New content coming to DiRT Rally!

Recommended Posts

This is simulator.. yeah?.. so its all about driving experience.. yeah?..so maybe put some more work on physic side of this game, rather than adding more content.
Take a step back there, Rocky. This is a community... yeah? so it's all about the friendly social atmosphere... yeah? So maybe take a nap and come back in a better frame of mind, rather than letting that 'America's next top model' attitude slip out, k? :] mkay.

The bear has spoken.

More content is exactly what this game needs, granted what it really needs is more locations not cars, but i think the physics are good enough for now.

This is all jolly good news indeed, the Renault Alpine will be very welcome. Sadly the Mk 1 Escort hasn't been included which is a real shame, it is definitely iconic enough for a place in DR. I sincerely hope my comments in the forums have been noted about the in game Mk 2 Escort being moved to a new "Open Class" car category where it belongs and replaced with a realistic and authentic model of the Boreham works and David Sutton cars of the 70's and 80"s.  A car that dominated the world rally scene for some 11 years and driven and loved by the greatest names in the golden years of rallying and is still as popular today as it ever was, it deserves to be singled out for special attention and some good loving ! Why Codies chose to base the in game Mk 2 on a "one off" special car with IRS that was built for Colin McRae is a complete mystery ! :'(  Definitely need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

Shouldn't be any mystery there.
You're talking about a game that's going to have a bunch of Colin McRae liveries and the Legend edition will come with a blu-ray documentary about him.
Colin McRae is in the DNA of the game. That's why they've always used 'his' Mk 2.

What people have against that Mk2? I like it. The rims on it fit the car perfectly (kind of remind me the "Clarkson rims") and it just goes and looks nicely. Some really can't be pleased...

Point taken BrySkye, I'm all over the idea of tributes to Colin, after all, thats where the Dirt series all started, no problem there. I'm suggesting putting his Mk2 in a new open class category maybe with his liveries and give us Escort purists a proper authentic works Escort in the 70's class.

Its not a case of "some cant be pleased" its a case of getting it right ! there are a lot of purists like myself on here that have a keen eye for detail and I for one, make no apologies for it, I see another new thread about detail faults on the RS500 and you only have to watch the Liveries & Mods forum to see some of the nitpicking that goes on there. I'm sorry but when Codie Richard Thomas in an interview posted on their web site for the world to see states that it is so important to them to get the cars "realistic and authentic" I am going to hold him to his word. Codies have done a brilliant job on this, their first attempt at a simulation but there are some things that are horribly wrong, the replay cams, the UI and this Escort issue is my big peeve. All they have to do is create an "open class" category, shove the existing Mk 2 in there and it will be right. Then model a proper group 4 homologated works Escort for the 70's class. How much work can it be ? The shell, engine, gearbox, front suspension etc is already done, just  add a live Atlas rear axle & suspension, correct size rims, a nice photo real RHD interior, door glass instead of perspex, no carbon fiber dash or roof scoop, fit mud flaps all round, a roof aerial, door mirrors, Cibie Oscars or Carello's for the night, maybe tweak the audio pack for BDG sound and its job done. Then we will have a nice representation of a typical 70's group 4 Escort.

I just cant help feeling so disappointed that they chose to cut corners with the most loved rally car of all time, what a shame, I hope they will put this right. I know I have posted these comments elsewhere in these forums and do apologise for repeating myself somewhat here but there has been no comment from Codies on this which is frustrating. If they acknowledge this and tell us they will sort this out when they have time or release one as DLC then that's good enough for me  ............ rant over !

A lot.
You not only have changing all the assets, but there is the little detail that an additional license has to be acquired from Ford.
Licensing details are exact. Every car in DiRT Rally is licensed exactly the way it is and how they were allowed to do it.
They can't change the spoiler on the Impreza R4. They can't update the rear view mirrors on the Fiesta.
Codies cannot change a single aspect of their own accord. Everything has to be approved, including the liveries, which is why some cars like the Audi have no alternative options.
Licenses cost a lot of money. Getting the license itself, the negotiating involved, can be a long and arduous, thus also expensive, process.
Sometimes there is seemingly just no solution at all no matter what, strange as such a scenario may be (Toyota).

Clio super 1600 pure sound! I hope the sound is real (like 1996 impreza, for me the best sound of the game...). I don t like i20 sound, not real.Sorry for english!

I am from the Mk2 Escort Grp 4 era but I am quite satisfied that we have a Mk2 Escort in the game. I really can't see having two Escort Mk2s being necessary and there are far more cars that could be added before adding another Escort Mk2, for example a Mk1...

Tony, I merely suggest a solution to create an "Open Class" for one off specials like the current in game Mk 2, many other special cars that people might want included in DR can be added. If you are from that glorious era, I am sure you would love to see Grp 4 works Escort done properly and take its rightfull place in the 70's class ?

Alternatively, if two Mk 2's is an issue, the existing one can be dumped and replaced when the proper one is ready.

To be honest I would rather have a Lotus Sunbeam or Chevette HSR to add to the class,

And of course you're expecting them to pay for another license (which is not cheap by any means) just to get another version of basically the same car into the game because few people don't like this specific version?
If you would step up and fund the license for that particular model yourself, you may even have a chance of seeing that car in the game. Otherwise, you're just demanding things, no different than a little kid that didn't got his candy.

I might get mobbed for this. But what is the difference between the two escorts? I cant really see it.
I believe the donor car used for the visuals was a project for Colin McRae to create the ultimate Escort http://www.classicfordmag.co.uk/files/2010/08/CLF101.mcrae_.pdf and has some (IMHO) minor details like a roof scoop, different sized rims, a different dash with carbon fibre and if you flip it over you can even see the independent rear suspension! AFAIK the performance and handling in game is based on a Group 4 car of the era as Colin's car had a 330bhp engine and 6 speed gearbox along with suspension and brake updates.

Personally it is a close enough rendition in the game of the Mk2 Escort I remember seeing in the forests back in the day but your mileage may vary!

I'm sure Colins ultimate Escort used the suspension modified from a Grp A Escort Cosworth, like the one in game.

Minor details !!!??? its a completely different car ! the only thing in common is the body shell and the name, its not even close to a Boreham or David Sutton car !

There is a certain lack of a certain maker there.....

But more seriously, it seems that the Renault Alpine A110 STILL have the speedometer bug from DiRT 3 (same bug as the Stratos), I hope you will be able to correct it before release
That and I'd like a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo III for the Group A class along with that Missing Celica

In your quest for realism you want a David Sutton works Escort Mk2 in the 70s class? It is minor in the sense that it is instantly recognisable as a Mk2 Escort rally car.
