Le Mans 24 Hours 2014

Cheers Matt for that :) Honestly though getting the Eurosport feed up on a screen with RLM playing through a laptop was still pretty good for me last year. I think you get the engine noises from the TV feed through RLM anyway with the much superior commentary. Plus get some of that multi screen action on the go, I had a nice setup of TV feed on my larger screen via a VGA cable from the laptop and timing on my laptop screen.  Also forgot to do a post about Garage 56... Give me 5 mins

3. Welcome to round five of the DiRT Rally Championship. This week we are heading to all around the world in the final stages and you have until Midnight on Tuesday 3rd June to submit your times - all stages must be ran from the Single Player > Time Trail menu and you can use any car within the set class. The running order is as follows: Stage 1: Trailblazer Michigan Lake Gratiot Classic Stage 2: Trailblazer Norway Vaaler Climb Classic Stage 3: Rally Finland Lankamaa Raid Stage 4 Rally Kenya Taveta descent open To submit your times simply post up the following info: Name: Team: Stage 1 Time: Stage 2 Time: Stage 3 Time: Stage 4 Time: Then include evidence of your time for each stage, this can be in form of a photo or video. To add a photo simply take a screenshot (F12 on Steam) of the final time screen (as seen below) via your PC or with your camera phone and upload it to somewhere on the internet (I would recommend imgur). Or you can tweet it to @dirtgame then just drop a link to the tweet with your results. THE RULES You can only post your results up once. You can not use mods or hacks. You can not edit your post or update your times (doing so will result in disqualification). So only submit once you are happy with them. You must provide evidence in either video or photographic form. You must load up events from the Time Trial menu only. You must submit your times by Midnight (UK time) on the 3rd June.

