Team Meeting 13/01/2016 - Patches, Testing and More!

Recommended Posts

As some of you may, or may not know, today was our first catch-up meeting of 2016 in Birmingham. If you’re not aware what this is all about, every other Wednesday we get together in the Birmingham studios in order to catch up, take stock of what we’re all doing, how we’re going to be moving forward and all that kind of stuff. Personally, I get to have the luxury of a massive Morrisons next door I can buy armfuls of food from, but that’s for another time!

As you’d expect being the first meeting back after the festive period there was quite a lot to talk about:

Patches

Yesterday I told you I’d be able to give you an update on the Xbox One patch. Unfortunately, during testing, an issue was found with saving mid-session. The problem has been fixed, but I’ll be able to give you a better update as things get clearer with regards to re-submitting to Microsoft.  Know this is disappointing, but once the issue was discovered, we couldn’t release it to you guys with it in. Once everything’s been confirmed I’ll post up the patch notes for you all as well.

This issue was also found in the upcoming PC patch, though this has been fixed too. Getting the Xbox One patch out is our priority at the moment, but both the PC Patch and the PS4 patch are hot on the heels of the Xbox One patch.

Events

We’ve been taking advantage of Sony’s ‘Events’ feature on PS4 and running some interesting scenarios for you all to get your teeth into.  Events are carrying on into this year, and all we’re going to say is... keep an eye on them!  ;)

If you’ve not heard of PlayStation events, you can find out more here

F1 2016 Testing

We’ve been quiet on testing so far. Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten and it’s still going to go ahead, with a few extra nice surprises too ;)! We’ve been talking non-stop about testing internally, and what we have decided is to put back our original estimates from the end of January/beginning of February to March. This is just so that you guys get the best out of the build, so everything is going ahead as planned... just slightly later than we first announced!  We’ve got a lot planned and we can’t wait to share it :D!

We’ll be revealing more in the coming weeks!

As a complete aside, this was the view this morning from the Birmingham studio. The sun decided to grace us with its presence!

We're sorry it's been delayed, but the alternative is to release it with issues present.

Well I've held off for a longtime,u take our money and let us down again and again and again! At the end of a day I'm a gamer who can't play a franchise I love, fed up of having a Carrott dangled infront of me,how can we get excited about any exciting news u may or may not tell us,I'm sure it will get delayed aswell! Maybe my use of language was inappropriate but it just proves you lot just avoid the truth, why not answer to me venting about the lack of info or the fact I've ditched your game for a competitor??
Quite frankly it's disgusting

@jennyannem Are you aware how big the online problems for PS4 have become since the previous patch? We just started a new league season, but it's become pretty much impossible to finish any online session: during practice we all got the blue-screen error, so we had to restart the game and make a new lobby. We were able to finish qualifying and started the race, but we all got  ''kicked from session'' after only 10 laps. We restarted the race in another new lobby, but after 51 laps, we all got kicked out of the session again.. It's like this nearly every time, and it's completely random.. Could you please at least tell us if these problems are being worked on?

We're sorry for the delay. Like I said, I know it's disappointing, but the alternative is to release with issues in.  For obvious reasons, hopefully you can see that we don't want to do that!

In terms of information, after reading that you know almost just as much as I do on the subject of patches. I promise nothing is being withheld or twisted.  There's no secret. We're waiting to hear if we can just swap the fixes in, or whether we have to re-submit entirely. The result of this means that it could be either a few days, or a week and a half, or perhaps longer. Maybe I should just stick with 'soon'...

On Ps4. I looked at the forum who can play well online and are Italian like mine, perhaps those who can't play is more a problem of connections!
Us on XBOX can't play online ... even with 12 users and I didn't see any XBOX forums start of online leagues!
I think the priority is our, ... After this patch, if it doesn't go, we abandon F1 2015, it will mean that we will have thrown away 70 euros and wait for the reviews before you buy F1 2016!!

We're sorry it's been delayed, but the alternative is to release it with issues present.

Another alternative would have been releasing the game in a completed state.

Okay back to reality. Ooops there goes gravity (wow I can fit an eminem reference in alongside an F1 Flyin cars mention)

Its hard to believe that we are talking about a game released over 6 months ago. Why would anyone trust you to do the needful with 2016 if all we have to go on is 2015, its myriad flaws, and codemasters inability to resolve the issues highlighted? If you go back through all your patch submissions, how many were kicked back from MS for example, due to other issues being found?

