So does that mean any store without an entertainment desk won't be able to order it?
I've no idea. I would hope any store will be able to order it. I'm going to try again on Friday.

Please do let us know how you get on, it'd be appreciated. This is the one game I've been holding onto hope wouldn't disappoint after a string of letdowns, and they decide to go & sell the exclusive version through a retailer that won't deliver. If it were Tesco or Asda It'd be sweet, I'm in one or the other at least once a week. Starting to think the game industry in general just doesn't like me!

If it weren't for that damned clutch!
That would be a dream. Just getting the Skoda would be enough for me
I don't get it, they are owned by VW, & the Polo is in. It seems that either games don't want Skoda or vice versa. The last time I saw one was in Sega Rally for the X360/PS3 which must be 7 or 8 years ago. I nearly bought a Fabia VRS but went for a Focus ST170, partly because of Colin McRae Rally 3. And NO, I couldn't afford the RS! sadly.

Any chance of the 2003 or 2002 Markko Martin Focus liveries?

Or maybe a 307?

Possibly even the Kris Meeke C2? As he was backed by McRae.

I'm sure it's only wishful thinking, Come on and justify my love CodeMasters!

The 307 and C2 won't be happening, Mr. Cigar. I'm sure a skinner will happily make you the Märtin liveries if you ask nicely in this thread though:

In Dirt3 there where a teaser about the Fabia S2000 but it never came to see the light of day. Maybe it's internal policy, I don't now, but skodas are not in many games really!

Hopefully the console release is a massive success, and the roster will be expanded even more in the future as an update or DiRT Rally 2. It's always good to have variety. I only had a quick look at the thread, but some impressive work on display. I'm an XBox user (please don't mock me, Microsoft seem to be doing that enough lately) so doubt I'll have access to livery editors. Or the money & patience to set up a decent PC. Although it would be nice to be able to use my Fanatec & Gameracer again. The Martini Delta Intergrale & 037 reminded me of another to add to the wish list.

Safari rally and this...

I don't even like Porsches that much, but they look brutal. I doubt the Martini liveries would ever be officially included due booze advertising laws, like in F1 games.

I never knew that. Shame we missed out there then. I'm forgetting about the official WRC games, but they're to be expected in those. They frequently win auto awards & top survey polls, but not once have they been in Forza Motorsport. Loads of VW's, Audi's & Lamborghini's though.

Yeah, it was mentioned in one of the early previews (on Gamespot if I remember rightly). The S2000 Fabia never made it to the final game though, I'm sure when asked the CM response was that it was down to a licensing issue.

Well, I've asked Sainsbury's customer support via email if this can be ordered in any store and got this in response:

Thanks for dropping us an email.

I'm sorry that your local store doesn't stock games such as PS4 dirt rally steelbook.

I've logged your feedback with our suppliers to advise them of your interest in the product and I've advised them of your location.

Thanks again for dropping us an email and for considering Sainsbury's.

Kind regards

Colin Sampson | Sainsbury's Careline

Doesn't exactly answer the question, & I never specified a format (I actually want it on Xbox),  but I think it really means "T.S. pal, you've got no hope! We're alright here in London though. HA!"

I just know some scumbag ebay Del Boy wannabe will buy 15 copies just to sell for double the price simply because he's right next to the store.

FFS CodeMasters, why not with an online retailer?! Then whoever really wants it could actually buy it themselves.

@CloseButNoCigar I tried again yesterday at my local (ish) store. Still no joy, but this time the guy said he was going to email the distribution warehouse and see what he could find out.

I'm to go back on Wednesday or Tuesday and hopefully he will have an answer for me. This will be trip number 3! (that's 68 miles and counting!)

I will be giving up after this trip. It just doesn't seem worth the hassle.

And yes... I am very salty about all this. :(

Between your efforts & my email I think we're just not invited to the party. I try hard to avoid twitter but have noticed the @dirtgame feed while looking into this:

You can pre-order DiRT Rally Steelbook Edition in-store at @Sainsburys now! Good Friday? It's a GREAT FRIDAY.

What it SHOULD say is either "some of you can pre-order" or "at selected Sainsburys". Looks like there's no choice for me but  to order the special edition from GAME.co.uk with extra Escort livery & whatever else it comes with, then see if I can tab a steelbook for cheap off ebay later. Will at least get it delivered & get some club points to go with the £5 voucher deal they're offering. I know it's only a steelbook, but I'm  partial to a steelbook. I hope the game is as good as it looks, it's a late birthday present for myself & can't wait to chuck a Mk.2 Escort around Finland after the let downs of Rainbow 6, Star Wars Battlefront & especially Destiny.

