Dirt rally ps4 too hard to beat ai

Recommended Posts

I have to agree with the OP on this topic.  My short experience so far with Rallycross in the career championship = "Rallycross classic mini Masters Championship".  The Ai is occasionally running upto 1 sec. faster lap times than the the fastest lap records to date,  Mostly in the elite and master's portions of the event, Which I eventually won setting many top 20 times .  But how is this reasonable or fair?  I am a long time Dirt franchise racer with many existing records on ps4 and xbox. These fast Ai times WILL cause many people to give up these events in Dirt Rally. I can't speak for any other events/Disciplines yet but  "1 sec"  faster than the fastest records is beyond ridiculous.

Dirt 3 was my favorite, cause there were show driving, rallying, drifting and rally cross. It was great mix of those. I hope that dirt 5 gonna be something like that. Have to keep practicing, but i think that many players would give up and sell the game if they not starting to win races after week or two of playing. This was only my opinion.
I'm going to play my spin-off card one more time:
Dirt Rally is not the successor of Dirt 3, Dirt Rally is a spin-off of the Dirt franchise, it's realistic approach to rally racing and should be appoarched like that.

The game is not about winning everything first time around, it's about the learning process and getting better by practising, also the reason Codemasters added the Custom event is for you to drive all the cars without having to unlock everything, it's all available from the get go so you can drive where and whatever you want to get better. It's rewarding to be able to control a rally car on different surfaces and weather conditions, and progressively become better at it.

I think you're probably not the target for this game. I don't want bloody show drifting in a rally game, and could lose rallycross two! I hated all that crap added to the latest Dirt Rally games, with that 'stoked bro' voice on top and stupid dice hanging from the rearview mirrors! It's CMR2 and RBR all the way for me, so glad this game is closer to that again (and halfway through my first championship I'm not finding it too hard, 2nd after 4 events seems fair, let's see if at some point I hit a brick wall of difficulty but so far I see progression possible).

I think they did well on PC with this, now it's a question of seeing if they have enough rally purists on consoles like those on PC who loved this 'back to rally basics' approach of this instalment. But the game was developed, if it bombs on consoles (which I doubt) I imagine it won't be a big deal for them, in fact making the game easier would instead require added time and money to get right.

So you hated those things, but when look at the sales of previous dirt games, i think that most of the players did like it. I have played through couple championships now and MY opinion is that game is too difficult to most of the PS4 players. I like the game, driving and the graphics and all that, but when i`m not getting further of championship or i am getting stuck with it some point and racing same championship and same races over, over and over again ( i`m not alienate in 1-2 weeks) i let it be. But i can still race against the clock with my friends or by myself. Back to basics and realism, yes i like that idea, but why its bothering those pro drivers so much the idea that the game contains the lower difficult levels? No harm for anyone, no lower the value of the game and that does not change the basic idea of the game - i think that way. Yes, i agree with you that the making the game easier would require plenty of more time and money and that never gonna happen. But it is nice to chit chat and discuss those issues what players feel like it to be right or wrong in this game, in their own opinion. :D
Like i say this is only my opinion, but would it be nice if the game would include in addition to the current championship, other not so serious, more like the dirt 3 championship just for fun. Where you can enjoy the driving and having a good time. It would be the opposite of this current championship. ;) :D
I know that someone moans that it would not be the same game anymore and it would destroys the basic idea of the game, but this is not so serious chit chat. :D
Do not regret yours minds,
Enjoy the game pals

A lot of players liked those things, especially in the US, they allowed the game to break in there, but a lot of us felt alienated and they decided to make the game for us again for a change, I think that's good and let's see how it goes in terms of sales, who knows.

I think the game appears to be too difficult at the start, but then after a couple of days it started feeling normal to me. I disagree with you that there isn't lower difficulty in this game. It's in the different tiers (Open, Clubman, etc) + you can turn on assists and then reduce them as you get the hang of it. If you get stuck in Clubman for a long time, is that a big problem? You can still buy cars, get upgrades, etc, eventually those things will get you to move up. Also, with every CMR game I'd struggle with the FWD and especially with the RWD cars, but once I get into 4WD it just starts flowing! I've just finished my first championship in 3rd place without assists, didn't win any event but I'm ok with that. It's my first championship and I've already finished 3rd and moved to Clubman! Of course if you expect to be the king of it all and be 1st all the time, it won't happen straight away, and that's a good thing! Take time to set up your wheel properly, set up the car (use all your shakedowns), wait to be able to buy better cars and upgrades and it should all start to fall in place. This game is feeling only marginally harder than the previous games to me SO FAR, (except for Wales, bloody hell, couldn't get the Mini to turn properly in that muddy hellhole).

Most don't give a damn to explain & unhelpful to fix the issue. Most simply drive the wrong way & maybe there's a fear to get beaten, I don't know... DiRT Rally is not a difficult game until you get to Master.

I will explain accordingly how to tackle the corners when you don't know the stage at all.

How to corner on slippery stage.