The 2016 'testing' and 'community reveal' is now pushed back to March, a slight delay apparently (can i get the game this year and some how have a slight delay in actually paying for it? Say, I don't know, I'll pay 6 weeks after I get it?),  although you appear to have tried to cover this by promising us exciting new surprises. Here's an idea. Instead of everyone talking non-stop about testing '16, have a few test 15 and its patches.

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS
Anyways, happy new year.

Are you being serious when you say:-

"We're sorry for the delay. Like I said, I know it's disappointing, but the alternative is to release with issues in.  For obvious reasons, hopefully you can see that we don't want to do that!“

Have you really got no knowledge of the state the game was released in? CM did not seem to worry too much about the "issues" then!

I concur with @Fractured

It's ok to release a game of its state to the paying customer??
Over 6 months later on all platforms the games still broke?
Please don't pity us with your apologies it's not your fault!
I had the game before day one patch we had a 7 player random lobby going and and apart from the thousands of planes and the odd wrong livery the game was actually better, zero tyre glitches,Parc ferme, hell even the connection was fine we raced through the night!

Sad to hear that Patch was delayed a bit more for XOne, but I think Mid-Session saving is quite important for some people playing Pro Season and similar (mostly 100% races), so good to see this being fixed before actual release. Looking forward to the new PC patch though.

Remember guys: This game was promoted with "weekly Season Updates" on nearly EVERY race weekend.

We got two patches for Xbox and in summary ONE Patch so far for "in season updates". The 2016 season is on to start and Xbox players are not able to play with cars from mid of 2015. This is customer cheating on a high level.

League racing is unplayable as i said on another thread last days. Thanks for destroying your community, who is waiting for a fu*king patch for four months. The sadest thing is that the new patch will nothing change on online gaming....

And then the delay with internal testing...doesnt make big hopes for F1 2016, to be honest.

The things that boils my blood with these people is F1 2013 was as far as they could go on old gen 360/ps3 everyone in the f1 community was expecting F1 2014 on the new gen consoles but no we got it on old gen and it wasn't even a proper finished game it was F1 2013.5 everyone said it so basically they have had 2 years on this and what a complete and utter calamity it is and do they care not a jot how they can be proud of this so called game before it launched is unreal they should hang their heads in shame

Ah yes, that Morrisons store opposite Tricorn House is full of niceties to eat. All the devs look over and think of all the nice food to eat, and I look over to Tricorn House when I'm shopping and think, wouldn't it be great to hand in my completely broken and not-fit-for-purpose copy of F1 2015 back to the devs. I don't suppose you'd be willing to hand me my money back, would you?

It's a shame about this news. I really have been holding out for the fundamental fixes needed since November and at the end of the day enough is enough and the game will get sold next week and appropriately reviewed (I wished I hadn't waited so long too, because the shop definitely won't accept a return after around 60 days). Generally it was going to be that if the patch landed in time with the necessary fixes, I'd play the game, most likely enjoy it, and keep it. Unfortunately that chance has flown out the window with this news, and the money from selling F1 2015 can go into other racing games currently on sale. I certainly won't be supporting the game franchise anymore whilst it's in the hands of Codemasters (I'd go as far as to say the licence should be in different hands, for the sake of the fans, and the devs who seemingly can't keep up with any of the work an F1 game demands). My hat goes off to the still-loyal fans who have invested in a broken product, yet still stick with it through the waiting. It's not something they deserve!

Bad play Codemasters.

I am one of the few people enjoying the game. I am an offline player. I gave up playing online a while ago, not because of glitches but because it is kinda impossible to find decent players to play with. What I wish for F1 2016 is less grip on grass, wet and out of bounds. Also, please bring classic mode back, just like in 2013 but with more drivers and old tracks. And make sure you test the game a LOT before its launch.

These notes are taking my breath...

You are not able to provide a final fix for all platforms before christmas for this franchise and further more you have to postpone the latest XB patch into new year.
Now you have to admit with your first statement in the middle of january, that another issue prevents submitting and release of a patch with the result of further delays (for all of your plannings).

Together with all open issues, things are getting more worse than think it's possible... more than a classic false start, CM... here is no hope and confidence you will be a winner on this franchise in the end.

Disqualification on your own...

@jennyannem please don't revert back to saying 'soon'! Bad news is never going to be popular but being open about what the process is next and likely timescales is appreciated.
