  1. Talent wise it's paddon and neuville in the first team, but right now, results wise, it's paddon and sordo. There's no conspiracy behind anything by, just don't think he's happy within the team. He's had a few bad results and crashes, and *speculation* not been getting on well with the team. I also think that him and paddon don't get on great with eachother for some reason. Was it Spain last year that neuville went off in a stupid place? Turned out to be transmission problems threw him off the road, but paddon was furious at the time for binning it for the team

  2. Toyota have started testing for 2017 (finally), and rumours of neuville moving to Citroen for next year? Not sure how long he has signed contracts with Hyundai for, but I get the impression he is not as happy as he used to be there. Hope something gets worked out for him soon

  3. Paddon is incredibly determined as well as talented. He puts in so much effort before rallies. By the sounds of it he studied every inch of that powerstage before the rally, then pulled off an incredible run. I think even if Ovier had pushed, he would have struggled to take the 2.6 seconds he needed to take the win

  4. I just think road position is part of rallying. At an amateur level we use seeded road position, so fastest first. But that's because there is a lot of difference in speed, and people would be catching eachother a lot more.

Ogier can clearly deal with it, so I don't see his problem

  5. I'm not too sure if Hyundai is the right place for neuville, however I see other moves as a bit too risky. M-Sport just don't have a competitive enough car, and Toyota is way too quiet for my liking. VW are happy with their trio, and I'm not sure if they would take him. Citroen would be the only option really. I like Thierry, so I hope things work out for him soon

  6. Paddon has definitely proved himself this weekend. I can't even imagine the pressure he had coming into that powerstage, a 2.6 second lead to the 3x world champion? And yet, he not only pulled it off, he walked away with 28 points. No one else has done that since VW entered the championship.

Sadly though, he's still got a way to go to reach that robot like consistency and speed of Ogier. His talent is ridiculous

Call me pessimistic, but we all know what's gonna happen in the end.
Ogier is an animal when he gets into the zone. At times he looks more forbidding than Loeb did.
I fully agree with that: some of the moments that occur when Ogier is pushed are spectacular. I personally think he is way more ragged when on the limit that Loeb ever was...

...but that obviously wasn't enough this weekend: great job from Haddon! Makes you wonder, how long can Latvala (and arguably Neuville) retain their seats when you have drivers like Paddon posting results like that?
Yeah, but Latvala still finished 2nd in the championship last year, and this weekend he suffered from two mechanical failures. I really like Neuville, I think he can be right up there when he's in form. Sadly he suffered mechanical failures too. But think of it like this, he lost 6 minutes from a breakdown, and still beat Camilli who didn't have a single problem all weekend.

  8. The thing is, someone has to be first on the road, and is it fair to put the *worst* drivers in the most unfair conditions? Plus, only half the rallies being first on the road is actually bad. And also, most rallies do repeat stages in the afternoon, so he's only sweeping for half the stages, then on the last day he's running at the back, where he wants to be. For a 3x world champ, it just seems ridiculous to moan about these stupid things

  9. A sense of speed and danger is something which is incredibly difficult to translate into a game. So last weekend on the somerset stages we lost the back end on a reasonably fast corner, and the front was heading towards the bank on the inside. If we had hit that, we would have definitely rolled. You can't really translate that feeling of adrenaline into a game. Don't get me wrong though, Dirt does an unbelievably good job, but as skiddy just said, those coming from other motorsport disciplines might have a difficult job of understanding where that feeling comes from. I know when I'm pushing hard on dirt rally, and I feel like I am on the edge. But understanding that feeling as an outsider is probably more difficult.

