Dirt Rally: Can't get reverse in auto mode

I can't always get reverse. Driving in automatic and using the xBox One controller. left trigger is set up for Braking /Reverse. Braking works fine but it only seems to want to go in reverse about 1 time in 3. Anyone else have this? Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug?

Brake until you stop, then release the button and press it again. The reverse gear will not be applied unless you press the button again.
