The Cheat Thread

I think it would be nice to tier times but only for keyboard/gamepad/wheel. We know you at Codemasters can separate the data as you can see on the DiRT website.

You totally ignore the fact that turning too much is slowing your car even with DiRT's physics and that you sometimes really want to make small corrections that will be really hard if you drive with 270 degrees.
If you look at any of @gheeD 's videos you will notice that he is almost never using full lock even with 540 degrees. At that point you need precision more than speed.
You can lock the steering wheel to look like it was running at 900 degree on the telemetry. You'll see it will look ridiculous at first glance.

Here @gheeD  go almost full near lock, most of the time he got the steering rotated at 180 degree to turn in.

Here @KevM who turn in at 90 degree most of the time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkMKadR2hog

It's not anyone fault, it's the way the FFB is translated on a Logitech wheel. You tend to turn in less with less speed. The return speed & the way it slip more easily, it is more than twice better on a trustmaster wheel.

Firstly, your statement that you turn in less with less force feed back is actually wrong, because when you turn in the force feedback will resist you turning the wheel which will then actually make you turn less if you are not used to it. That happened to me; I used to drive dirt rally with G27 until just 2 weeks ago and the first few days I was just driving into the ditches because I was not used to the stronger forces and higher resistance when I was trying to turn in like I used to. So infact if you are not used to it, higher forces will make you turn in less than you plan to. (which you might think is an advantage to logitech wheels)

Comparing our runs, I would say the difference comes from speed. I am going so fast and flicking the car into the corners, whereas kevm brakes earlier and takes a safer line to get through the corner.

Mine literally wouldn't change direction with those brute-force inputs, it'd push the nose & understeer.  Mine requires a little more finesse to get the physics to play ball (pardon the pun) :p

Did you already test with  my setup?

KRHM..... I mean @Porkhammer 's setup?

Nope.  Should I?  Is that the one you made for gheeD to use?

That's why you're slower. You don't rotate the car, you simply turn.

How about you do a rerun at 270 degree(no change on FFB setting, keep the telemetry at 540 degree) & show us if it change anything to you?

Porkies setups rarely work for me.  Is it the same one gheeD uses up there?

Yeah it is, that's why I have asked you to try it all this time

I bet with the default setup you'll beat your own current record.

If you don't want the time to record, you pause & exit before the finish line. :)

Finish Line??  I cant GET to the Finish Line!!!  LOL  :D

That is HORRIFIC!  If I blindfolded my 4 yr old daughter, told her to turn her back the to PC and told her to make a setup for Finland by hitting the keyboard with a plastic mallet, it would be better than that shambles!!!!

I had a quick look at the actual setting before I drove them and nearly fell over....  Thought I would try anyway and as expected, they are a failure of the highest order.

I might upload the best of my bad captures just to demonstrate how much under-steer, bounce, lack of power-oversteer etc there actually is with this...

LO ACTUAL L

Not a Clue!  not one!

Before your comment I haven't even looked at the setup, I used it just because @gheeD used and wanted to test out exactly same setup.
It's not that far off, but there are things that instantly seem wrong.
Still that's what they used for those top times...

First thing I would change is damper setup and cambers.

Yes, I know it is what was used, so between the motionless G Ball and the horrific setup, the whole thing defies logic. PRICELESS!!
You guys are on iRacing, yet pride yourselves on a setup like that??
FFS C'Mon... Like SERIOUSLY???

Sorry to hear that you do not like my setup. There is, however, a simple solution to your situation.

Don't use it.

Watch my replay, I have the car turned in and am on gentle opposite lock by the apex of nearly every corner.  Thats Rotation.  You cant just turn a rwd on gravel, I do most of the steering with the throttle!

Clearly...

Anyway, here's a recap of gheeD's run  - watch for the landings & (lack of) rebound
https://youtu.be/nURkIIORILM

And mine, with the exact same setup
https://youtu.be/rfx2ZuhtJvE

In case you weren't following the thread, I never intended to @Porkhammer , as they never really work!  Kakkela kept insisting though (unfortunate, I know....).   ;)

Actually Fast rebound affects only bouncing back from those big jumps. Porks setup isn't limiting rebound from small bumps.
To me that looked quite a decent run before you made mistake on that one jump, you were 6 secs off @gheeD on that last split with quite a few mistakes or unnecessary lifts.
You just cant dial out those "airtimes" when going balls to the wall with M3. FFS it's almost as fast as WRC mini without setup, only with 30 years old tech.

@Porkhammer might have modified the setup between @gheeD 's run and today, I remember him talking about it after the video got posted.

^^ it look robotic now

Redo again, the telemetry is missing(leave the telemetry at 540 degree).
