Q&A Thread - Part 2

Hi @Loore. Q: Will GAS register and show the fastest lap / PB clocked on a particular circuit with a particular car as Race Driver GRID used to in the Race Day screen? If so, will it work for Online as well? Q: I suppose we will be able to apply sponsors to the online liveries we create. Will GAS give us freedom of choice like GRID 2 or will the sponsors "contracts" have to be earned? How many sponsors will we be able to apply to a single livery?

What do you want in F1 2014? GAME IDEAS

Oh yes, and also: 5. Notifications at the top of the screen a la F1GP series: "<insert driver here> is out of the race" when AI retires, and, of course the ability to replay and see what happened to the retired AI car and ride on-board and see it from the spectator's point of view as well. 6. As has been mentioned, the ability to drive the warm-up lap if desired. It doesn't have to be compulsory, but should be a choice. Basically, if Codemasters just follow the Crammond formula in addition to the great work they did with their previous titles and make it more of a sim it'll be a winner, and potentially the greatest F1 game ever made.  Codemasters, you REALLY NEED TO TAKE NOTE HERE OF WHAT THE FANS WANT. These things really need to be implemented this time around if you want F1 2014 to be an actual, proper F1 game. Remember what happened the last time you guys didn't listen to what your fans wanted in a game? You ended up making the game again. Get it right this time with F1 2014.
  4. Started with Lotus but have now gained a seat at RedBull after Hungary. Now thinking of restarting but think I may end up having the same results as you!! ;) Well I always like d challenging starting at the back n working my way into a mclaren n winning the wdc and wcc... But 100% races r a killer, can't keep my concentration for that long, Man being in a RedBull will just be walking it... U must be winning steady.... That's why I started again! Man loosing my battle with guttierez. Just before Abu Dhabi, the rival screen disappears I was sad, no potential move to sauber again. And guess wot happens after the race, I get an offer from sauber.... Can't wait for season two to start.... Current ly in Austin.... Not feeling the 1st sector at all....

    Voice attack with Autosport

Just set it up with shift 2 unleashed and I can tell you it works much better than taking your eye off the screen to hunt for a keystroke, or waste a button. And anything you have a key press for, you can map. There is almost no delay. The program is tiny and uses absolutely no resources as it uses the speech recognition files from windows 7

Hahahahaha . . . when I press play nothing happens except a message in the middle of the video screen saying: "This video is private" . . . ~O)

    The Game Thread!

Personally I didn't enjoy the Live the Life style. Just felt too fake, and like a giant loading screen. The interviews would be good if they meant something, but they didn't. Being able to add a more personal touch to your driver is something that would improve the career mode. Podium would be interesting. Commentary in any sports game is dire and is just a waste of space. Anyway, the most important part of an F1 game, or any racing game, is the actual on track. None of the games have ever kept me interested because the driving and racing has been lacking. FFB has been bad, especially in 2013 I didn't feel at all connected to the car and it took me ages to get my wheel even set up to close to feeling right. Getting the weather system to work, the AI to work, the tyre wear, fuel loads, car set-ups, etc. Get all of it to work properly first then worry about adding fancy stuff on. All the Live the Life career modes with pointless add-ons like walking around the paddock and talking to Eddie Jordan are meaningless unless the driving and racing are good. But maybe that's just how my priorities are.

    Youtube

I used GRID2's youtube function, and the quality of the video is extremely poor.   I have better quality videos from recording the screen with a phone cam.  Why is the quality so poor?  Is it youtube setting?

    Anything new this week?

Would like to see how the Multiplayer menu section works. first, please confirm that there is a lobby and servers are browse-able. thx. Assuming the above is a posotive answer, whats important to me is stuff like; How is a server named...after the host?..or after the discipline?..both?..or something else? How many servers can we see at a time? If say there are 100 servers running and only 20 servers are visible at one time, can i scroll to the others? Can we filter the servers listed without having to go back to the main screen? Can we see server ping from lobby? What other server settings are visible from the lobby. as ever, apologies if this info is buried elsewhere 8P

Race Driver: GRID 6 years on

Grid was a cool game. Nice SP and overall entertaining MP. I remember very specially the fact It was really well optimized on PC, much better than Dirt, which was problematic when there were many cars on screen (rallycross, rallyraid, etc). Glad all those incompatibilities and the many problems with sound that plagued earlier versions of the ego engine got solved quickly on Grid. Grid simply ran like ice cream on PC. I want the same again, with some support for the already jurassic (though still powerful) nvidia 8800 series. Some optimization for these cards one last time before soket 775 dies at long last would be some juicy news indeed.

