I'm midway through the 23rd (of 24) stages for the monthly. Car is looking a little worse for wear, but I'm taking it nice and steady. Massive rock decides to jump out and smash the front of the car, which immediately prompts a "water temp rising" from Paul. It's OK Paul I say, I've got this. Just cruising to the finish when, to my horror, things go slow motion...

...I'm out due to engine damage. Just one stage to go and I would have finished my first monthly: F***ing rocks. F*** them. Looking all smug and solid sitting there at the side of the road.

Was it one of those RNG rocks that appear on the road sometimes? Those'll really ruin your day. They seem to do more damage than the roadside rocks.

Hmm, it's not clear if the strut through the turret was the cause of hitting a rock, or the result.

I would've broken the disc in half that happened to me :sweat_smile:

Luckily I made it through all stages and eneded up at 56th place last time I checked. F....ing Wales almost got me in the beggining though.

I have no final position. Now I have two days to keep looking at a long list of stage times, a Retired and one last stage that I can't do. I'm guessing that all the experience I built up on the car will be lost as well.

did similar last month for the monthly. it was the kit cars. worse thing is i was on my last steam achievement :D

so for this month i just drove through at a leisurely pace. :p

That's gutting to watch @JonTucker, must have been absolutely infuriating for you. At least I had the luxury of quitting to the menu and starting something else!

Yeah, I had the trophy for the monthly in my sights, I shall be doing next months stages at a very sedate pace!

@JonTucker looks like you hit the left bank, there was something sharp sticking out, did it broke off your wheel?
Any other damage besides the wheel?

Yep. Sainz lobbed his helmet through the back window of the Corolla! I'm sure Makkinen was away from the rally when he was told he had won the title.

Yeah I think he was at home when he got the news! Similarly, my brother won his championship whilst sat at home watching tv when his rival had the smallest of spins and got beached right on the edge of the stage. There was a picture of it somewhere, and you wouldn't have thought in a million years that it wouldn't be able to get out of where it was

Pretty sure it was Moya that threw the helmet, at least that's what my mental image memory tells me! I also remember people filming Mäkinen while he answered a phonecall informing him about his new title.

Ah, my mistake. I just have an image in my head of someone throwing their helmet through the window, I must have (mistakenly) assumed it was Sainz!

Huh, i thought it was Carlos that threw it too, wouldn't have guessed Moya, but it's not impossible.

And yes, they were filming Tommy at home when he got the call, odd way to win a title :)  

Watching him grind to a halt *right* before the finish line with the engine boiling over was the weirdest sight though!