Le Mans 24 Hours 2014

Le Mans 24 Hours 2014 Thread As it's the annual Test Day for the 24 Hours of Le Mans this Sunday, I thought I'd start a thread for the race this year. Is anyone going to the race itself, or staying up to watch the whole thing (I tried last year, got to about 15 hours and had to take a tactical nap so I didn't miss the end)? For those who are perhaps not up to speed on how Le Mans works, basically its 4 races going on all at once on the same track for 24 hours straight. Pretty much every single car is fighting for something and not just the pride of not being last like Marussia and Caterham do in F1. This year has the potential to be one of the most memorable in recent years. Porsche are back in contention for overall victory for the first time since 1998 whilst Toyota look like having the best chance of breaking Audi's recent dominance of the event. The top cars are all brand new racers this year and have not done longer than a 6 hour race so reliability and keeping out of trouble will be key. So here is my run down of the classes, who to look out for, where the names you may recognise are and any other interesting nuggets that may be of interest. LMP1 ClassOk let's kick off with probably the most complicated yet interesting class. The LMP1 class is for the big-daddy's, the thoroughbreds, the cars that will be competing to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This class is split into two groups, the Lightweights and Heavyweights. The big difference between the two is that the Heavyweights are the hybrid vehicles which use KERS-style system and the Lightweights are the more conventional petrol-powered non-hybrid racers. The winner barring some real drama will be a Heavyweight. The LMP1-H class is made up of 7 cars from some of the biggest manufacturers in the world, Audi, Toyota and Porsche. Due to the freedom the regulations give the teams, each manufacturer has taken a totally different approach to making the hybrid sportscar prototype of the future. Teams are allowed to store either 2 Megajoules, 4MJ, 6MJ or 8MJ of electrical hybrid energy, which can be delivered however the manufacturers want. This has delivered a fascinating demonstration of modern day technology that is not only relevant to the road but also creates exciting racing. Audi have gone with an arguably conservative option for their R18 e-tron quattro, powered by a V6 Turbodiesel engine coupled with a 2MJ hybrid system equipped with a flywheel. Toyota and Porsche have both gone with cars with 6MJ hybrid systems but different engine setups and energy storage systems. Toyota have a V8 normal aspirated engine with super-capacitors to store their energy, with the capability of temporary 4WD by adding a set of super-capacitors to the front axle. Porsche meanwhile have gone with a V4 Turbo petrol engine with F1-style battery storage for their energy solution. For me F1 and its restrictive rules set should really take a look at what the World Endurance Championship is doing here, the level of creativity, innovation and relevant findings to the road industry is way ahead of what F1 is currently doing with its V6 Turbo's, and the racing the arguably better as well, with no DRS, no need for 2 compounds of tyre and the freedom for teams and drivers to do what they want, when they want.  Audi return to Le Mans as reigning winners with 3 cars headed up by the #1 car which includes Tom Kristensen, Le Mans legend, looking for his 10th victory at the Circuit de la Sarthe. As ever Audi have very strong lineups in all 3 cars which are each capable of winning overall. Avid F1 fans will remember the name of Lucas Di Grassi who shares the #1 with Kristensen and Loic Duval. Di Grassi replaces Allan McNish in the car which is also the reigning FIA World Endurance Championship winner. Audi have struggled in the first two races of the WEC on sheer pace but their German efficiency and tactical know-how made sure they scored a podium at the 6 Hours of Spa earlier this spring. Don't count Audi out just yet, after all to finish first, first you have to finish, and that is something Audi have always been good at. Toyota are arguably the favourites for Le Mans this year having won the first 2 rounds of the WEC in some style. Toyota's 2 car effort is full of the top talent in sportscar racing with former F1 drivers Anthony Davidson and Sebastian Buemi alongside Nicolas Lapierre in the #8 TS040 (current FIA WEC leaders) and a full trio of ex-F1 drivers in the #7 with former Benetton and Williams driver Alex Wurz, long time Toyota protege Kaz Nakajima and one-time Minardi racer Stephane Sarrazin. As has been said Toyota have won the first 2 races and would love to make it 3 with the big one, but this is Le Mans and anything can happen especially reliability wise with Toyota's reliance on a high tariff of energy usage potentially an Achilles heel. The big plus for this car's design though is it's acceleration out of the corners, outputting up to almost 1000bhp at full boost, this thing shifts and not much can keep up with it. Last but not least for Porsche who return to the top class at Le Mans with the Porsche 919 Hybrid. Two cars travel to Le Mans, the #14 and #20. F1 fans will eagerly want to see how Mark Webber does in the #20 who himself returns to the 24 Hours for the first time since 1999 when he drove for Mercedes-Benz. Fans of the race will no doubt remember the horrific crashes that Mark suffered, flipping over twice during practice and the warm-up due to a fault with the aero of the Benz. The safety improvements to both the cars and the circuit should ensure that they will be no repeat of such an accident. The race win may be a bit of a stretch for Porsches in what is still their first year back, however don't be surprised if the Porsche are right up there battling for the lead in the early stages, just as Toyota did on their return to Le Mans 2 years ago. Of the LMP1-L entrants, only two remain, the privateer entries from Rebellion Racing who come with their own car for the first time. The Rebellion is a thing of beauty in my eyes, and it sounds great too. The car is still very much a baby so getting to the finish would be a truly great accomplishment in itself, but as a team they have shown in the past that they are capable of being a nuisance to Audi and Toyota so monitor their progress. Another long time F1 driver appears here with Nick Heidfeld heading up the #12 alongside son of Alain, Nicolas Prost and reigning GP2 champion Fabio Leimer in the #13, a testament to the appeal of Le Mans and the WEC to the young drivers of today.

The Game Thread!

