haydn23
I think I'm one of the very few people form Portsmouth who would have voted stay if I were old enough. 2 years away from voting you do the maths of how old I am ;)

Platy
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36637037Reading this article and it sounds like the refenderum was pointless.Boris Johnson says the UK will continue to "intensify" cooperation with the EU following its vote to leave the EU.The leading pro-Leave campaigner said exit supporters must accept the 52-48 result was "not entirely overwhelming".His column said: "I cannot stress too much that Britain is part of Europe, and always will be."There will still be intense and intensifying European cooperation and partnership in a huge number of fields: the arts, the sciences, the universities, and on improving the environment."EU citizens living in this country will have their rights fully protected, and the same goes for British citizens living in the EU."British people will still be able to go and work in the EU; to live; to travel; to study; to buy homes and to settle down. As the German equivalent of the CBI - the BDI - has very sensibly reminded us, there will continue to be free trade, and access to the single market.""The only change - and it will not come in any great rush - is that the UK will extricate itself from the EU's extraordinary and opaque system of legislation: the vast and growing corpus of law enacted by a European Court of Justice from which there can be no appeal." We would have pretty much everything without the EU, including trade. And you don't mention what we gain from being out the EU, such as having complete control over our own fishing waters and actually being more of a democracy. Why can't people stop complaining and understand they lost the vote, deal with it and stop believing in all of the through the media.

People don't have to just "accept it". Until the government invokes Article 50 we're still a part of the EU, and given that the leader of the leave campaign is too much of a pussy to run for PM now because he didn't actually want to win the referendum, there's no guarantees that it will be invoked. The government may decide that staying within the EEA is the best choice (it is btw). So we'll still have to abide by the "hideous" EU regulations and still be subject to freedom of movement of labour to continue our trade. Around 50% of our trade is with the EU, we can trade freely with other EU nations (i.e. no tariffs or barriers). If we leave the EU then we lose this, ultimately this might not mean much other than prices rising. Or it could lead to manufacturers (biggest one off the top of my head is Nissan) leaving the UK to get back into free trade market. Being out of the free trade market will affect the financial industry in London, probably doesn't matter to you, but there's a lot of income from tax that comes from that sector and losing that will be a big problem for the budget. But it's not like it's been a week since the vote and the leave campaign still haven't announced a plan for what to do. Nor have they been quoted as saying they didn't have a plan, and that their two main points were actually lies. Oh wait...https://twitter.com/simonnricketts/status/747055676413845504https://twitter.com/C4Ciaran/status/746994066190180352http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36628894But it's lies by the media apparently.Anyway, tell me some actual good things about why leaving the EU is the best idea for Britain? Because it's been a week and I've yet to hear any reasons why.
Moderator f1since08 Posted July 3, 2016 Author Moderator Share Posted July 3, 2016 Posts edited due to language.Platy is exactly right in what he says. We're yet to hear anything about what will happen and whatever happens it'll be worse than staying in.We have three choices:Stay in the EEA. This will give us access to the free market (which is pivotal to the UK economy) but we'll still be bound by EU regulations and have to pay into the EU - but not reap any of the subsidies that are given back and will be unable to have a say in the laws.Leave the EEA. In this case, tariffs will be applied to goods - both on our exports to the EU and on our imports from the EU. If this happens, companies which depend on free trade will have little choice but to leave the UK - costing jobs. Lower employment means people have less money, leading to less spending and lower tax receipts. This is really bad for the economy. Furthermore, prices will rise due to the tariffs, but people have less money to spend on goods as they're unemployed so don't bother buying them. Companies start producing less, leading to job losses and you can see where this goes...Don't trade with the EU. This doesn't bare thinking about. In other words, we've achieved nothing other than becoming the most hated nation in Europe.
