Yes and false promises of GRID 2019 split screen - it looks like that will never happen now - it seems we were all sold GRID 2019 on false pretences.
-
I'm guessing no split screen?
-
Will F1 2020 have split screen for PC? I read it will but don't want to get my hopes given what happened with the last GRID release
-
Well, still split screen I guess (Sorry, I'm Hungarian that's why the game is in Hungarian 😄 )
-
Singleplayer, multiplayer and split screen
-
I'd guess they've had to optimise some assets to get split screen running at an acceptable speed.
-
the beta will probably consist of 4-5 tracks the multiplayer car and a grand prix mode and online mode and ofc split screen or that's how its been for the last two years atleast I doubt there will be a major difference between the first week of beta and the YouTuber content that we are seeing maybe in the later stages of the beta we will start seeing new types of content that the you tubers haven't had access to.

I did not quite understand if I can activate the casual mode even if I play with a friend via split-screen

Split-screen at it's finest! 😄

I was a little bit sceptical as well when I first saw the footage on YouTube, despite looking practically the same as F1 2019 some aspects looked like a little bit of a downgrade. That said I was trying to say to myself that it was down to the YouTube compression and when we actually play the game for ourselves it will probably look a lot better and more comparable to last years game. Not too sure what it is but some of the lighting looks a little bit off in the footage on YouTube, making the cars look a little out of place compared to the track. Although it is still “work in progress” so I guess a lot of the finer touches can be added when they update the cars to the final models. That patch of missing trees is a bit of a strange one though, maybe there is something going on there like you say to compensate for the games performance and requiring more power for features like split screen and the rear mirror. Maybe Codemasters can confirm and clarify if it’s intended to be like that or if it was something that was missed unintentionally and could be corrected closer to the games release.
-
Hopefully that's just present in the early build and they will fix it. I could understand downgrading the scenery a bit when playing split screen but otherwise it should be looking as it is supposed to, at least looking like in F1 2019.

As I mentioned in a previous post I'm a big fan of the game but it saddens me to see so many flaws that in my opinion are very basic for a racing game. No ghost mode to see how record times were done. As a host, I want to be able to cancel the current round whenever I want and proceed to the next one. Very long loading times (I know, probably not much you can do about it but maybe cache a bit more if I'm playing something I played earlier the same session). Possibility to skip XP summary after multiplayer races. This screen delays the loading time a lot before you arrive in the lobby or start loading the next race. I can skip in singleplayer, so maybe add the same for multiplayer. Possibility to skip the scoreboard summary after each race (the 20 seconds are pretty useless and add time to the already long loading screen following it). Related to the previous one: I only want to see the loading screen for the next map after a round is finished instead of three (incl. XP summary). When looking at leaderboards for different maps and cars, Please remember my selection so I don't have to reselect all the parameters every time. For example, if I choose "Okutama GP", "Sprint", "R26" and decide I want to see the times for the "Grand Circuit" instead it's another 27 clicks before I reach that option. It would've been just two clicks if it remembered what I just chose 5 seconds ago. I'm usually playing time attack with my friends cycling between a few maps and there's no way to disable vehicle collision. This means that sometimes you'll collide with the one in front of you if you're both having good runs but you're a tiny bit faster. Someone has to give up their current lap for the other player (did you even try time attacks?). When I create a game and choose a vehicle category I would love to see all available cars in that category (just a simple list would be fine). Now I have to memorize them class by class. I can, however, see the cars when the event is created, which makes me jump back and forth until I find the car that's on my mind. Neither I nor my friends can find any option to save a replay. You can watch it after a race (singleplayer only?) but there's no way for me to show my friends how I'm doing a specific lap And show my split times (as replays hide the UI AFAIK) unless I'm streaming to services, such as Twitch (which allows to save videos), which lowers my performance in-game. That's what's on the top of my mind right now. I know many of these are simple implementation fixes and I'd highly appreciate if you'd fix some of them (e.g. save (and cut) replays + no-collision mode) and as a UX/UI designer, I'd be happy to help out if there's anything I can do (no, I'm not looking for a job. I'm just passionate about the game ).