Personally I didn't enjoy the Live the Life style. Just felt too fake, and like a giant loading screen. The interviews would be good if they meant something, but they didn't. Being able to add a more personal touch to your driver is something that would improve the career mode. Podium would be interesting. Commentary in any sports game is dire and is just a waste of space. Anyway, the most important part of an F1 game, or any racing game, is the actual on track. None of the games have ever kept me interested because the driving and racing has been lacking. FFB has been bad, especially in 2013 I didn't feel at all connected to the car and it took me ages to get my wheel even set up to close to feeling right. Getting the weather system to work, the AI to work, the tyre wear, fuel loads, car set-ups, etc. Get all of it to work properly first then worry about adding fancy stuff on. All the Live the Life career modes with pointless add-ons like walking around the paddock and talking to Eddie Jordan are meaningless unless the driving and racing are good. But maybe that's just how my priorities are.

Grid Autosport Review

My 1st 15 hours with Grid Autosport. How did I get access to this you ask? Here's the shortish version.I'd just upgraded and sent my old parts to a friend who is currently out of work in Greece. Hi Miatakias :D He NEEDED to upgrade and no-one I knew wanted the bits. So off they went.He fitted them but after he installed his current GFX card drivers he got blank screen. Nothing we tried fixed it nor did any suggestions from these forums or others. Then I stumbled on an official 5 month old thread on their site saying a fix is still weeks away.Having 2 AMD 6970's on the go and a pair of replacements planned, I decided to send him one of my 6970's as well. For me it meant playing half speed for a while but at least I COULD play. Loore had sent me a message and asked me about Miatakias' problem, I told him the above story and that the GFX card was going soon. Miatakias was over the moon with the parts when we got them running and asked if I was going to buy GAS? if so he wanted to buy it for me as thank you for the parts I'd sent. I contacted Loore later to let him know all was now ok with the PC and how Miatakias reacted, I got this back."Loore May 10Tell him not to buy your copy, I've got it covered :) Consider it a reward for helping make the GRID community a better place."Cool, a freebe for bein a nice guy and helping someone out :) To my surprise, when Loore contacted me again. He supplied me with a passcode for the game plus the access to the press preview levels and cars we've seen in vids. Stroll on!All hush, hush till now so here goes...A week with Grid Autosport. 16 hours played and tested as I write this and upload some eyefinity vids. 1st off. The big one... The handling, Is it any good? Did they listen to all the whining we did? Ooooohhh yes, it's good, VERY good, and yes again, they did listen to us fans of old and acted on it (or most of it so far?).FINALLY! After years of waiting, we get a trueblooded, direct descendant of Grids epic gameplay. Grippy cars on tarmac that you need to DRIVE to succeed. Slide any race car about like you had to in Grid 2 and you'll fail at the first corner. Driving Autosport right on the limits of speed vs grip round Istanbul Park intermediate and the old grey matter started fizzing again, those Grid ingrained responses to what I was seeing on screen and feeling through the wheel took over and the Grin was back. The assists are of the same style as Grid 1, where turning them off made every car soo much harder to control leading to slower lap times. Paradoxically though turning off the assists in GAS lead to the opposite, better times than I got when they were on. I might have been fighting with the stability control instead of letting it do its job here.Precise throttle control is critical for success but you reap the rewards for such restraint. so analogue controllers or wheels will do well, no idea regarding KB as I never had much in the way of KB skills to start with. Bear in mind this is press preview and not full release. Only 4GBs it's just the core game elements I'm playing with. I'm playing on this lot.  