What do you want in F1 2014? GAME IDEAS

I actually like most of the before mentioned ideas, so I won't repeat them. I'd like to see an option to disable the five red lights that pop up in the upper middle of your screen before starting a race. I'd also like to see the flag signals in that area to be moved to all the Marshall posts and digiflags (which are, as of now, only used when SC is on track). Marshalls should also show the SC board.

What you want to see from GRID

But text chat was there for the original PC GRID, was there for PC DIRT 2, can't confirm text chat for PC DIRT 3 ( there should be someone here that can confirm text chat for DIRT 3 ). Codemasters use to cater to the PC online player, but lately not so much it seem. Little old Bugbear studio with only 30 devs, knows how to cater to PC players, we got text chat confirm even defore Bugbear release there first Build for there new racing\ derby game last December: Got Multiplayer?
October 25, 2013 During the summer and fall, we’ve been implementing a new lobby system. You’ll have a lobby browser and filters for finding the game you like, or you can of course create your own. Lobby and in-game (and loading screen too, cool!) text chat is already implemented, and a possibility of implementing a voice chat is being investigated. Don’t worry, if voice does get included, there will be an option to toggle it so you don’t have to fear hearing who did what with your mother last night. But then again, I’m just speculating since our community knows how to behave, doesn’t it?
Autosport Corner Cutting

But they probably will block someone ? XD Imagine this scenario Loore, which is going to happen many times to many autosport players : - race starts as normal with everyone holding position through corner 1. - players form a single conga line heading for corner 2, lead car goes way off track before corner 2 ignoring it completly taking a large advantage in time over the 2nd placed car. - lead car rejoins track still in 1st position but receives corner cut penalty - reduced speed and ghost form. - the players in 2nd 3rd and 4th position decide to drive through the now penalized ghosting lead car, with the conga line following closely on optimum racing line. so my question is this Loore : at what point does the ghost car become solid ? does it spawn in mid pack infront of people who had no idea a slow moving car would "spawn" infront of them, causing pile ups + spins, forcing them to use flashbacks? No doubt ghosting a car receiving a corner cut penalty in autosport is an improvement on the Grid2 sudden brick wall car penalty, which led to instant pile ups and frustration for everyone behind the car receiving the penalty (especially more so in hardcore), it remains imo a very poor way to penalise anyone during gameplay, because more often than not it will have a negative gaming experience on usually more than one players who are unable to avoid becoming involved with the result of the car receiving the penalty that is moving at an unrealistic and extremely slow speed.  Anyone that played grid2 for long enough will have experienced such frustrating situations - turning into an upcoming corner with good speed only to have an extemely slow moving car "spawn" right beside your car - causing you both to slam into the upcoming corner - which caused any amount of cars following closely to also become involved in an unavoidable pile up at the corner. This process is then hillariously repeated as multiple flashbacks are used by the players involved at the initial pile up and players who were further at the back of the pack receive this group of "spawning" cars around them, who are almost forced to use flashbacks themselves through no fault of their own as cars spawn around them mid corner. It is really not uncommen for just 1 player to make a mistake and receive a corner cut penalty or use a flashback to force everyone else to do likewise. Grid2 had many problems, one of them was frustrating gameplay from such situations. I have played long enough to see many groups of friends joining games together at low level and leaving together mid race, after cursing at the game mechanics. The bottom line for you at Codemasters is such frustrated players will rarely stick around long enough to buy the inevitable 3:99euro McLaren P1 DLC :p So what are the alternatives? how about players receiving a "dirty tyre" icon on screen after they go off track, the longer they stay off track, the longer the duration that this penalty persists - which causes lack of traction in corners and reduced acceleration and top speed as the wheels fail to grip. Going off track for 2 - 3 seconds and the dirty tyres penalty could last around half a lap. An off track trip of 4 - 6 seconds and the player could receive such a penalty for 1 lap duration until the tyres clean themselves up, as they do in real life, as long as they remain on track. Players who continuously corner cut, or continue to stay off track could receive this penalty multiple times which would also stack, "encouraging" the player to stay on track in future. I understand that some tracks will not always have grass and earth around the track such as yas marina, but this penalty could be explained as running offtrack into dirty tarmac areas that have rubber "marbles" that we see in formula1 / indycar etc, resulting in the same "dirty tyres" penalty. Perhaps this could be described as "unrealistic" but it is far more realistic than what is being proposed for autosport, which has Harry Potter waving his wand at flashbacking / corner cutting penalized cars and casting the spell "makeus invisableus" and Hermoine casting "makeus solidus" a few seconds later :p