Hey everyone, As always, we hope everyone is healthy and happy during these times, and using video games to stay entertained and occupied. The Codemasters team is very much settled into a new working routine, and going full speed ahead as ever with our ongoing projects to help gamers enjoy and escape. Of course, if you’ve been following our channels for the last fortnight, we don’t need to tell you that! It’s been another crazy couple of weeks for Codies, with new gameplay drops, new updates, and the small matter of a brand-freaking-new game announcement. Let’s get straight into your latest dose of Codemasters news… DIRT 5 So, who’s ready to Let Loose? It’s here! First revealed during the global Inside Xbox showcase, welcome to DIRT 5, launching from October this year for Steam, Xbox and PlayStation consoles, along with Google Stadia in early 2021. The announce trailer gives you just a glimpse of what’s to come in our boldest, bravest ever title in the DiRT franchise: Ice racing with converted GTs on New York’s East River; Ariel and Jimco machines tearing up the hills of China; classic and modern rally cars fighting through a Norwegian seaside town – all with a layer of style and confidence that nods to the days of DiRT 2 and DiRT 3. Then there’s the Career Mode featuring Troy Baker and Nolan North, four-player split-screen, deep livery editor and Photo Mode… and that’s just scratching the surface. Keep an eye out for stuff you’ve never seen from this franchise before. DIRT 5 also marks Codemasters’ first title to arrive on next-gen consoles, coming to both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, tapping into the power of new consoles with even greater graphical fidelity, faster loading and plenty more. Already confirmed on the Xbox side of things is Smart Delivery, meaning if you purchase DIRT 5 for Xbox One, you’ll automatically receive a version of DIRT 5 for Xbox Series X, if and when you make the switch-up, free of charge. We’re just getting started, and are busy working on ways to bring you insight and content on everything else we have to come. We’ve laid out a tour path for you, so know what our focus will be on each month until launch. The official DIRT 5 website will keep you up to speed with pre-orders – which are now live on Steam, including a 10% discount on the Amplified Edition for players of any previous DiRT game! I could go on for days about everything revealed so far, but checking out our pieces on the Xbox Wire, PlayStation.blog and Red Bull Games covers DIRT 5 from all angles. Whilst you give those a read, I want to give a shout-out to every single person working on DIRT 5, from our Cheshire and Southam teams, who are putting in a tremendous shift to make this game something special in the current climate. Now, the real fun begins… – Chris F1 Hey all, Things have been busy in the world of F1® 2020 recently! Earlier this week, we released a beautiful trailer for F1® 2020, featuring the epic theme composed by Brian Tyler. I absolutely love it, and you can check it out right here: As well as showing off our fantastic trailer, we also confirmed that we have a full season, half-season, or three-race F2 experience that you can choose from before you start off on your F1 journey. Not only that, but we’ve also confirmed the full classic car list, which you can go and check out right here. Phew. That’s not all though! Yesterday, media and content creators started to release some early preview gameplay for F1® 2020, and you can check out some of the early previews in our handy playlist right here: We’re not quite finished yet – we’ve been loving the Virtual Grand Prix and Challenge action, and this weekend is no exception… make sure you keep an eye on our channels for news! Stay safe! – Jenny DiRT RALLY 2.0 Hello everyone – here’s what’s been happening in the rally world recently: World RX Esports Invitational (Montalegre Edition) – After a successful event at Catalunya, the World RX grid headed to the virtual mountaintops of Montalegre for the second Esports Invitational. In addition to several of the drivers, esports players and special guests from Catalunya, the Montalegre Edition had stand-outs such as former F1 driver Mika Salo, Formula E driver Antonio Felix da Costa, and the New Zealand speed demon known as Shane van Gisbergen. If you missed any of the action, we’ve got the YouTube playlist right here, and if you already know the result but want to read more, we’ve got a round-up right here. The real-world season calendar is set to kick off in August, though we may see some more Invitational action before then, so keep an eye out. Solberg World Cup – The biggest Club in DiRT Rally 2.0 history is still kicking along, as nearly 15,000 competitors headed to Sweden and Greece in recent weeks, and have just set off around the USA. DirtFish’s rally instructors Sam Albert and Jack Harrison have been putting their real-life skills to good use, and have an insightful blog on their experiences so far, which you can read here. I’ve had a go myself and am pleased with being in the top 250 overall so far; that’s better than expected but still a fair bit off the pace of the esports professionals. Greece was a tough one for me as I swapped my trusty Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 for the Mitsubishi Space Star R5, expecting the more nimble car to help with the tighter sections. It was a gamble that didn’t really pay off (due to my lack of talent behind the wheel, the car is fine) so I’ll be back in the more familiar Polo for the remaining rounds. Speaking of… Version 1.14 of DiRT Rally 2.0 released last week and brought the usual round-up of tweaks and changes. If you missed the patch notes, they’re here. The main highlight for many players will be the unlocking of Petter and Oliver Solberg’s liveries from last year’s Wales Rally, for the Volkswagen Polo GTI R5. These were previously exclusive challenge rewards but enough time has passed to open them up to everyone. The Festive Liveries from December are also available, as well as difficulty tweaks to the Colin McRae Scenarios, based on how well players have been completing (or not completing) them so far. One neat thing to point out is that the Ford Escort RS Cosworth has an entirely new, glorious engine audio, based on fresh recordings of a real car. The reason it got an update a year after launch? The car’s in DIRT 5 (you may have seen it in a few screenshots) and the work gone into building that version has benefitted the DiRT Rally 2.0 car as well. Big ups to the audio team for that one – the car sounds great. That’s all I’ve got for today, keep on rallying out there and I’ll catch you all again soon. – PJ GRID We’re pleased to announce that GRID Season 3 is now available on Stadia! Released at the end of last week, those with GRID Ultimate Edition playing on Google’s streaming service will now have access to six new cars, Suzuka Circuit, and a bunch of new customisation options. For those that missed out on exactly what GRID’s Season 3 featured, head over to the ‘deep-dive’ blog post where we picked apart everything included in the content drop. Along with the release of Season 3 on Stadia, we also made a bunch of bug fixes and tweaks to benefit everyone playing GRID – whether you’re an Ultimate Edition player or otherwise. Fixes included updating the Koenigsegg Agera RS audio as well as addressing performance issues on PC. Here’s the post over on the Codies Forums that details exactly what we’ve tweaked. That’s all we have to share for now. We’ll leave you with a snippet of some awesome downhill action from Racing Ahead member, ISAD (I Suck At Driving), on Mizu Mountain. Fans of eurobeat will thoroughly appreciate the full video. – James F1® MOBILE RACING Hey! A quick check in from the Mobile side of things, now that we’ve caught our breath after a dramatic couple of days of real-world F1 news… We’re making final preparations to the next game update, which gives everyone their first chance to experience the F1 2020 season, with new cars, driver line-up, helmets and circuits. We also have a host of new events and core gameplay changes to take our free-to-play handheld title up yet another gear and make it ready for the new season of action. Make sure to check out our blog post from April about F1® Mobile Racing’s 2020 update, not just for all the details, but also screenshots of the 2020 season cars in the game for the very first time! – Chris ANY OTHER BUSINESS? – Codemasters is pleased to still be hiring and taking on new staff in the current climate. We’ve recently welcomed some new faces to the team and are on the lookout for the brightest and best to join the crew! Over 40 vacancies are listed on our Careers page, with positions including Graphics Programmer, Quality Assurance Technician, Programming Talent and Vehicle Artist. View the full article