AMD 9590 @5GHz, Asus Sabretooth Rev 2, 16GB DDR3 @2133MHz, Sapphire 8GB R9 290X all running 3 screens @ 5932x1080 maxxed out GFX, AA, AF settings etc with 50 fps as a minimum. Using my old and trusted DFGT wheel for the tricky bits. So Here's some vids of the basic career modes, Most are in eyefinity taken using fraps and saved using windows live movie maker.  1st up, Touring cars Istanbul Park Intermediate. The racing is just as much fun as the original Grid was for me. trading paint with a bit of shoulder barging here and there, got slapped by the corner cut system, so that works. The "x5 race" option made for same fun racing over 15 or 20 laps but be warned, In 1 event  I lead from pole and no contact with the AI cars, I lost 5th gear all the rest were fine this made the last 2 laps  somewhat interesting. http://youtu.be/_XcgMprvQYg Street Racing, Washington in the Mini Cooper S Works Trying to get the "lift off" corners just right was soo much fun. as was trying to get clean passes. I DID manage a complete race with no contact in this class but it was hard to get, you'll see why.... http://youtu.be/2P4_-BDfidU Drift Tuner, An essential for myself and a few others around here. Ruined in Grid 2 with tea tray on ice handling, Drift's back to the circuits (or 1 at least in the preview) Tracks are split into "Score sectors" so no multilap chains of drifts scaring off all but the pro's.Precise control inputs are a must here if you want to look like a pro You can still hoon it like a BOSS with style and get points, I'm off for some much needed practice....;D  http://youtu.be/HgFNrsVQjNA Open Wheel, Yas Marina (and dodgy cockpit view) Slipstreaming is back just a shame the cockpit view looks like it's "unfinished" or an "afterthought"  at best and so it's of no practical use to the headcam, hud off players. The mirrors are like impresionist black and white paintings of the skyline behind you. Like a tiny wee policeman pops up wherever you look saying "Nothing to see here, move along..." This has to be unfinished or the Modders got some work to do again....Again though, it's only the press preview surely it'll be better for launch day http://youtu.be/bg79ms19tGo Endurance, be careful, this category bites.... No pit stops. Tyre wear in Grid? HUH? Well much as I wouldn't have missed it, it does add a big tactical element to your driving. In an 8 minute race grip dissapears like an ice cube in a volcano, I kid you not.1st try, I shot off into the blue, by the end of a lap I shredded 20% in less than 1:30 and had none for the end. You really neeed to nurse the tyres as on the 2nd try I used only 6% in one lap and still won the race albeit with 30 and 32% left of the rear tyres. Pit stops would help here but it's about tyre management instead of outright speed. http://youtu.be/mn1sr0ca4HI As I said above it's the core of the game here and no where near complete, though with the way it handles, looks and plays right now I would be buying a copy without a shadow of a doubt. Ferreted about in the mp section and found a few gems when looking at tracks,You might wanna add to the confirmed track list RallyDriven :) http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/289/grid-autosport-confirmed-cars-tracks-features/p1Autodromo Do AlgarveIndianapolisOkutamaHong KongRed Bull RingAutosport Raceway Barcelonaaaaaand SPAAAA!!! No other tracks/locations listed and no cars as a load is still locked in career mode or limited by it being in essence an abridged and unfinished version.  If I find out there's more to it between now and launch I'll keep you posted while I work on some more vids.
10. I hope it's been removed for Autosport. Whenever you smash into another driver, strange garbage momentarily appeared on the screen. First time I though my game was faulty. Please tell me this has been removed as a 'feature' because it looked a lot like a failing of the graphics engine they could not sort out in time for release of Grid 2.

