Dirt rally ps4 too hard to beat ai

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else think codemasters have went overboard with the difficulty of the ai on dirt rally. I'm a seasoned racer of the dirt franchise all the way back to the original Colin mcrae dirt and I've completed all off them, even if I don't mess up take every corner perfectly at high speeds the computer is still winning by over 30s of a gap and that's after 12 hours of racing. Now I noticed that in rally cross the ai can get a perfect off the line start everytime (even in an upgraded car from the start I can't even get one) and the only way to win is to bash into the ai at corners and over take. Codemasters need to do a patch or update lower the ai difficulty or they might be finding people will be looking for refunds. I'm personally going to give it another 10 hours playtime if it still has the same issue I'm asking for a refund.

12 hours is nothing compared to Porky's thousands of hours put in the game. No wonder he is the fastest in the leagues.

Rehearse over and over again till you better the cornering timing.

It's not too difficult. You just have to practice.
I've over 400 hrs on this game (starting from early access), and even though I'll beat the highest difficult AI most times, I'll still sometimes come second or third.

It's realistic and challenging, which isn't for everybody, but please give yourself a chance to improve. This isn't a plug and play game, in regards to difficulty.

Also, in regards to computer winning by 30 seconds, check some of the real life WRC, national and local rally results. You'll see drivers finishing 30 seconds+ ahead of each other a lot.

No patch is needed. Just get practicing.
I guess you should have done your research on a game which had been around for about a year before you bought it.

P.S.

"

This is a ridiculous comment when you're playing a game which requires a lot more discipline and patience. That's like buying Dark Souls without knowing what kind of game it is, and then moaning that you keep dying all the time because it's not a herp-derp hack and slash.

I have 450+ hours and have started from scratch on Console too.

Im not beating the AI 100% of the time, as my cars are not upgraded yet.  But that's part of the journey & Learning curve.  Once you get your upgrades, a feel for the cars and a knowledge of the stages, you'll get faster and you'll beat them.

If you want to Win without putting any effort in, you wont get very far, but hey, that's life!

The quick fix---> http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/40261/the-cheat-thread/p1

It's not about cheating, but more about why you struggle so much. It might help you to figure the problem.

I'm a mature student, so I juggle a job and a university degree.
The hours you put in don't have to be rushed. Bear in mind, a lot of us on this forum have been playing since around this time last year :]

Don't feel like you need to play catch-up with everybody else. This game is enjoyed when you go at your own pace.
To rack up 400 hours over a year you only have to put in around 8 hours per week, which isn't much at all.

oh jeez, it took me a days on xbox controller just to keep car on the road enough to finish a event (and not in top3). You guys need some patience and remember how every review told how hard, but rewarding it was when you finally get it right. I too work from nine to five.

Dirt Rally is for those who thinks improving is fun. If you just want to win all the time, go play something else.

For the record improving is not fun it's long boring and arduous. Everyone saying it's rewarding I'm sorry but for something be rewarding it has to reward you with something ie winning

You will win when you improve enough. There are many people that will destroy hardest AI in it's current form.
Don't look at 1st place yet, top 3 should be as good as a win at first.

rewards come for effort.

the reasons mainly for this game succeeding and getting the praise is because its harder.

practice put in effort you will get the rewards and progress. once you learn its not too hard to beat ai.

If you would participate in a real rally and came in 10th on your first (out of 25), I would already feel rewarded by the fact of being better than half of all participants. If you'd come in 5th on your second rally you would feel rewarded for improving a lot.

Reward is not about winning, but about achieving something, whatever that something is.

If achieving something means to you that you can easily win a competition with little effort, then this game might not be for your taste. (And most competitive real sports aren't either)

Going back to project cars would give you even more rage, that is the most frustrating game ive ever played. Total glitchfest never been so disappointed in a game ever. Sick of spending ages practicing qualifying etc only to be chucked to the blue screen and loose everything. How various magazines etc said it was the game of the year ill never know obviously they didn't play it properly

Yeah, Codemasters, I'm not happy either. When I loaded up DiRT Rally, I discovered that I have to pick up the controller and play the game myself. What's that all about? Could you not have the console do it for me? And none of the trophies are unlocked either. Turns out I have to play the game  to get those as well.

I just can't be doing with all the effort required.

So far I've only done a few hours or practice and testing to setup my wheel, options, preferences, etc, and then I reset my profile and started a career. Have done only 3 rally events so far with the Mini, no assists, have finished 2nd or 3rd on all of them and am 1st in the championship. So it seems good to me (maybe even too easy because I'm driving too cautiously, the Mini is a pain to turn). Haven't done rallycross yet though...

