Almost forgot. I am using this setup for my DS4 controller

You can't eat soup with chop-sticks

Rally is all about feedback.  You get none from a controller.

My advice is: Look for a cheap used Logi DFGT. It'll be a game-changer - I promise!

I get plenty of feedback from the controller, although a wheel is better (as I'm finding after MarkRipp on here gave me one :) ) But I do feel a controller gives a good level of feedback too

DFGT doesn't work with PS4. Only right choice for this console is GF G29 or TH500rs but prices on Polish conditions are ridiculously high.
We have 360-400EUR monthly, DF G29  costs 362EUR without shifter, Used costs 250-260EUR ;)

Oh, you are PS4?  Yeah, G29 all the way.  You need the right tools for the job, or you can't do the job

I remember back in the day when Richard Burns Rally came out. Playing that on a keyboard was a challenge! It was tons of fun, but I just had to accept that I wouldn't be able to set fast times. (Luckily this was in the dark ages of the internet, so I didn't know of any forums I could go off to and sulk.)

Analog sticks give you more control than a keyboard, but it's still a huge leap to wheel&pedals.
Can you even do "left foot braking" with a controller?

I had a go at DR with a wheel last week. It was the second time I've ever used a wheel for a driving game (the first was on the d-box rig at Codemasters!) and I couldn't get anywhere near my controller times.

Sure that will improve with practice though, so I am still intending to pick up a wheel at some point.

Yes. Rear triggers works as pedals. The harder you press R2/L2 trigger the faster or slower u get speed up or brake.
It works with multiouch so uyou can simulate heel and toe ;)

I don't really get on with the triggers: I'm using X for accelerate, square for brake and the triggers for gears. Clutch is on L1.

Thumb covers the accelerator, index finger for the brake and handbrake, middle finger for gear up.

Left thumb steers, left index finger for clutch and left middle finger for gear down.

For the very few times I've played any racing game with a controller, I've always used the left thumbstick for steering and the right thumbstick for acceleration/brake

First mistake: playing with gamepad.

Thats all I´m going to say on this thread. (after reading all pages and waiting for the imminent ban)

Don't buy into the whole using a gamepad is your problem. The game is very playable with a controller and the right person can be very competitive against wheel users. A wheel will obviously give you more feel etc but playing on Xbox with a controller I get a great amount of feel for loss of front/rear traction, understeer/oversteer etc.

You can not require that each player had wheel.
The same applies to game developers.
People play on what they have and games should enable  fun with both controllers.

I would be happy when game developers give me a G29 as a gift or they will sell game included with wheel and price ~60EURO if they can not make this game playable on DS4 on X1 controller.
Oh and I don't see  on gamebox info about wheel required :)

It's not required.  Kinda like the soup spoon

You'd get through your soup with the chopsticks too, it'd just be quite difficult, frustrating and not just as fast as the spoon users.

ya get me?

All this controller hate is making me sad. I'm just a controller guy, trying to find my way in a wheel-user world.

We made the game to be very playable on controllers and wheels.  It is also technically playable on guitars if you really want to on PC.

Terrible!  Those guys never built any motors to their guitars so you get no responses at all.  The Guitar Hero guys never consulted us despite seeing each other in the pub all the time.

You know, steering wheel is also a controller, so all those hating "controllers" are also hating their own steering wheels ;)

don't listen to the bots telling you to get a wheel to be faster. I have a wheel too (t300 gte), and say you can be faster with the controller. Just trust me. Some people freak out just too hard, like these others saying dirt rally AI is beatable lol

You mean that 100 players which this game is made ? Or that few fanboys beyond which no one speaks ?
This game have ~800k players, this forum have maybe 20 different users and this topic have max 6 debaters. Maths 100/20/6 < 800k so how you can tell "everyone who plays, loves it"  LoL !
No, they mean the pc buyers who bought enough copies to convince the Codies management to release it on consoles. Without them (the people you are aguing with, ironically) you wouldn't even be able to play the game because it wouldn't have got a console release. If you meant the number of people who originally asked for the game to be this hard, you actually only mean around 10 of us, and it would have been even harder had we gotten everything we asked for.

This thread needs locking at this point.