Youtube

I used GRID2's youtube function, and the quality of the video is extremely poor.   I have better quality videos from recording the screen with a phone cam.  Why is the quality so poor?  Is it youtube setting?

Anything new this week?

Would like to see how the Multiplayer menu section works. first, please confirm that there is a lobby and servers are browse-able. thx. Assuming the above is a posotive answer, whats important to me is stuff like; How is a server named...after the host?..or after the discipline?..both?..or something else? How many servers can we see at a time? If say there are 100 servers running and only 20 servers are visible at one time, can i scroll to the others? Can we filter the servers listed without having to go back to the main screen? Can we see server ping from lobby? What other server settings are visible from the lobby. as ever, apologies if this info is buried elsewhere 8P

The PC Thread

@AMS97KRR It would be a straight swap, but I really wouldn't recommend either of them. Neither is certified, and as far as I can tell the CiT is only 30 amps split over 2 rails. It has a 6 pin PCI-E but I honestly wuldn't trust that to power a GPU properly. I wouldn't trust that PSU to do anything properly. The best thing for you to do, spend about £9 extra on one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-500B-BRONZE-Power-Supply/dp/B00DZ6R9GE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401112101&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+500w It's 80+ Bronze rated, has 40 amps on a single rail, has more SATA power links, and has 2x 6 pin PCI-E. So if you decided to go higher than the 7750 (which I don't think needs a 6 pin anyway) you'd be sorted. Most cards above the 7750 will need at least one 6 pin. Plus EVGA are well known for high quality products, CiT stuff looks flashy, but it's really not great in the end.Best way to put it, EVGA are Waitrose, CiT is Lidl. Oh and one other thing, what motherboard do you have? If you did go with the CiT one, it only has a 4 pin 12v cable. The Coolermaster you're replacing has a 4+4 12v. So if your motherboard needs the 4+4 then that CiT PSU wouldn't do the job.

Race Driver: GRID 6 years on

Grid was a cool game. Nice SP and overall entertaining MP. I remember very specially the fact It was really well optimized on PC, much better than Dirt, which was problematic when there were many cars on screen (rallycross, rallyraid, etc). Glad all those incompatibilities and the many problems with sound that plagued earlier versions of the ego engine got solved quickly on Grid. Grid simply ran like ice cream on PC. I want the same again, with some support for the already jurassic (though still powerful) nvidia 8800 series. Some optimization for these cards one last time before soket 775 dies at long last would be some juicy news indeed.

What do you want in F1 2014? GAME IDEAS

I actually like most of the before mentioned ideas, so I won't repeat them. I'd like to see an option to disable the five red lights that pop up in the upper middle of your screen before starting a race. I'd also like to see the flag signals in that area to be moved to all the Marshall posts and digiflags (which are, as of now, only used when SC is on track). Marshalls should also show the SC board.
16. After watching my fav race, the Monaco Grand Prix this morning I fired up F1 2001 on my 55 inch screen, and using a Thrustmaster Hotas X that I originally bought for my flight sims, I was surprised to get a 23.2, which is only perhaps 2 seconds off the leaders in the real race with all the new drivetrain and energy recovery electronics that of course aren't figured into the 2011 version!  That's the best I ever did! Now a couple of questions.  I used to use a Microsoft Precision Pro stick for racing before I got this new stick, and one thing a really liked was the fact that I could use one of the 4 buttons laid out on its base for braking and reverse.  For some reason it almost felt as if it worked like a real brake pedal, providing graduated braking in a way I've not ever been able to match on any other stick's buttons!  On my Thrustmaster there's not even a button on the stick or the throttle side bases low and responsive enough to use for braking so I either have to use the pull-back-on-the-stick method or one of the throttle buttons which are all uncomfortably high for me!  So right now I'm using the #5 or #7 buttons on the throttle side to handle my braking! I know there's very little I can do about this situation but I was wondering if the next version of F1 set up for the 2014 season will first be setup as a sim with all the new changes brought to F1 racing this year, second, if there is anyway a braking control can be made that really provides graduated braking other than by having to use the stick to do so.  Also, what other changes do I have to look forward to, and when is it planned to be released? I'm really happy to have found this forum, and if everything goes well in the next version I hope to find an MP racing league as well!  But in the meantime I greatly appreciate any response!

Flashbacks......AGAIN

Seems like a rock and a hard place to me. If you don't allow then maybe not enough people will want to carry on playing the game online and learn enough not to use flashbacks. On the other hand if you do allow by making the custom room then you don't get people feeding into the custom rooms. My guess is though that if you enter racing leagues etc you can find enough people to go into the custom rooms right ? And if you race in playlists you can contact the people who race the way you want and get them to move into the custom rooms as well ? To me the base level should be as inclusive as possible, and then groups such as hardcore split off from that ? I think it is worthwhile giving the game ago as stands at the moment and then asking for mods if it isn't seen to be working. To me getting more people into the game is important thing and if flashback helps that then it is a good thing, because the guy using a flahback today might be the guy giving you an exciting no flashback race in 2 months time.