Ok, even though you seem to be the "If you have to do something, then it's no fun" type, here's a few tips:
- for Rallycross Supercars start with full revs on 3rd or 4th gear, depends on the car. That way you'll be first to the next corner every single time. Don't be discouraged that they'll have a quicker launch, you'll overtake them in a second, literally.
- for other cars, "perfect start" is all about managing the revs. You can't just launch from full revs and expect perfect launch. You need to manage them, something around 5-6k rpm for most cars, and if you're driving an FWD or RWD car, you can't go full throttle from the get go. You need to wait for the tires to properly gain traction before you can put the pedal to the metal
- brakes are very important. They not only serve as a way to slow yourself down, but also to position the car. Slowing down is faster than crashing. It's a fact at this point.
- listen to the pace notes and adjust your cornering speed and gearing accordingly. If you know there's a left 6, you can go flatout, but if you hear right 2, then you know you'll have to be slowing down a lot to be able to go through it. Also, on gravel you want to slide while on the tarmac it's the grip you should be aiming for
- use handbrake for the hairpins, especially with FWD and AWD cars. RWD usually doesn't require that, well, aside from Alpine and Renault 5.
- MOST IMPORTANT - forget about experience you have in other games. You start here as a rookie, everyone did. You need to re-learn everything you know. Don't think for one second that because you played other CMR and DiRT titles you'll have it easy here, because you won't. This game is for dedicated people.
- watch the in-game tutorials and actually take note of them. Not just "bla bla, I know this, what a waste of time".

It`s very very difficult game. I`m thinking that you have played for too short time, but i have to agree with you that it`s too difficult game and`i admit that its too difficult for me too. I`m just wondering why there is no choice of easier difficult level? whom does it harm, if there would be a choice for easier difficult level or easier championships or single rallys or something. Then you can start with those easier levels and gain more experience and move on to harder levels. I think that way i feel like it more enjoyable and entertaining.  Those who are already had great skills and can handle the car nearly perfect, just go with the harder level and can joy the game the same way what we average drivers. I think that the game would be more long lasting and enjoyable for many many players. My fear is that it`s not gonna sell very well cause it is so difficult and maybe be the dead punch for the dirt series.. I really hope that never gonna happend I have played every dirt rally games and really love them. Dirt 3 was my favorite, cause there were show driving, rallying, drifting and rally cross. It was great mix of those. I hope that dirt 5 gonna be something like that. Have to keep practicing, but i think that many players would give up and sell the game if they not starting to win races after week or two of playing. This was only my opinion.

I think you're probably not the target for this game. I don't want bloody show drifting in a rally game, and could lose rallycross two! I hated all that crap added to the latest Dirt Rally games, with that 'stoked bro' voice on top and stupid dice hanging from the rearview mirrors! It's CMR2 and RBR all the way for me, so glad this game is closer to that again (and halfway through my first championship I'm not finding it too hard, 2nd after 4 events seems fair, let's see if at some point I hit a brick wall of difficulty but so far I see progression possible).

I think they did well on PC with this, now it's a question of seeing if they have enough rally purists on consoles like those on PC who loved this 'back to rally basics' approach of this instalment. But the game was developed, if it bombs on consoles (which I doubt) I imagine it won't be a big deal for them, in fact making the game easier would instead require added time and money to get right.

@darkfauxeh - I'm kinda surprised. PCARS isn't exactly "easy". Especially if you're playing with AI difficulty past 90 and have minimal assists. I imagine that playing DiRT with a controller is probably harder to nuance your inputs enough. Rally racing is nothing like circuit racing, but considering all the time you've put into the other DiRT games, you already know this. I dunno, I'd suggest you stick with it. Maybe practice some stages (custom events - personal best time) so you can get to know the stages and get some visual cues (for braking points, turning points, power points, etc...) This way, you can re-start as much as you like and not have the pressure of needing to make up time so you can concentrate on learning the feel and handling. Victory will come later.

In all honesty, this is the first DiRT game I've ever played. And I agree, it's hard. But that's what I personally like about it. It took me about 9 hours of driving my Mini Cooper S before placing first in a stage and dude, I literally jumped for joy!! Stick with it, man. You won't regret it.

If not, WRC 5 is relatively easy compared to this. Maybe that's more your style? But I'd say stick with it, it's worth it.
