  1. The only trouble with these subscription things or yearly update is still making a profit.

Youve got the people who buy the game to begin with, then after a year when an update comes out or a subscription renewal, your likely going to have a significant less % of people playing by this point. Some % will return with the interest of new content, but year on year this percentage of people buying or renewing subscriptions is going to dwindle quite quickly. As a company, it just probably isn't feesable unless you have a huge user base, otherwise you will be better off putting your efforts into putiing out new games

Yeah, its not beyond comprehension that you'll not spot the seams.
I would imagine you are more likely to recognise the odd roadside item or mini-landmarks, but merging tiles should not be difficult
Yeah, you may recognise the odd corner or bit of scenery, but that's better than memorising an entire stage!

I dont have the time to dig thru the comments, but is Monte and Finland licensed as well?   Pikes peak is 'sort of' a private road, I believe the tolls are collected are for profit.

However the others (Monte & Finland) are public roads, correct?  Here in the USA public is considered owned buy the public, so no need to license.

Please no politics (i've had enough already elsewhere), just wondering if this applies to other countries or did i misread @KickUp 's comment?
Well the actual event 'Pikes Peak International Hillclimb' would need to be licensed, so I imagine that you would be in trouble if you copied the road and didn't pay for it, even if you called it something else.

Looks like me and @KickUp will be teaming up again on some events this year. Hopefully our first event will be early April :)
Somerset stages? If so I'll hopefully see you both there!
No more gravel for the foreseeable future for me. It's too expensive!
Shame, you could see if they'd let you just do porlock? ;)
That would be an expensive toll road  :s
It's very expensive if you do what the car ahead of is did a few years back. They hit the bridge near the start on the first run in the morning, game over for the car and the bridge!

Oh. Nicky Grist is also recorded in dbox <3

Great show, everything on a high level - pictures, comments, montage. Good job!

    edit:
So while we all wait for June, humblebundle has Project CARS in promo.
    https://www.humblebundle.com/bandai-namco-bundle
It's also free on Xbox games with gold from February 16th! Looking forward to trying it out

Does the ego4 engine support terrain deformation? Also is dirt 4 using ego2.5?
No there probably won't be terrain deformation in dirt 4. And the ego engine hasn't really followed any number system, I think it's just always being added to and updated constantly. This will be a newer version of what was in dirt rally

I thought about that last night.  With DiRT Rally, you could really spend time refining a setup to near-perfection for a specific rally stage.

How are setups going to work for 'Your Stage'?
Do you need Long gears, Short gears?  Soft front-end?  Tight Diffs?  More suspension travel?  How would you know?
Could you do a pre-stage recce run over with a CREST animation or the like?
It gives you a map layout of the route before you run it, you set your parameters and click Generate Stage, we will hopefully get shakedowns?
Will complexity mean more corners or more crests/dips/jumps or all of the above though?  Its still going to be quite ambiguous & difficult to set up to suit!  Shakedowns would be essential to Your Stage
From what I gathered on the day, I think it possibly gives you more twisting and tight sections? But I'm not 100% I thought I heard that it kind of morphs the tiles slightly, but I'm sure @KickUp will confirm!

  8. Speaking of surface degradation, how unfair must it be for the 2WD cars that start last, after the stage has been torn up. I mean, they are the ones who struggle most with traction and they have to deal with the huge ruts.
Yep, the BTRDA championship in the U.K. Used to run smaller cars at the front, which was great for us in our 1.4 litre class. They changed it about two years ago so that it's the other way around, and the turnout of smaller cars has dropped off loads unsurprisingly. Some stages were absolutely awful to drive in a 1.4 fwd!

Hopefully after you run a stage and want to retry/restart the stage it will bring you back to the service area where you can tweak your setup. That was one thing I disliked in DR, I had to go all the way back to the main menu and start all over again.
Can't remember which game it was, might have been dirt 3 that had two option, 'restart' and 'restart from service area', that was a good feature

  9. Bertelli is also back in the old fiesta, and the other regular in the mini who's name I forget. Lefeberverer and Breen are switching cars, I hope Craig has a good rally, and proves he's worthy of the seat and the C3.

Anyone else find find it odd that M-sport have made 4 fiestas in the time it's taken Citroen to make 2 C3's? Especially since they weren't even competing properly last year!

I also hope they won't go overboard with the retired vehichles on the side of the road. Like 4 every stage ;)
    This.
Don't worry. We'll be measured in our approach to these things. Obviously we wanted to show it off in the demo but when it comes to the real thing they should be less frequent.
That said I once did a stage on the Malcolm Wilson Rally where there were around 6 retired cars in various states and positions.

Yeah, when you've got 150+ cars on a national event, you'd be surprised how many you may pass off in a stage, especially if you're running near the back. My worst memory is seeing spectators slowing us down, then spying a sorry looking 6R4 well off the stage in the trees. I shed a tear or two before I remembered I was supposed to be reading notes

I don't think there are actually any real life stages, think there may have been a communication error somewhere. All the stages are generated in Your Stage. The career mode stages are pre generated but not based on real world stages, just real world locations.
That is a bummer. I'm sure the generated stages can be awesome, but I doubt they will have the same soul and attention to detail the current stages has.

And I still don't get why no older spec WRC machinery could be licensed.

Anyways, exciting times! Hopefully we will have more info soon.
Exciting if you're getting a check from CM...

And I'm sure this "game" will be great... for those who it was built for, not the people who bought the previous title. Glad I got it cheap during EA....
Christ what are you on about? None of us were paid for our visit to codemasters, we went because we were fans of the game, and passionate about rally! Dirt 4 has a lot of the soul of Dirt Rally, it's just been scaled up for a bigger market. If you liked dirt rally, you will like dirt 4. If not, go moan somewhere else
Nobody was referring to you... **** off and go praise your CM overlords some more.... let the adults ask valid questions.
You don't want to start abusing people on here. Not with me around. I will abuse you until you cry for your mother.
    I doubt that....

But am I supposed to just lay down and take this crap from people who couldn't see CM do wrong? Lol, no...

I'm asking valid questions and getting attacked, and I'm not the only one, check the net, we ALL feel this way.

So sit here in your echo chambers if you'd like, but if you attack me for asking valid questions and valid points just because you don't want to hear it, I'm gonna bite back.

Troll away, because I have like 50 socks....
Don't think anyone attacked you, at least not until you started swearing at us! I've answered all your questions, you just haven't listened to me!

Haha, you're so funny! Have a nice time being miserable about a game that hasn't come out yet x