Flashbacks......AGAIN

Remember that Flashbacks are not the only thing that determines how a race will play out online. GRID 2 had a very different handling model, different reactions to collisions, split routes on the city circuits, a more severe off-track penalty system. All of these things and more made GRID 2's online what it was - things that are different in Autosport. You may well find that because of the changes between the games, the inclusion of flashbacks doesn't have the same detrimental effect that you found in GRID 2. And as ever, once the game is out and people are actually playing with the new system, the designers will be keeping an eye on things and listening to the feedback, and they'll go from there.
20. RTAnoskills

Flashbacks......AGAIN

You have to remember that for the most part everyone will pile into playlists and not everyone is a great driver,As has always been the way.  Nothing wrong with that.  We have to give people a helping hand along the way or sooner or later you're going to run out of drivers to race against. That is absolute nonsense.  You gave people 5 helping hands, and GRID2 was killed after 2 weeks.  Most of the decent "racers" left and didnt look back,  Flashback nonsense.   The experience needs to be a race not a ram fest with flashbacks. Grid 1 - no flashbacks, and still people play on xbox live today, right now.  Get rid of the flashbacks and sooner or later I will run out of noobs to wreck. Some people might not be as naturally gifted at racing games as you are, Awwww you noticed...........:D  That has nothing to do with flashbacks.  I had to start somewhere.  I was a noob myself once.  Not for long tho, as I dont play lots of different games at the same time, 1 racer, and 1 FPS.  To quote Gor " all newcomers have right for study from veterans, like it was for me in grid 1: learn track and traectories, learn cornering, learn braking, learn to avoid crash, learn racing etiquette." some might not know the track, That is their problem, I will not know all of the tracks on day 1, It takes time to learn the tracks. That is how you get better.  I can see a corner coming up, and know I have to brake somewhere.  while others may have a small blip of concentration.  Well these people will have a large amount of damage done to their vehicle, should their small blip in concentration ruin my race/car.  Thankyou for commenting Loore, however  I still feel you should just leave them out of the online playlists, then people who need them can go into custom cups.  Just out of interest, the flashback in Grid 2, had a slight delay,  I could be about to hit someone on my screen, hit flashback before any impact happens on my screen, but then when im back on track, I can see that my car actually nailed the car I tried to avoid.   I dont think many people realise there is a delay.  That delay needs to be removed,  but preferably flashbacks removed altoghter from online play.   Your trying to give people the experience of being in a race car, in a race,  well guess what.....racing involves winning, overtaking, braking, steering, and also sometimes crashing.   When you crash, you may wreck your car a bit, or totally, leaving you either limping around the track, or spectating.   Its all part of the fun, the experience.   You cannot appreciate winning, untill you appreciate losing.  Flashbacks have no place in a "credible" racing game.  :)