You have to be aggressive on the first turn in with the steering(don't turn, rotate the car) If it's not enough you pull the handbrake for more rotation. Sure you slow down a bit, but I'll explain the reason below.

The point of doing it is to gain speed for consecutive corner is by placing the car in the right position & angle for every corners. On gravel or snow the car is always understeering, thus by simply turning the car, it will do it too slow.

In Initial D(Japanese anime) takumi "the 4 wheel drift".
It start at 9:17
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW0Lmv6erZU
Basically the front tire always understeer even while drifting. If you force the other direction it won't understeer. Snapping the car while in drift motion to the other direction is the faster way. than simply turn in on a slippery surface

Yes, the car should be sideway even before you hit the apex. Obviously, the apex is where you have to rotate to the other direction. Understeer is the evil.

When you play in high degree rotation, you tend to make the car simply turn. When you race, you have to make the car rotate(kind of..).

I tried a bit in 270 degree & reduced a bit the FFB to make the car easier to rotate instead of simply turn in. Obviously if you screw one corner by handicap, you screw all of them. It's more about more steering input in the least amount of time while the car can without understeering.

Massive performance increase.

There's problem with dualshock steering sensitivity. They need to patch it. I don't need to learn how to drive as I'm playing racing games past 20 years. Sort it out codies.

For the record improving is not fun it's long boring and arduous. Everyone saying it's rewarding I'm sorry but for something be rewarding it has to reward you with something ie winning
If you are looking for an "I win" button, don't bother, this game doesn't have it, if you can't stand the thought of practising without being rewarded for actually trying hard, then this game is most likely not for you.

Try Dirt 3, it has an "I win" button and even has one of those rewind functions, maybe that is more you kind of game.

Well, I've never been so satisfied after nailing a stage.. I didn't even win it but It felt good to be hitting apexes sideways and powers slidding. , I've put in some hours to get better at it.. and it's paying off..  I totally agree with spokster.. if you want to win everytime by minutes then go play arcadey game dirt 3.. I'm loving this game.. it's about time console games stepped up from arcade game nonsense..

I've posted my own thread but can I just say.... there appears to be a lot of very confused people commenting here.

The game is missing two settings - new driver and novice. Easy is not easy, is it crazy hard

Now before anyone starts up. I am on level 1050+ on Forza 6 and last year was in the top 1% of XBox Users by time in the world... so if we want to start making silly comments then all of you are basically amateurs in comparison and have no valid opinion in comparison.... because that is what you people effectively are saying to this OP..... but as I am a reasonable person ..... let's all be reasonable instead... this is not a playground

Some of you seem to imagine this game is an extension of your manhood.... enough said on that.. But it isn't, it is just a game It counts for nothing in the real world, you can play Dirt Rally on "Super Dooper Hard as Hell" and you still won't earn more than minimum wage.

However people buy a game to have fun, not to please you people or the Devs, but to please themselves. Not to measure themselves against you... just to have fun

Therefore if the Devs could see their way clear to adding two far easier settings, it will make a lot of people happy and have precisely no effect on you people at all.

Both Forza & PCars lack of proper weight transition. Obviously you will struggle a lot jumping to DiRT Rally. You could be the world leader in those game, but they aren't what I would call proper racing games.

Huge irrelevancy from a massive cock.

Also, if you want to have a debate, don't be a complete and utter arse hole and belittle anybody you get a chance to belittle.

But as I am a reasonable person .....

I always found Forza to have great weight transition...

Alrighty, I don't want to ruin this guys already double posted topic, but, if you know there's already topics on it, then why actively make a second topic to be a D?

Nobody cares about you're Forza rank. I've played the game for like 10 hours and got to rank 100.

Who's shaking their manhood around here? Why assume we all earn minimum wage? My EE friend and his wife both make 6 figures and he has 1200 hours in BF4. Actually it's probably more. He can also play DR better than you. So, therefore he's a C.

You can have fun, you just don't want to. Play Dark Souls.

The Devs will do as they see fit, and you with you're stupid cockswinging won't change anything. I can't imagine anything you say is real, I'm just bored right now.

Well Drave, I make a little more than minimum wage and I find this game's difficulty just fine  :D As I said before, top 3 finish in my first try at rally season, 2nd place with two events done in my first hillclimb season, and rallycross took a few more attempts but with good setups I got to Clubman eventually. I haven't played a driving game since the last Grid, btw. If it's too hard for you, sell it and buy an easier one, why get your panties in a bunch over this, plenty of easier driving games around, you're spoiled for choice! Get your mathematician son to teach you how to work out the google on the internet machine, find the ebays and Bob's your uncle.

I don't understand these 'games is too hard' complaints, have these people tried to set up the car at all? It makes a world of difference!

So tired of the "I have a job" and blah blah. So do I, just practice. I'm in the Army! Just practice a little everyday and don't get frustrated when you mess up. Eventually you will find your own groove. And it WILL be rewarding. It's one of the few games that actually make me proud when I accomplish something because I had to TRY hard and put in time to get there.

I made a video about Forza a very long time ago.

