Fix ditches (Wales especially)

Recommended Posts

there's nothing worse than losing a stage because you tapped a ditch and got fired literally 10 feet into the air, it's unrealistic, it's annoying, and it needs to be fixed

Never had much issue in Wales but Finland, well Finland can kiss my butt. It might be the canal boat nature of the Ford Escort though, either that or the ditches in Finland have some kind of magnetic power over it!

Seems the best contribution that most of this helpful & welcoming community will offer for discussion is likely to be:

I'm usually the first to do as you have done above, "get better soon" and stuff, but I think I'll agree this time. They're simply way too rough and could be a bit mushier, deeper and punishing not in a rolling way.

Well, sadly that's the only solution there is in the game's current state... stay clear of ditches. Didn't mean to come off as rude.

It's not about getting good, just staying clear of them - & some cars are worse than others when it comes to ditches. The group A Escort springs to mind... touch a ditch with that thing and you'll have to spend your summer at Neptune.

IRL the ditches in Finland are even less forgiving than they are in DiRT Rally. "ditch-hooking" as a way of cornering will be severely punished there.

I found a good solution through car setups for this. Hope it can help you.
It worked out for me specially for faster cars, in stages like Wales, Finland and Sweden. Raising suspension softness, raising car height (although keeping the front lower than the back-end) and softening anti-roll bar was a good way to keep it tidy and far from the ditches. The other one was lowering the "Fast Bump Threshold" and "Fast Rebound Threshold" sliders underneath "Damper settings".
This post can really help you with the theory behind it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=456484010.
But all I can say is that I play using dualshock controllers in the PS4, and got rid of the "Subaru Impreza flying of cliffs" problem I had when I got to the 90's Group A cars.
Again, hope it's of any help and it can make you more conscious that the physics behind the game actually make a lot of sense. Even when it throws your car because of the suspension and dampers maxing out it's kinectic energy load.

it's a problem with v2 physics. V1 physcis were great, then they changed them...

You know. Patching games is 99% of the times the worst thing to ever happen in gaming, when it should have been right the opposite thing in theory

You can uninstall the game and reinstall without the patches to enjoy the old good physics. Problem is that you'll findland, sweeden, germany and many cars

I would love them to also remove some of the trees... I'm not kidding... This game is soul crushing...

No, downforce a la F1 has nothing to do with rally. V1 physics wasn't right at all. I'm not saying V2 is almighty perfect though.

Wales and Greece are actually great punishing you of driving offroad. Finland is ditch driving 24/7 which is unrealistic as hell.

"12 inches" too deep into the apex here and what happens to master Colin?:

Exactly my problem, the Escort has caused me big issues in Finland because avoiding ditches is made all the more harder because I've not nailed the set up to be able to keep it more in line after all the bouncy jumps. I did ask in the set up thread but no one had any tips so I've tweaked and tinkered and made it a little better but even in a straight line of little bumps the Escort does not seem to like going in a straight line :)

Myeah it's god awful on gravel. Don't know why Codies made the car like this. It can't even keep up with cars in the same class on gravel; feels like it's missing suspension in addition to being down on power - but on tarmac it's pretty nice actually, and can compete as well.

It's a strange car in dire need of fixing.

I can handle the trees or at least appreciate why they are there but them advertising posts! What metal are they made out of because they will bring the car to a stand still at any speed, think they must be drilled down the earth's core  :D

It's great on tarmac, I'd won in Germany, managed to squeeze 2nd in Wales but have got to Finland and its a flippin nightmare because I never feel fully in control so find myself gingerly approaching anything below a 3 corner and as soon as I try to attack it more it tries to kill me! Luckily I'm fully upgraded now so pace is not an issue if I can keep it on track, if.