What you want to see from GRID

But text chat was there for the original PC GRID, was there for PC DIRT 2, can't confirm text chat for PC DIRT 3 ( there should be someone here that can confirm text chat for DIRT 3 ). Codemasters use to cater to the PC online player, but lately not so much it seem. Little old Bugbear studio with only 30 devs, knows how to cater to PC players, we got text chat confirm even defore Bugbear release there first Build for there new racing\ derby game last December: Got Multiplayer?
October 25, 2013 During the summer and fall, we’ve been implementing a new lobby system. You’ll have a lobby browser and filters for finding the game you like, or you can of course create your own. Lobby and in-game (and loading screen too, cool!) text chat is already implemented, and a possibility of implementing a voice chat is being investigated. Don’t worry, if voice does get included, there will be an option to toggle it so you don’t have to fear hearing who did what with your mother last night. But then again, I’m just speculating since our community knows how to behave, doesn’t it?
But they probably will block someone ? XD Imagine this scenario Loore, which is going to happen many times to many autosport players : - race starts as normal with everyone holding position through corner 1. - players form a single conga line heading for corner 2, lead car goes way off track before corner 2 ignoring it completly taking a large advantage in time over the 2nd placed car. - lead car rejoins track still in 1st position but receives corner cut penalty - reduced speed and ghost form. - the players in 2nd 3rd and 4th position decide to drive through the now penalized ghosting lead car, with the conga line following closely on optimum racing line. so my question is this Loore : at what point does the ghost car become solid ? does it spawn in mid pack infront of people who had no idea a slow moving car would "spawn" infront of them, causing pile ups + spins, forcing them to use flashbacks? No doubt ghosting a car receiving a corner cut penalty in autosport is an improvement on the Grid2 sudden brick wall car penalty, which led to instant pile ups and frustration for everyone behind the car receiving the penalty (especially more so in hardcore), it remains imo a very poor way to penalise anyone during gameplay, because more often than not it will have a negative gaming experience on usually more than one players who are unable to avoid becoming involved with the result of the car receiving the penalty that is moving at an unrealistic and extremely slow speed.  Anyone that played grid2 for long enough will have experienced such frustrating situations - turning into an upcoming corner with good speed only to have an extemely slow moving car "spawn" right beside your car - causing you both to slam into the upcoming corner - which caused any amount of cars following closely to also become involved in an unavoidable pile up at the corner. This process is then hillariously repeated as multiple flashbacks are used by the players involved at the initial pile up and players who were further at the back of the pack receive this group of "spawning" cars around them, who are almost forced to use flashbacks themselves through no fault of their own as cars spawn around them mid corner. It is really not uncommen for just 1 player to make a mistake and receive a corner cut penalty or use a flashback to force everyone else to do likewise. Grid2 had many problems, one of them was frustrating gameplay from such situations. I have played long enough to see many groups of friends joining games together at low level and leaving together mid race, after cursing at the game mechanics. The bottom line for you at Codemasters is such frustrated players will rarely stick around long enough to buy the inevitable 3:99euro McLaren P1 DLC :p So what are the alternatives? how about players receiving a "dirty tyre" icon on screen after they go off track, the longer they stay off track, the longer the duration that this penalty persists - which causes lack of traction in corners and reduced acceleration and top speed as the wheels fail to grip. Going off track for 2 - 3 seconds and the dirty tyres penalty could last around half a lap. An off track trip of 4 - 6 seconds and the player could receive such a penalty for 1 lap duration until the tyres clean themselves up, as they do in real life, as long as they remain on track. Players who continuously corner cut, or continue to stay off track could receive this penalty multiple times which would also stack, "encouraging" the player to stay on track in future. I understand that some tracks will not always have grass and earth around the track such as yas marina, but this penalty could be explained as running offtrack into dirty tarmac areas that have rubber "marbles" that we see in formula1 / indycar etc, resulting in the same "dirty tyres" penalty. Perhaps this could be described as "unrealistic" but it is far more realistic than what is being proposed for autosport, which has Harry Potter waving his wand at flashbacking / corner cutting penalized cars and casting the spell "makeus invisableus" and Hermoine casting "makeus solidus" a few seconds later :p

Yes, they are split in classes.

Are these split into some sort of categories, like the touring cars are? I see some Euro/World GT cars, some Japanese Super GT cars, and 4 varied ones at the end... will it be Mazda 787B versus newer cars, or are those classics in a different category?

Could there be oval tracks?

Codemasters threw IndyCars in there with no knowledge of the series they were representing. One oval will not cut it. That's what the split was about, remember? It would not be difficult to get a non NASCAR owned oval that IndyCar runs, such as the Milwaukee Mile or Pocono, then you could have a true IndyCar series....but Nooooo.