Make sure the annotation is enabled(note: the video is 8 years old)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6ltSh8Jt1w

PCars handling kind of share the same issue as the cars are stable during hard braking. Very bad weight transition overall.

Gran Turismo, PGR series & GRID 2(not autosport) have that weight transition feeling.

Wow. Well that's a good way of conveying the validity of your opinion...

...I am a console only player, I'm not in the top 1% of console gamers and I'm not sitting at home pouring hours into the game. Oh, and I'm not on the minimum wage. I found DiRT challenging from the outset (actually I still am!), but I have a basic understanding of car handling and, although the game is a challenge, it's fair. I have already made vast improvements from when I first started playing and I continue to improve the more I play. I was also aware - because it was clearly stated on this forum and in every review that I have read on the game thus far - that this wasn't the sort of driving game I was going to pick up and ace straight away.

DiRT Rally is a very different racing game to Forza and, personally, I think it's laughable involving it in this conversation. But hey, we all have differing opinions on these matters. Obviously some gamers like to be able to pick up a game and be top of all the times straight away, and that's cool. There are plenty of games out there for that. DiRT Rally, for me anyway, is harking back to the style of older generation of games, but with a level of realism that has been lost from mainstream games. I like the fact that this is a driving game I need to be fully alert to play and that I have to concentrate for every corner.

I'm glad that Codemasters had the balls to make it and not dilute the experience. OK, there seem to be a handful of people who aren't receptive to it, but the vast majority of comments from PC and console gamers is nothing but praise.

It's challenging but that's the point isn't it? It may appear less immediately accessible because the terrain will do you over as much as the car will but that's rallying, you need to respect the environment and learn how each car performs. Hell most racing games are hard to get very good at, it's ok saying you can play DriveClub or Trackmania more easily but to get really good in those games you also have to practice, practice, practice and then practice again. Unless it's PCars which would just break because SMS overreached their capabilities :)

I've had many restarts, many crashes but that does not put me off, Dirt Rally is a gem of a rally game because it is like rally, respect it or it will try to kill you.

Absolutely! I had this thought in my mind just yesterday as I was reading these posts. That makes all the difference. You see that if you put some effort into it, it gets rewarded and you progress. So many games are difficult but you feel they get there by 'cheating', like those last minute goals you always take in FIFA when the AI team goes into God mode, or when in some F1 games you feel like the same physics don't apply to your car as they do to the AI cars (I remember in the first F1 game by CM, only your car was affected by fuel weight and they NEVER fixed it, which is why I never bought another one).

I understand the validity of it being challenging and people enjoying that; but the suggestion of adding settings or some method to make it easier seems to offend people. I don't have the time to put 100 hours in just to come in the top half of a race and coupled with the fact ive had so many wheel problems, I'm probably going to get rid of the game in the next week or so.

It's only offensive because too many people are demanding change for a game they shouldn't have purchased in the first place.

There's a market for difficult games, like Dark Souls III which has just been launched this week.
It's fine if people such as yourself don't enjoy the long and challenging grind, but other people suggesting that it's wrong to have a game like this because it goes against their preferences is ludicrous.

I can't help but be blunt when I say do your research. DR is a game that has been out for around a year now, and it's astounds me that certain folk are shocked when they're not playing the game they thought it was, just because they assumed rather than had knowledge of the game.

People fall into the consumer trap of hype, and pre-order games without truly knowing what they're getting into. Then a portion of those people will try to blame the devs for that person's own poor judgement.

I completely agree, although I do feel (not sure how much this would have helped) that Codies should have ditched the Dirt brand completely. Considering how different Dirt Rally is to previous Dirt games I think it warrants being branded as a new series. They've half done it by not calling it Dirt 4, but many people would have seen one trailer and gone "I liked Dirt 2/3, gonna pre-order this now" without doing any research. I know its not Codies, or any developers job to try and account for people that don't bother to do any research whatsoever and then blame the devs about it not being the game they expected, but still think a completely fresh start would have been better.

I have only owned an Xbox for a couple of weeks, so I must be REALLY amateur in comparison to you lad...

I started saving for it on the day of its official release, but on minimum wage, it took me a while at 10p a week.  Glad i got there for the release of DiRT, id hate to have missed that.  (I do worry about my electric bill these days....) :(

I find the AI far too inconsistent rather than difficult (Elite & Master). For instance, I can be 4-5 seconds ahead of the AI on Pant Mawr Reverse in the first sector, but by the second sector, I've suddenly almost lost that lead although driving like an absolute maniac. At the end of stage, I usually find myself in second place 2-3 seconds behind the leader.

In Greece, I can without much effort beat the AI on one stage with a second or two or more, but the next stage I'm finding myself 8-10 seconds behind by the third sector for...reasons? In Sweden I can slaughter the AI by 10+ seconds on almost each stage. I'm not making any sense of this and frankly, I think it has to be scaled better or else I can never see myself getting that trophy for beating the Masters Championship. I'm not asking for the game to be ''nerfed'', just more consistent AI times overall.

With that said (and aside), this game is GoAT material. Fantastic package all around and pure joy driving these cars.
