How are the car physics in Dirt rally?

Recommended Posts

So just played Loeb Rally and the car handling is horrible very floaty like a balloon is attached to the car. You never feel like you have control of the cars. Thier is no weight to the cars at all. Now WRC 5 may not be a true sim but that games car physics were fun to drive and the car had weight and you felt in control.

I'm and xbox gamer so I have not tried out Dirt rally yet. Do cars in Dirt Rally have weight and do you feel like you control the cars?

Cool so no floaty balloon crap and you feel like the cars are actually on the road? WTF was milestone thinking? horrible car physics.

I would argue that because they weren't thinking at all the game ended like that.

No, what are you talking about, it's the most simulator rally game or whatever.

Judging from the demo, it wasn't even that bad. I haven't had chance to test it after release and few first fixes tho.

It's horrible which is a shame. I just bought it full price in the USA, don't think they released a demo here.

Graphics are good
Tracks are good
Amount of different options are good
Car selection is good
Weather is good

Driving is horrible, I do not feel like I have any control over the cars, the cars feel like helium ballons are attached to them and they just float and bounce over the road and I'm lucky to be able to point them in some coherent direction. This is not a difficulty thing, I'm very familiar with how most Rally games handle. The cars have no weight to them at all. Their is a huge disconnect with the car and the road in Loeb Evo which is not correctable.

I can deal with a difficult rally game as long as the cars have real weight to them and feel like they are actually sitting on top of the road not floating over it randomly. You never feel like the actual road has any bearing on what your car is doing and the different surfaces don't matter since even a straight away on pavement going about 25 MPH  in clear weather is a floaty random torture like experience.

The cars need twice the weight to them in the game and the tires need to actually feel like they are placed on the road.

I really hope Dirt Rally has cars with proper weight on them, where tires feel like they are actually going over the terrain and that I will only lose control of the car if it's my fault.

As put down as WRC 5 is the actual driving experience is miles and miles ahead of Loeb Evo.

I just bought a XBOX One controller. I tried a bit DiRT Rally with it on my multimedia PC. The trigger aren't squishy anymore. The ergonomic is quite different from the 360 controller.

If you're used to recent Gran Turismo you'll feel at home with DiRT Rally.

I don't think you'll be disappointed then! Cars in DR have a good sense of weight and communicate traction very well. Every car feels very different, with the older cars feeling much more 'raw' than the modern ones.

This is factually incorrect. There is no worse rally game than WRC5.
Tarmac handling is pretty nice in SLRE.

"This is factually incorrect" is factually an opinion and, in fact, not factual.

Sorry but I played about 25hrs of WRC5 and the cars are controllable and feel like they are a actually attached to the road. I get the fact it is not a 100% sim and the tracks are kind of patched together and the graphics are not all that great but I had alot more fun with WRC5 than I will with Loeb Rally.

In Loeb Rally the cars feel like they are floating 5 inches above the ground bouncing and bobbing around the track. How could they play this game internally and QA test it and think yep these floaty weightless cars are exactly what we need in this game. Did they dev the game to be a moon rally game?

I have 25 hrs on WRC 5, I'm not trying to say it's the best game in the world but gees at least it FEELS like the cars are attached to the road and the driving model is workable. You are never going to be able to really feel how a racer drives by posting youtube videos. I watched Hours of Loeb Evo videos before I bought the game and could have never guessed how disconnected the cars feel after playing it. I wish reviewers would have gone further to mention this. Loeb Evo feels like a hovercraft rally game not a car rally game.

In Loeb Evo I'm driving 25 mph on a straight away on pavement in clear weather and I feel like the car is going to float across the road at any second. It's not realistic at all the cars have no weight to them.

@gheeD owns WRC5 too and I can vote for his comment also, it's mediocre rally game with very silly stuff in it.
I would actually say that Monte in SLRE felt on par with DiRT Monte. There were things that were lacking in PC demo, but car physics weren't the weakest link.
I'm sure you still will enjoy DiRT, but just so you know tarmac is it's weakest link at the moment. It's all redeemed on gravel tho.

I'm not trying to say WRC5 is the best rally game ever but it's basic car physics are much better than Loeb Evo. Loeb Evo has hovercraft car physics it is a horrible unrealistic and uncontrollable mess. This is not a difficulty thing this is an issue where in Loeb Evo the car literally feels like it is floating on a 5 inch cushion of air just like a hover craft. They completely borked up the physics. The cars have ZERO weight to them.

I do own WRC 5, tried it for the fun of seeing how i could do in the esports stages. In sweden i got maybe 7-8 seconds from the fastest dude by just practicing on my own, but the stage was shit and you had to maximize cutting and the steering felt horrible.

I've only tried SLRE demo when it came out, and despite everyone crying about it I managed to figure it out to get the steering feeling alright (and definitely better than what I managed to achieve in wrc 5) and get some good runs on that sisteron stage on monte carlo. It was not bad at all, with bit more refined steering settings and so on definitely right up there with dirt rally's monte carlo and maybe even bit better. But at this point what "feels" better is really hard to judge. I will have to wait until I can get SLRE for cheap before I will give it a proper full go.

And to your question, yes Dirt Rally definitely beats both games in every aspect of rally driving.

So what settings in Loeb Evo do you have to change to make the cars not feel like uncontrolable floaty hovercrafts?