Why no dedicated Formula D / D1GP game, Codies?

Nice idea but as Cheesnium says, highly unlikely due to licensing issues and lack of general interest etc. Like you I loved grid 1 drift, spent many, many hours drifting with friends online, I even joined a Grid 1 drift team, all because of grid 1. Then along came the Mount Haruna drift mod which replaced Lemans track with the full touge track and the LMP cars with drift cars.http://youtu.be/8z2yAfhVYZo Grid 1 drift was why I went for a triple screen setup in the long run (soo much easier to avoid a crash when you can see outta the side windows :)

    "Next" DiRT game wishlist!

A key feature that should be in next Dirt, would be the ability to save full replay videos to your hard drive in avi or mp4, so you could then edit the video outside the game and post it to youtube or other video sharing site. The implementation in Dirt 3 was rather poor with the limited length and terrible quality the videos were outputed at.I want the video at the native resolution you play at, in my case 1080p so it looks as good in the video as when I am watching it in game. This feature would make it a lot easier not having to bother with screen capture software, or external recording cards or devices to get a crisp video for upload.
  21. Ok I recieved a GFWL troubleshooting link from codies email support and will be able to try with changes made to my router. IE Opened some ports for GFWL. I think I had this setup b4 but have had several updates to router firmware and software since then.. It may have blown those settings out of the water. Hope this works. Thanks again cougar1981. Well following changes to my router, firewall and port forwarding settings per email from codemaster support I am sad to report that there is no change. The minute I click the online button in the game my FPS drops to 12-10 and screen starts to stutter. Will reply to support and see if they have anything else for me to try.

    Online Racing & Vehicle Progression

But Grid 1 was circuit based, even in spectate there was no lap counter and if you started spectate at the first lap of 12 on Spa (15 minute wait) you wouldn't know where you were timewise, someone usually let the speccy's know the lap and count. But hey it was good to spectate while waiting than having absolutely no clue as to race standing. Well, atleast you could have something to do instead of just sitting there watching at text, watching a race = fun. watching a non moving screen with some text on it = not fun which instantly leads to re searching for lobbies over and over. It's a real bummer but it's one of the reasons i'll probably skip this one (along with the non working dash/rearview mirrors and blurred out/low poly cockpit, no replay saving alongside online replays(?), text chat(?), oh and full control of a weather and day/night setting), even if they show laps in the lobby its not enough imo. But we'll see how it pans out at release as it looks really good aside from those things, which is a shame cuz its things i value pretty high. I mean its freaking fun to join in and just watch some of your friends battle it out once in a while :P.

    Autosport Tuning setups

I dont and wont use in car view.  Its just too restrictive on what you can see. Unless you have a 3 screen setup and the game supports that.  But I agree, if in car view is back, then these people need working mirrors. Otherwise some people will say "sorry, didnt see you there bro....no mirrors"   Well sorry isnt going to fix my wrecked car. No flashbacks onlineIn car view with mirrorsability to save replaysability to save multiple tune setups for same car.Random grid order online Simplez.   :D
