It is great I agree but it would need an early eighties category as it was from 1981, doesn't really fit with any of the existing categories unfortunately.

Same spec car that Boreham & Sutton built in the seventies Tony so yeah it fits in the 70's class just nicely ..... fortunately!
But if you want to be that matter of fact about things a 1981 car fits into the eighties class  ;)

That was the point - if you want to be that matter of fact about things, hence your request for another Escort more befitting the seventies ;) Having a Group 4 class like we have Group B would solve it nicely though! Room for an Ascona, Chevette, Sunbeam, Datsuns & Toyotas from the era leading up to Group B.

"Instantly recogniseable as a Mk2 Escort " ? Well its the same shape Tony, I will give you that ! Anyway, 70's, 80's class, Group 4 class, whatever, is fine by me, wherever its appropriate, as long as we have it ! and the existing MK 2 scrapped or shoved in a new open class where it belongs. The McRae special Mk 2 was built in 2004 so whats it doing in the 70's class !!??   To me those Works & Sutton Group 4 Escorts were just ..... sacred !

The current absence of a proper Grp 4 works Mk 2 is deeply disturbing indeed, it haunts my dreams !

It is really a shame that not including proper historically correct cars (and specifications for existing cars) all comes down to licensing and bureaucratic nonsense.  Honestly, if that is all that is holding it back, I'd rather see a "replica" of some of those cars, without any badging on them and a couple of minor graphical tweaks so that they aren't "official" but dimensionally, technically, and performance-wise they are exactly the same as their real-life counterparts.  I mean, plenty of other racing games get away with that, right?

Or.... open up modding and adding cars to the game and let the fans create the content.  A perfect example of that is the brilliant Power & Glory mod for GTR2/GTL.  That team isn't doing it for profit so no licenses to worry about.

Back to late 70's all works Escorts (I think that happens the same with the Sutton's cars, comparing the Rothmans with the "Black Beauty") were slightly different between them. It's logical, one level of preparation according to the rallye to race. For example, the 1979 (I think) Montecarlo Escort was lightest and widest of all and the most powerful (BDG engine with Lucas injection reaching about 290 BHP to 900kg, not sure about these numbers, maybe my memory it's cheating me). A couple of years ago, Millares Autosport (a Spanish Escort specialist) built a Montecarlo replica, with aluminium wide arches and Kugelfischer injection (In these days I talked with the Millares crew and they tell me that the Kugelfischer injection was more reliable than the Lucas but less powerful). That car raced in the Canary Islands and it looks similar to the Colin's one.

You can see in the image the wider wheel arches, more squared than Colin's car.

The more I think about this update the more hyped I get. Renaults, full gravel PP, and the record breaking PP car is a really nice finishing touch on the game.

I'm excited about the full gravel PP too, but the first thing I'll do with it is to stick it in place of one of the Greek stages and take the Polo or i20 up there*

*please Codies, don't make that impossible to do!

best not show this image to my mate. hes currently building a mk2 escort. swopped his evo fq 360 for it :D

engine is coming along nicely now. escorts were often tweaked swopped parts and so on. it is tricky to get one that fits all.especially the wing differences .

What i want to know is what game modes are we going to have apart from rallycross and standard time trial based rally? which is awesome enough dont get me wrong.. but trailblazer and head to head was remarkable!!! the trailblazer cars and tracks were phenomenal!! and i would like to see more locations in the coming future as i am looking to get this on release for my xbox one.. WELL DONE for what looks like an AMAZING rally game yet again codemasters! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add more locations etc and at least think about trailblazer etc as i think the variety would evaluate better gameplay and the experience would be breathtaking as it was back in Dirt 3

As far as I know, there won't be any new game modes. Just the ones we have now.

And trailblazer is basically hillclimb, just without the hills :D In DiRT3 they used hillclimb cars on longer and a bit wider stages. In DiRT Rally Pikes Peak is the equivalent to trailblazer

I didnt know this.. thats awesome!!! Pikes peak will be awesome!!!! I just hope they do not lack extra locations as i know a lot of people are routing for more within coming DLC at least.. Looks such an extraordinary game! Definitley buying it come April :D cant come quick enough! Me and my friend literally dominated literally every race we took part in on Dirt 3 and i cant wait to get used to the new engine and the new handling and cars and the lcoations look great but i think lacking in choice.. hopefully codemasters will listen and think of adding more :D

And yet it's nowhere near enough. Not to mention that using only one stage cut to pieces got repetetive pretty fast.

Luckily driving is good enough to keep me still firing the game up.

This is great news. The Alpine is going to scratch a hitch I have had for a while with this game.
While I want to write this post to thank you for your continuing awesome work on this title, I would not be a simracer if I didn't have a few requests to put on record:

Quattro E2 - I mean, I love the Group B Quattro, but we need more. More.
Ford Escort (the original one from the late 60's)
Any Toyota from the golden era.
Saab, Jaguar et al from the very dawn of the sport? Maybe next year? It would be nice to have a 2 strokes.

Now that I got that out of the way, I have a weird request/comment: Of course, we need more stages. Lots more. Italy, France, Australia, Africa and even the US would be great. The more the merrier and the less of a chance too many people can actually memorize the stages like in circuit racing.

However, what I really would like to see in addition to more stages would be some iconic Hillclimbs in addition to Pikes peak. Sure, Pikes Peak is very iconic and getting the all dirt version is going to be awesome. But as far as motorsport is concerned, especially in Europe (I am from the US but I was born in Italy), Hillclimbs are one of the most accessible form of motorsport. Dirt Rally has the chance of set itself aside from all the other games by featuring the very Hillclimbs that most people with a racing passion have a chance to race in real life.  Plus, as far as I can tell, getting the license for public streets should be easy, if necessary at all. The cars would be almost ready to go, you could give us a Hillclimb package for most of the cars, but even if you left them as they are, it would still be awesome.

Additionally,  it would round up the Pikes Peak area of the game which is called Hillclimb but it's really a single location.

One last thing: You have done an awesome job. As soon as you have enough content to justify the base price for the game, start charging for additional cars and tracks. Make it reasonable and give occasional discounts, but I think you'll find that your core fanbase won't really care to give you $5 to $15 every month or two if it means getting the stages we would love to race and the cars to do it in.

How about releasing vintage versions of the stages? For the vintage cars?

Charge me for it. Charge me through the nose, I don't care. I think few of us care. DR is already the game I am most likely to try to save if my home was burning. You can blackmail me for any car and track you want and I'll buy it.
