering that to one of the existing buttons of the gamepad). You would basically be using that gamepad as the brains of the handbrake, so you wouldn't need to program anything, the PC would just see the gamepad, so everything should work just fine. That would require some craftsmanship though :DF2CMaDMaXX said:I have to drive on the wrong side of the road, so it made sense to put my shifter on the right, still need a suggestion for a cheap/easy way to get a USB handbrake so I don't have to rubber band my shifter.
I wanted to do something like this, just haven't gotten around to do it. It's H-shifter in the video. With a handbrake you would be using just one button instead of many and the mechanism would be a bit different, but the principle remains the same.

Then Dirt Rally came out of absolutely nowhere, luckily I saved my Clubsport wheel/pedals and a basic wheel stand just in case. Rally sim + wheel setup is just the absolute best. I can't believe @RallyDriven just now got one! I have seen you posting here for a long time. Btw I now use a button for handbrake, it takes a little to get used to but you'll get it!
And I have been around for quite a while now! Been on this thread since the first page, and I was in the old forums since before the release of dirt 3, but I had a different username! -
I didn't play much Michigan, but it was extremely fast in places! Will be a true test of balls! -

Farewell @RallyDriven. You were a fine fellow controller player, now you're just another wheel snob...RallyDriven said:So this whole wheel thing is a lot of fun! Why didn't I do this ages ago? -
I've driven a real world stage that was less than 1 mile before, so... whilst I agree that it would be nice to have longer stages, it's not that unrealistic, and it's clearly a tech limitation otherwise I'm sure they would be longer -
Haha, it's a future target ;)KevM said:
Can you see mine? What stage was it, il get a rip at itRallyDriven said:

You can tweak it to suit yourself, but I find that setup communicates what the car is doing fairly wellRallyDriven said:
Yep! Cheers for the setup help!KevM said:I knew you'd enjoy it!
Are you beating your own times yet? :)
What do you use as handbrake? I've currently got it as B, but I can never seem to find it once the wheel isn't level -

I didn't think I had the space for it, but I've managed to clear some space in my tiny room for it! -
I think dirt is definitely faster on a wheel than a pad. But it's certainly incredibly playable. Project cars just seems impossible without assists. As soon as the car starts to slide it's just impossible to control effeciently/at all. And I really don't want to play it with assists -
I'm alright with a pad, I can win quite easily on the hardest difficulty. However Project cars is currently free on Xbox live, and I'm finding it impossible to play on a controller. Think that just goes to show how well codemasters did dirt rally though! Looking forward to setting my wheel up tomorrow! -
Exactly why I prefer triggers, buttons are only ever full throttle or none. Triggers allow you some finesse. But there's no need for the for me any more, as call me £150 lighter and one wheel richer! -
I may be leaving you as a fellow controller peasant soon, it's just too tempting!tbtstt said:
Kids these days. Got no idea what real controller action is all about...RallyDriven said:I use X (square) as upshift and A (x) as downshift. B (circle) is my handbrake, and triggers are accelerating and braking. I hate using A and X as accelerator and brake!

It was quite fast, but he got away with very little damage. Think he was back out later, they probably just checked everything over and replaced the broken rear bumper -
Unfortunately this isn't how things work today! I just can't see it being a big enough market for it today. You've got the people that actually watch the championship, the ones that can afford to buy that type of car, and the ones that actually do want to buy it. That's a bit of a niche market -

This video explains a bit about it. It basically layers on a lot of assists like additional deceleration when you lift off, reduces the body roll of cars and other things. -
Yeah I played dirt 4 on a controller and it had hand over hand animationsBluestig said:Is there a hand over hand steering animation for controllers as well? Project cars disables it for controllers which really bugs me. -

That guy at the end of the trailer sure is handsome! Looks pretty good at locating all the buttons on a PlayStation controller when needed too! :D -
And Poland.KevM said:It's likely only Finland & Sweden that the max average speed will be broken. They are the fastest rallies on the calendar
Safety should obviously always be a priority, but I just don't think this is quite the right way to do it -
Thing is a straight road flat out is going to create higher average speeds than a series of high speed corners, but which is going to be safer? Average speed doesn't show the full picture.
And no, this is nothing like group b. Those cars were ridiculously overpowered, and were going way faster than the safety features and standards available to them. Plus there was the insanely stupid crowd numbers and positions. In most places, if you left the road, you were guaranteed to kill or injure people. -
Looks like the same giant poster we were greeted with when we walked into the room and discovered it was Dirt 4!

And the Audi licence wasn't a problem with need for speed. Hopefully the Audi support may help resolve the issue, if it's not too late into development to get it into the game! Unsure whether it's 16 or 17 content, will probably be 16 I guess
