DiRT Rally Road Book - 06/05/16

It’s time for this week’s Road Book! And firstly, thanks for everyone’s feedback on DiRT Rally v1.1, and all of the feedback we’ve had from our console fans. Because we’ve been looking into different issues across all platforms, we’re being careful not to rush anything out. We don’t want to release a patch only to find that something else needs work too, but we’ve missed the boat on it – which is why we’re taking our time to ensure we’re pushing something out which will have a wholly positive impact.

Some of the fixes we’re looking at do have a big knock-on effects – so these take longer to fix and test, due to the scope of the problem or the frequency of the issue. Because of this, we can’t say when a patch will be ready – but one is coming, and we’re hoping it’ll be here soon.

We’re also aware that people have been experiencing issues using RaceNet, particularly if they’re playing on Xbox One. If you’ve been having the same issues, please head over to this reddit thread to help us identify what’s going on:

Special event reminder

Don’t forget, our first special event of the season arrives this weekend! Our Special Event tab has been lying dormant for a little while now, but it’s been kick-started back into action with Argolis event this weekend! From 11am today, the event’s been open – and it’ll be open until Monday 11am GMT. Make sure you hit it this weekend... in between watching the European Rally Championship round in Greece, of course. ;)

FIA World Rallycross Championship

Talking of things to watch, the FIA World Rallycross Championship returns this weekend! And this time, the action’s coming live from Hockenheimring. After a stunning season opener in Portugal, we’re hoping this race weekend’s going to bring us more of the same action we’ve come to know and love from World Rallycross. Catch up with April’s race right here:

While we’re on World Rallycross, their tyre partners put together an awesome video with some of the Arsenal FC squad. If you didn’t catch it earlier on in the week, don’t worry – we have it here for you! The RX drivers should probably keep their feet to pedals, rather than balls though...

Hangin’ with Hatward - sort of

Darren’s not been in this week – but luckily for you, he told me about what he wanted to talk about in this week’s studio update. Last week we updated RaceNet to make some changes to CREST, and those changes are now active – so here’s what’s new:

·        Players displayed on telemetry tool are now highlighted in the leaderboard.

·        Telemetry now displays use of the handbrake (black line on stage and flashing handbrake light in telemetry).

·        Telemetry has a proper model for the car.

·        It’s now easier to change playback speed (dropdown rather than toggle).

Head over to https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/telemetry/0 to check out the changes, and let us know what you think!

Sorry if it has been answered before but are there any additional rallycross tracks planned for the future?
I love the details in the existing ones and it would be awesome to have more than just 3.

I don't want to sound pushy because I've mentioned it multiple times in threads before but I can't help myself to not bring it up for serious consideration. please fix the issue with the gear change delay in the Polo WRC, i20, and Countryman. They're not on par with the Fiesta.

Hi all,

Just to give you an update on the patch - we've managed to fix quite a few of the big issues you've raised. We're confident that the next patch will fix the following:

·        Certain cars on Wales (Night & Rain) would have a striped reflection on the windscreen - Console

·        AI in Rallycross (Classics & 1600s) now have varied starts – All

·        Oculus functionality previously available on DiRT Rally - PC

·        Excessive rattling with certain wheels – All

·        Inconsistent motion blur effect - PC

We're also looking at hopefully having a fix for RaceNet's connectivity issues (especially on Xbox) as soon as possible, and this will come before the patch. More on that as it comes!

·        Inconsistent motion blur effect - PC

Don't want to sound stingy, but most PC players would prefer if the motion blur effect had it's own toggle in the graphical preset and not be tied with shader detail. That way people would fix that inconsistent motion blur effect by turning it off :D

This is on my hitlist for the next project.  Breaking it out now is unlikely.

Well, at least we know that Early Access from DR will benefit the next game (yep, it's been mentioned since the start xD). It's something :D

It also makes my life easier for testing that results are showing for leaderboards, so I am all for it.

first thing every game = turn off motion blur.

just give option for it off.
Well, I don't know about you, but I like motion blur effect in some games. Witcher 3 and Dark Souls for example. Generally all the action adventure/RPG games. Racing games, sure I can agree, but not every game. Good motion blur increases immersion by a huge margin.

Graphical settings impact the results showing on leaderboards? Crikey, that's some unexpected relation there xD

I was having a brain fart and thinking of other features, sorry!  I have mentioned the breaking out of graphics settings.  Motion blur is one that people want more control of.
