Alpine Renault. Lovely car, but...

@Porkhammer If you would be willing to sacrifice your weekly, it would be really interesting to see how you would fare with a Mini Cooper (a car you excel at) in Greece (a location you excel at) against the A110s.

It could also be a good benchmark for Codies in terms of what needs to be done to make the 60s more than a one-car-class.

(I totally understand if you don't find this impossible challenge appealing.)

Beginners, especially padders, cant make RWD work well though, so its all bases covered.

The Cooper is a very quick wee car.  If used properly, it can shame the Fulvia

Don't feel like losing by 20 seconds on average per stage, no. :P

I think it oversteers nicely into every corner, as long as you turn in properly.

The R5 on the other hand... won't even go around hairpins without using the handbrake. Very strange.
short wheelbase problem perhaps?

Then why don't the Stratos suffer?

Fair enough.
The fastest Cooper in the weekly is currently three and a half minute off the pace. Says it all, really.

You could reset twice on every stage in an A100 and still finish in front of the competition.  :-/

I may be wrong on this, but isn't the rear track width on the 5 Turbo wider than the front? That could be the reason it looses front grip so easily.

Anyone else find the 5 Turbo kinda horrible to drive? Especially on asphalt
I love it in medium and fast corners, but the understeer in slow corners is immense.

The A110, yes, such a fun little car.  Its the 1st time in a year, that I have enjoyed 60's runs.
I really like driving the A110, but it has for all practical purposes removed the two other 60s cars from the game. There's no point using the Cooper or Fulvia anymore, except in daily events, as there's no way they can even remotely keep up.

One step forward, two steps back.
So I'm fiddling with my FFB and the Alpine, and I'm getting 16 seconds ahead of everything else while going off track and stalling. It is a bit ridiculous.
Haven't tried it on tarmac, but I think for Greece it might be my new favorite. (I might also just avoid tarmac, it's not great.)

It has wider rearwheels.

Hmm.. nah. On tarmac it has wider (or as wide) rearwheels... but on gravel, its tyres are a lot narrower than the Renault 5's. Doesn't add up.

It's like the front tires just give up when you turn the wheel more than halfway.

I just tried it on a slippy Monte stage, and I just couldn't keep the rear end in check whilst going down the hill. Fishtailing everywhere!

Adjust the differential / brake balance maybe?
Doesn't help - and I've tried it all. The R5 is just an awkward handling car, simple as.

I tried on Greece for about 3 corners then quit.

I got some speed out of it, but only after lots of time and effort, and it is not any quicker than the M3 anyway... so! If people don't like it, they can simply stick to the BMW, or the Sierra.

Yeah, wish the same could be said for the Alpine. That thing is ridiculous.