@CloseButNoCigar I would like the steel book, but be under no illusion, ANY copy you can get is worth it. As far as Rally sims go, this IS as good as it gets.

The Steel book debacle aside, I can't recommend any rally sim more than this.

It is a mess. I don't know if it was Koch Media that decided it would be a good idea and, rather aptly, Koched it up.
*badum, tsch*

Fortunately for me on my upcoming hunt, all three large Sainsbury's are along the A1231 merging to the A1, so straight forward.
Question is, do I start at Gateshead and end at Sunderland, or the other way around. Both are pretty depressing end-points!

I'm prepared to buy the steelbook for PC, purely as a personal memento to myself for being actively involved in the community test team for that PC version, but that won't extend to a 'normal' edition, or even XB1/PS4 steelbook. The normal one doesn't seem special enough any more and there just isn't the same personal connection with the console versions.
I can't afford just buy multiple copies willy nilly. ;P

@Evilsmurf  ,

@BrySkye
Maybe try telling ourselves "it's only a steelbook, it's only a steelbook, it's only a steelbook, it's only a steelbook..."

No, doesn't work, still want it!

They've not exactly excelled at promoting it either. I only discovered it by accident when looking at the website before I was about to pre-order it from GAME.co.uk. Only announcing it a couple of weeks before release gives me the impression it's a last minute thing. The £5 voucher GAME are offering that I mentioned before, I just bought some xbox currency only to be told the voucher will be sent on April 15th.

I've enjoyed every Codemasters rally game since the original Colin Mcrae Rally on PS One except for CMR 2, which I didn't bother with on PS because it was announced for Dreamcast only to be cancelled. Even Showdown was tolerable, but CMR 3 was my fave in many ways (doughnutting tyres off the rims & flinging sparks from all 4 corners) and this reminds me of that.  Add in a lot of the dirt series with a bit less of the "Woah, Dude!" stuff and it looks sorted. It's the only game in a long time that I watch footage of & have a smile on my face (sad, I know). If only the pace notes were by Nicky Grist. Problem is I'm going to want a new Fanatec wheel, & if I get the wheel also new pedals, & also maybe the handbrake (£££££!!!! Damn microsoft could have made the old ones compatible, but no). Tendonitis from controller or wallet surgery?

Went to my local Sainsbury's today to try and preorder the PS4 steel book. The lady just shook her head and said she didn't know and suggested I try on the day of release. She didn't have record of the preorder and they usually come out on the Thursday before release day. So will try again on the 31st. I don't want to miss out however as I was planning to use my nectar points because it's a double up event!

What's that old saying?... something about organize, couldn't, brewery... something or other.

If they aren't even going to tell the retailer that they have the supply deal with, what chance do the customers have?
I would have been willing to pay a bit extra for an exclusive edition direct from CodeMasters, happily knowing my money was going towards supporting a British developer, now that they're a dying breed. Instead the extra will go to ebay, which will no doubt be syphoned through Luxembourg or Switzerland to dodge tax.

I actually went back in to Sainsbury's today and I faced the same issue with the same woman, despite them telling me that the pre-orders get posted on Thursdays.  However another staff member overheard and mentioned I wasn't the only one who had asked that week.  he had posted it on sainsbury's internal entertainment forum and hoped someone might answer.  He was actually quite helpful, but none th wiser either, but at least made an effort to explain.

He suggested the only option was to come in on the day of release (early) and secure one.  I expect people will find the same issue elsewhere.  I'll keep checking everyday, but clearly an internal communication breakdown going on.

Went back to Sainsbury's again, and they had the xbox version out on the shelves, advertising the steelbook and that it's included in the double-up event.  Unfortunately not available to pre-order at the desk, so will have to go in on day of release!  Price would be £42.99 they said...

Really odd that codemasters would grant sainsbury's exclusivity to this, and them then not promote it at all through pre-orders.   Clearly they don't think it's going to be a big release.

£42.99? that's cheap for a steel book addition.
there's 2 versions on game website one with a mini and blue ray for £41.99 and another with the mini mk2 escort and blue ray for £44.99. quite frankly its pissing me off seeing all these people who have the disc already when its not supposed to be released until tuesday

Those people who already have are just mainly journalists and youtubers.
