Haha! No, there are spectators on the edge of the stage a little way ahead of where the accident is flagging you down, like you'd see on a real event. The car that I passed was off the stage though and wasn't actually blocking it. And before I started the stage, Paul told me that I didn't need to push too hard in this stage because my competitor had crashed out. I was surprised when I saw the car, and I had a big smile on my face!KevM said:
Yeah, I can see that resulting in many smashed monitors - lolRallycameraman said:Has anyone mentioned the random appearance of a crashed or broken down competitor on stage with the crew slowing you down? Another cool little feature that's been included following feedback.
Picture the scene, you are completely on it, destroying your best time on the splits and get to the final sector to come across some tool on his roof with pacenotes and plastic bottles strewn all over the stage, and put a wheel into a verge trying to squeeze past at full race-pace, only to catch a big rock and put yourself into a field with a wheel off :D
Rally over! -

If anyone didn't see the redbull article, I'll post it again because it's a good read.

I more mean for things like landing of jumps and getting unhappy over bumps. I agree the way the cars transitioned in DR was really good, and from my memory that was the same in 4.KevM said:
'Planted' is perhaps a bad description though. I thought the way the cars in DR transmitted skipping over the uneven surface was a real masterpiece. Yes, they got lairy over yumps after V2 but for me, more 'planted' would be bad?RallyDriven said:I didn't try the arcade, but it doesn't look like simulation handling to me.
So, when I first sat down to play, it immediately felt familiar to dirt rally. I instantly noticed the cars weight felt a lot better, the car felt planted on the road and wasn't getting thrown about as much as it tends to in dirt rally. Then I came into the first major braking section, brakes at the same point as I would have in dirt rally, and immediately over-shot the corner! So the braking distances are much more realistic, and in that video of Kris it shows Him braking very last minute, so I'm going to say it's definitely aracade! -

1. Sorry I'm not that technical with things like that, but it did feel better, car behaviour was a big improvement over dirt rally in all aspects.Snaky115 said:So i suppose my main 3 questions for now to devs/testers
1) Is engine improved from DiRT Rally? Supposedly DR had a few engine limitations preventing some other things i forget already.
2) Amount of Stadium trucks? More than in DiRT 3, which boasted the glorious number of ONE?
3) Same as 2, but for Buggies.
2. I didn't really explore it that much, all I saw in the build was a rear wheel drive class with one truck, and a 4 wheel drive class with one truck.
3. Didn't test the buggies, but I breifly played the cross karts (I assume they are different things and it's not just the gaming sites listing the cross karts as buggies).
Edit: I've already said it, but I'll say it again, the simulation handling is in very good hands, and is built on what was done in dirt rally. The braking distances have increased, so I imagine they were probably playing arcade. -
Um, I'm not sure actually. Possibly unlicensed, but I don't really know much about real world trucks, so they could have been licensed ones!warpengage said:
May I ask, were they licensed trucks, or generic ones?RallyDriven said:Dirt fish rally school was really cool. I played with the stadium trucks too, they were a lot of fun! Especially the rear wheel drive Ines, they were my favourite. There were 4x4 ones too.
Also, since the trailer has a heartbeat theme to it, it remind me that you should use a song, for your intro, from another title with a theme of heartbeat:

F2 kit cars were in the version we played, can't comment on wether they will make the final cut though! Also in the build we played were a less powerful 2wd class and an R2 class! Again, can't say if they will be in the final version or not though! -

Rallycross has also been improved a LOT. The handling was miles better, especially on Tarmac. There was also a lot more detail in the spotter calls -
The notes sounded like dirt rally's stages, even though I think they were recorded differently. They still sounded authentic basically.
There's a special dirt show coming soon, so you'll see some more soon.
There were a lot of cool new features in the game, including a flying finish and driving up to the control boards, competitors crashing and breaking down in stages, so you would see spectators flag you down in the stage as you passed the crashed car, and probably some more I've forgotten! -
Yeah, those four are gone, but Australia, Michigan and Spain are replacing them.sqdstr said:
From what I've read so far it looks to me like Monte, Finland, Germany & Greece are gone, that's quite a lot tbh.RallyDriven said:
Theres 1 less rally location than in dirt rally. Wales and Sweden return, but with all new stages.
I'm a bit dissapointed as well in all honesty. Yes it's very nice the game has expanded with new race modes, but to see it was added at the cost of rally content is dissapointing... -
I can't remember, but not all the cars were in the build that we played. -
I can't remember stage lengths, they were similar to dirt rally I think.
There is quantity and quality on offer! The gameplay is coming from an early PS4 build, so don't worry about that. It looked good from what we played on pc back in November! -

