Dirt Rally - RallyCross, car almost stalls on grid

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I'm playing on xbox one using the standard controller and automatic gears. I have mostly been playing rallycross and last week I bought a 1600 207 which to my great surprise nearly stalls when you try to get of the grid, the AI cars just fly away in comparison. I have shortened the gears and managed to get one engine upgrade which seems to help somewhat but the other cars are still way faster and tend to bump you out of the way since you cant get away fast enough which is starting to get a bit annoying. So I wanted to ask if I should change something else in my setup, is this specific car bugged, or is this the game and I just have to hack it until all the upgrades are in place?

Cheers!

This thread will probably get closed as there are lots of others already about the same thing.

But its just practice basically. The upgrades help but won't magically make you launch quicker. I don't use default gear ratios but I use 2nd gear at the start and about 8,000 revs, then its just feathering the throttle to limit wheelspin. Sometimes I get a very good start, sometimes I don't get away anywhere near the AI as I get it wrong while trying something very slightly different. The S1600 cars are very sensitive in terms of what works and what doesn't at the start, they have a very narrow window of revs that launch the car optimally.

There's nowt wrong with the 207, I'm using one with auto gears and I've worked my way up to elite so far. It helps a great deal if you don't have any traction control etc turned on. I'm also using auto start so that means you can sit on the line revving the nuts of it and it sets off on its own when the light goes green and as mentioned just back the throttle off and feather it back on again to try and limit wheel spin? The AI cars slightly beat me off the line but I can usually pull it back before the 1st corner. The gearing does make a difference cos if you've got it wrong the car behind you tends to just push you out of the way :-)
another trick is to set one of your buttons as the clutch and enable it in the settings, this means that if you do bog the engine down you can press the clutch button let the revs rise and then dump the clutch which then sets you off again like a scolded cat.
Try setting your final drive on the gearbox about three quarters of the scale and start your !st gear about a third from the left and space the others out from there and see how you go but remember turn the traction control off if you haven't already :-)

I'll try without traction control before I start to fiddle with the gears, thanks for the tips!