Is the only way to remove the split time notification from the centre of the screen is to remove the race position information? I'd rather keep both but move the split notification to somewhere where it doesn't completely distract from the racing. If the two could be made into separate OSD options, or at least move it higher on the screen, that would be fantastic. Xbox One by the way.

Cryptic doesn't even enter into it. That statement could mean anything. I'm hoping he's talking about the DAS for Mercedes, or a new Physics/Handling engine, or classic tracks (Brands Hatch, Please!) but it could just mean they had trouble implementing split screen. I guess we'll find out in a couple weeks. 😕 Edit: Sorry to be "that guy." I certainly don't want to burst any bubbles. But this isn't my first hype train. 😉

Biggest takeaway for me so far after watching some of the gameplay videos. Aarava mentioned that there is an option for a rear view mirror! Thank you Codemasters 🙏. As someone that predominantly plays in cockpit cam that feature alone makes me grin from ear to ear. Curious to see it in action. For me if they’ve managed to get the game engine to handle split screen multiplayer then surely a mirror option couldn’t have been an impossibility. Many thanks

ah, you haven't seen this (otherwise pretty uninteresting) interview yet, have you? skip to 0:45 seconds in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFw752sJEhI he makes it clear that different seasons offer different places to race in NYC, and I think it's safe to say that this will mean different event types too, (you can't race on ice year round) and will apply to other (if not all) locations: Norway (it looks like Lofoten, which is very far north) is pretty different from summer to winter, so it's worth showing, and the one shot in the trailer where they showed different seasons seemed to be in China. the bottom line is that there's 70 routes, which roughly lines up with what Dirt 3 had (including the Japan & Monte Carlo DLC). 70 routes have to go somewhere. they're not going to have 10 locations each with 7 different routes in one discipline. that is a terrible way to design a game, and is completely contrary to how Dirt 2 and 3 were set up - not a good start for a game that's trying to emulate their atmosphere and success. uh, they announced the game 3 days ago, on Thursday. Friday was a holiday, and Saturday and Sunday are what we call the weekend. or, as they say in france, le weekend. they've already put out a roadmap for all the announcements (lol @ that. how ridiculous.) so they already have a plan for when we find everything out. so we're going to have to wait. so for disciplines, here are some safe guesses + things we know: Sprint car racing (announced) Ice racing (announced) RX (obviously. and getting the Amplified edition gives you a free VW Beetle RX) Rally (obviously. also C3 R5 and Escort Cosworth are announced) Buggies (announced) my predictions (not super likely, but possible imo): something team-based. D2 and 3 had team-based things, and the game is supposed to enable 4 player split screen in career mode. Raid? (you get a Ford F150 for preordering. however, it could be a landrush car, or something else) Trailblazer? (2 RGT cars from DR2 were in the trailer) Landrush (same as Raid)