  10. I don't see ralycross disappearing at all. It's very quickly growing in popularity. I can only see it becoming more prominent in racing games. But as I said, I don't ever see it becoming popular enough to support its own standalone game. But if you are looking to have a side element in a rally game which involves contact racing, rallycross will ALWAYS be the number one choice, as it's the most popular and recognizable. I enjoy all the other previous offroad sports in dirt games like the trucks and buggies, but they're just not as popular. It isn't something that's going to disappear, no way.
Rallycross tracks are too short for a standalone game, and rallycross is really cool in real life cause you feel all the bumps, crashes and more. In game its boring cause you dont feel anything. The close contact in rx gives the drivers adrenaline and more and thats why they like it.
I don't find RX in game boring at all. I think it provides some of the best moments in game when you are scrapping for positions flatout and sideways! You could compare any motorsport in a game and say it doesn't give you adrenaline the same as it would in real life. That's just what happens. The game does a brilliant job of giving you an incredibly realistic feel of driving a rally car on a special stage, but I could say its boring because I've been in a real rally car and it's not the same.

It has nothing to do with the nature of the sport, it just comes down to the very simple fact that rallycorss is not as popular as sports such as rallying, F1 and NASCAR which all have their own standalone games.

  12. Trouble is, from a management point of view, Grid is done for. Grid 2 received pretty mixed reviews and poor reception from a lot of fans of the original, and Autosport didn't really sell because of that, despite being a better game. Where as Dirt 1, 2 and 3 did very well, showdown broke even despite its flaws, and Dirt Rally seems to have done very well, especially in reviews and its reception. It's likely that we will be seeing what Paul was talking about on absolute rally radio, and possibly something a bit different from the former evo studios guys.

  13. I'm not sure if a standalone RX game would sell. I think it would be targeting too small a market. I seem to remember a conversation back when I visited codies about world RX wanting a standalone game, but the guys didn't think it would work. If you think about it, everyone who wanted to buy a RX game would have bought dirt rally already. So then take off all the people who only bought it for rally and hillclimb, you wouldn't be left with many people

  14. It wouldn't really have to be truly dynamic, as you would never see what the other cars have done. The only time true dynamic changes would be requires would be if it incorporated something like dirt 3's online staggered starts. As you say, all you would need is some kind of system that implements varying levels of ruts onto a stage depending on your starting position. And on tarmac stages you could have areas where mud (or snow in monte) has been brought onto the insides of corners where cars are taking cuts.

  15. Another thing that was highly hinted at by Paul was something along the lines of dynamic stages. He mentioned how they wanted to come up with ways where the stages would always be slightly different to provide a new challenge. Could also mean more dynamic weather with puddles?

Yeah, I saw that thread earlier. Just back away slowly while avoiding eye contact.

Also, don't worry too much about the future, it is looking good :D
Worrying about the future? you do know this is the gossip thread, right? ;)

  17. In short, the next game will take the basis left behind from dirt rally. it may be a sequel, it may be something a bit unique and different, but it will take forward the ideas from dirt rally. There was mention of early new handling being developed that already made dirt rally look 'old school'. Paul also mentioned increased production value of the game, so I'm guessing they will get the budget to produce something with the exterior qualities of previous dirt games, such as a more detailed career, soundtracks, menus and everything else. Which is one thing that I think Dirt rally misses slightly.
Great news, except this part: "it may be a sequel, it may be something a bit unique and different". Call me paranoid if you wish, but maybe we're not getting another rally game this next time around?
I interpreted it as maybe going along the lines with what they did when they first moved from the CMR games to DiRT. So incorporating different elements of the rally and offroad racing worlds into one game, but using dirt rally's approach to handling and detail. Basically, what ever comes next will be some kind of evolution of dirt rally. Paul also mentions DLC for DR as one of the options for the future, but it sounded unlikely from what he said.

  18. Can you sum it up? I am deaf. @bogani

  19. Not sure if this qualifies as gossip or not, but while watching a rerun of the world RX round in portugal I noticed that the need for speed logos were missing from the EKS audis. Maybe we'll be able to get them in the game/next dirt later on?

I don't think need for speed had anything to do with the reasons for the car not being in the game. I can't remember the full conversation we had with the team about it when we were there, but I remember a different issue was the main cause of the problem