The sim handling is improved from dirt rally a lot and felt really good. The stages, even though generated, still felt like proper stages, and the pacenotes were absolutely fine. WRC? .. In short, at least the cars currently present, there will be?I think not, is not a Rally game .. it's just a soup
Theres 1 less rally location than in dirt rally. Wales and Sweden return, but with all new stages. In addition, the track generator means that there is even more rally content than in Dirt Rally. There were also more classes of rally cars I believe than in dirt rally, including group b.
One thing I'll clear up, no there probably won't be any WRC cars, they couldn't get licences for any unfortunately. But there was a beefy looking R5 class, with 4 or 5 cars in it -
The leaderboards are split down the middle, so there's different leaderboards for both types of handling.
The stages did feel like proper stages. I'm going to try and explain how it works, but I'm not 100% sure if this is correct so don't take my word for it.
So basically, there are multiple 'tiles' in each location. When you generate a stage, these are randomly stitched together to create a stage. The tiles are also altered slightly by the 'complexity' slider, which I think changed things like tightness of some corners and things.
Again, bit 100% sure if that's right, but I think that's how it worked. -

Paul is in the game too! Multiple co drivers!

I'm not actually sure. Think they were probably similar length to dirt rally, maybe a little longer. But I can't remember unfortunately.SkyRex said:Nice, very nice
and the 2015 WRX STI will be there ! and the R5 cars (at least the Fiesta)
improved physics sounds nice too!
Fewer rally locations is a bummer... but custom stages sounds super awesome !
Important question for the visitors: How long can you make those custom stages ? Like maximum length ? And do you know if you can save them and create some nice complete rally events from those featuring only long realistic stages ? that would be bonkers
And it being a main-release game from CM, we can probably count on Rally-location-DLC
Does anyone know if this is an evolved EGO or if it's a new engine?
I would describe this best as dirt rally meets dirt 3/2.
Anyway, I'm off lunch break and back to work, I'll leave it to the others to answer any questions! -
Already trending on twitter! Well done guys!
Also, there's a free roam area in the game for practicing and other stuff -
Yeah, but there's basically infinite stages! Plus I think 3 landrush and 6 rallycross tracksbogani said:
I don't wanna be that guy but... only 5 locations for rally? I hope there will be more.Azoresst said:According to Eurogamer: "For more traditional rally, Dirt 4 boasts five locations - Australia, Spain, Michigan, Sweden and Wales"
So 3 new locations (from DR - Michigan was present in D3, right?) but some dropped from DR. -
All the Wales stages are new, as well as Michigan. Wales and Sweden were the most technical of the locations (although didn't get a chance to try Sweden), but the Australian and Michigan stages were still fun and difficult. Spain was just tarmac as far as I'm aware, recognisable from the last few days of rally Spain -
Lots better, car weight feels miles better, braking distances are better, and cars no longer fly to the moon over bumps.Etirion said:That sounds very cool, what about the physics, do they feel different, better? More realistic? Longer stages?
There is also an aracade handling mode available for those that prefer dirt 3 style handling. I didn't personally try it because I was only interested in the simulation handling, but others said it was good -
Stage creation is very cool, we played around with it in November. You can alter the length and technicality on sliders and it will create a stage for you -
Some things might not be 100% accurate, but you'll find out in, well, not very long! -
Some things are just worth getting sued over, like supplies of shortbread, ale and gin. *hint hint*ChristinaMc said:Gosh, you guys are really obsessed with food!... -

I'll just go find that old torture table, now.

Actually, I'll start working with my dad soon and there's a decent possibility we could be going to London for a demo... Still a month or two away though.