@Jake Cushing, as PJT mentioned in the letter, we won't hear anything soon from DR3, but at the same time confirmed it is in development. Don't expect anything till next year, because the rest of 2020 will be 80% DiRT 5, and the other 20% will be DiRT Rally 2.0 (eSports, possible the suprises what is mentioned in the letter, etc) Some details I found from here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1038250/DIRT_5/ Locations (a): "4 different terrains, but no asphalt it seems: "Blaze a trail on routes across the world, covering gravel, ice, snow and sand". Locations (b): 70+ unique routes Locations (c): 10 different global locations Cars (a): "with a roster of cars ranging from rally icons to trucks, to GT heroes" Cars (b): Pre-Order: Ford F-150 Raptor PreRunner by Deberti Design Cars (c): iconic rally cars Cars (d): 900bhp sprint cars (trailblazer?) Cars (e): "Rallycross, GT, trophy trucks, buggies muscle cars". Features (a): "Career, four-player split-screen, innovative online modes, livery editor and more new features" Features (b): "everchanging conditions" Features (c): CAREER: story-driven Career mode, Earn sponsorships and unique rewards Features (d): confirmation of split screen Career: "Local split-screen up to four players on offline modes, including Career" Features (e): Online goes from 8 to 12 players: "Online, throw down in curated race playlists for up to 12 players and compete in innovative objective-based modes." Features (f): Photo mode Features (g): Livery editor

If the trailer is anything to go by, I'm saying that's unlikely. But also from the blog: "The narrative features a voice cast led by the legendary Troy Baker and Nolan North" I'm tearing up. They aren't in a good place right now. I also don't know why them. I'm 100% sure Troy knows as much at cars and offroad motorsport as he does football. "partnered by the car culture heroes at Donut Media" Ugh. I hate to jump on the "dudebro" train, but that guy is rather obnoxious. Split screen is cool though, if only I had friends. Hope I can change the split direction like Grid...2 or Autosport? It's cool to have a second screen and give each their own. 70 different tracks sounds like there should be decent variety, as long it's not doing the DR thing and counting half tracks as their own location. Kind of sounds like this is what the Evo Studios guys have been working on since Onrush flopped.
-
yeah, looks like it won't have any official connection to the World RX Championship if there's only 10 locations. Dirt 4's was more than solid imo personally, I'm most excited to be able to play 4 player split screen (in career?!). it's going to have stage rallies. chill. why would they alienate the core fanbase of the series? they haven't shown anything about it because when you introduce a new game, you first want to show off what is new and interesting about it. stage rallies being in Dirt games is like parkour and Assassin's Creed: pretty much guaranteed (Showdown excepted, and look how well that did).

Glad to see that Turn 5 / 7 / 8 / 9 and Sector 3 have been changed to the better, compared to last year. Turn 11 is still way too steep and offcamber, compared to real life. Many Kerbs are still missing either a sausage Kerb or the triangle white zig zag lines on the green parts of the Kerbs (mostly exit Kerbs). Overall, a good step forward, but there's still room for improvement. @BarryBL, i got 5 questions to Codemasters: 1.) Was Turn 9 of Spain taken flatout in this video, at around a speed of 260+kmh, as in real life? (In reality, every single team, even Williams, was able to take Turn 3 and Turn 9 flatout during the Winter Testing of 2020, whilst Turn 9 was taken at speeds around of 256kmh - 271kmh) 2.) Are the cars now grippy and aerodynamiclly strong enough, to take fast corners in a stable manner? (In reality, all teams were planted in the fast corners, to the point that it looked completely effortless) 3.) Was this the Renault Engine Sound Bundle of the 2020 game? (I really like the new TV Audio Option with the split audio channels, 1 for the standard engine sound and 1 for the exhaust) 4.) I did not see Estrella Galicia on the McLaren. Will it be included on the livery anytime soon? (Singha, a beer company, has been in F1 2019 on the Alfa Romeo. So why is Estrella Galicia not in the game?) 5.) Will you add the Fuel Mix, Brake Bias and Differential to the ingame steering wheel screen anytime soon? (This would improve Cockpit Driving by a huge amount and would give players a more realistic and immersive experience, especially if we also get the option to fully turn off the MFD)

according to you they will keep the same as in F1 2014 in regards to the split screen. in theory they should keep everything then I don't know why they are the same producers of the game then they decide in the end. this was my idea
