Logitech g920 causing framedrops ingame???? (detailed)

Okay, so I've done tests for about and hour or two and I've managed find the problem, at least on my system. When the LGS profiler software is running there will be a process called the Logitech Gaming Framework, and whilst this process isn't a problem generally, it draws upon the CPU significantly when the wheel is turned (in-game or simply on the desktop). In my tests, it would draw as much as 30% of my CPU when the wheel was being manually turned from lock-to-lock, irrespective of what application was running.

As for the solution, I didn't think the wheel would work without the LGS, but I was mistaken. If I just plug the wheel in whilst the computer is on, it won't work. If I launch the LGS with the wheel plugged in, and then close the LGS, the wheel will work. As for booting up (and bear in mind I turned off auto-start in the LGS) the wheel will work immediately without even touching the LGS.

I've tested extensively to make sure I'm not imagining any of these results, and it's definitely the case that with the LGS running (either in the foreground or background) the framerate drops because of the immense CPU usage when turning the wheel/

Now the thing that puzzles me is that @Destim mentioned the framerate was just as bad without the LGS. The only thing I can think is that the LGS wasn't actually closed, as in it was running as a background task, but I don't know whether this is true or not. In any case, a worthwhile thing to do before you start DiRT rally is to make sure there is no Logitech Gaming Framework process active in the task manager, and then give the game a try.

If this definitely does not work, try starting up the game, playing a bit of it (to verify the problem is still there) and then run the benchmark from the "graphics" menu. See how the framerate compares between the benchmark and your personal playing of the game. If the benchmark is smooth and fine, try turning the wheel several times to see if it affects the framerate drastically.

Let me know if any of this has helped or - as the case may be - completely useless.
Hmmm, nice man. I'm glad that fixed it for you, i will test it once i come home later in te evening and make sure those processes are closed.
Thanks again for ur effort!
It's really weird tho why this problem is only with dirt rally, i monitored cpu usage etc and it's never above 50%. So i will be pretty surprised if that works for me.

It does sound like our issues might be different, at least in terms of the cause. The 30% meant a lot to me on my computer, but on a much more powerful computer it might not make that much of a difference.

I think it somehow worked, turning of the framework manually in taskmanager worked, i played quiete some time to make sure it didn't have any freezes/fps drops. Still not sure if dirt rally is the issue or logitech's software

Best way to tell is have the framework running, watch the resources it takes up, and see if it increases when you turn the wheel. I did that on the desktop (no apps running) and it was ridiculous the usage it was using just turning the wheel. Therefore I'm inclined to think it's the Logitech software, seeing as it doesn't matter what, if any, game is open.

Hope it definitely has worked anyway.

Yeah indeed, i will inform codemasters about this and they might inform logitech. I love that they try to keep helping me xD.
The weird thing was that my framework didn't use many resources, i believe it didn't even affect my cpu usage. But somehow conflicted with the game. Framework more priority than Dirt Rally??

Thank you very much for ur effort and information, this should be placed in a hotfix section or something..

There is a solution for this issue, the thing that caused these issues is the logitech gaming framework.
If u connect the wheel, start the logitech gaming software (let the wheel connect to the program) and then manually close the framework
in taskmanger. Problem solved and no frame hangs/ freezes / fps drops etc....
