...People don't get rallying...

How would they if we're intentionally making it even harder for them to "get" it?

...You should really adjust that signature, it's stupidly long...

Its length is fueled by the stupid things I see people post.

You are just being lame with that signature... There should really be three to four row limit or something.
Hows this?

For the AI you need to compare the times of the 3rd guy. If you are a minute behind the 1st guy in Open, you could still be 3rd, try that in Masters and you're like 10th

Also, games don't need to be fun, they need to be compelling

Compelling means different things to different people though. Competing for a win in a local club cycle road race is compelling for those competing whereas competing for a place in the olympic team is on a completely different level. The point is that most sports (including real world rallying) have a vast number of ability levels. Ability can be time constrained, it doesn't stop people enjoying their hobbies and sports and putting their maximum effort in competing at their level and it can provide the incentive and desire to move to a higher level.

You don't get 5-year-olds started on math by throwing algebra at them in kindergarten.

If "learning" is the goal, high barriers-to-entry impede learning.

Learn to crawl before walking, learn to walk before running, & all that.

There are no 5 year olds here, and this is not math. I think it's good that Codemasters are treating the intended playerbase as human beings and not babies. We've been too spoiled with handholding games for the past ten years.

Babies are human beings. Just saying ;)

Yes but the point is, you have to meet halfway because the way it looks now we will continuously recieve requests for dumbing down the AI, while I agree that the difficulty is fine, but new players that aren't familiar with rally games but still enjoy it have a hard time because the entry level is still filled with very fast AI, many new players don't get that it's about persistence and survival, not about winning from the get go.

I just think this isn't very clear for new players, they keep comparing it to Dirt 1, 2 and 3.

You can filter out signatures by going to Account Options -> Preferences -> Signature settings. Both strip images as well as suppress entire signatures. It would be really nice if you could do it on a per-user basis, but it is better than nothing.

I dunno...I've personally never had so much fun losing. I'm only about 4500kms driven on the PS4, and I've won four rallies so far. The first was "professional" in Germany, in my Mini. Then another "professional" in Finland with my '95 Subaru. This past weekend, I won Monte Carlo in "elite"...and another "Finland" just last night...all in my '95 Subaru. I'll be starting my first "Elite" rally season tonight.

I say all of the above, because I too am used to winning in racing games. So much so, that I lose interest. It's not fun to lap people 2-3 times in an Endurance race in Gran Turismo or something. Where's the challenge?

What helped me get faster in rallies, was dominating the rally cross levels. That really gets you comfortable throwing your car around aggressively.
