The F1 2016 Beta - codes

Recommended Posts

Another idea could to be after this lot of 300 have played and given feedback after a week or so, they choose a different 300 people to have a go...

Feedback from handselected people is always better then a larger open beta with a lot of people who have no intention of giving feedback. I didn't get a code, but I agree with the way they are doing things. It makes a lot of sense from an IT/game development perspective.

:'( I really bloody wish that Codemasters just gave everyone that did the sign up sheet a code because people are going to get jealous and be upset because they didn't get one. Like I'm sad that I didn't get one and I'm never picked for anything
Exactly. The more people the more reliable the feedback is and the forums would not have exploded with when are the codes released.
The more people, the more chance people will leak the game. Do you really think when 5000 people get a beta code they will get good feedback? I'm sure they get better feedback from 300 people who they selected.
Actually yes. In science it suggests any form of data feedback is more reliable with more valid candidates. There is a reason why good games like uncharted provided an open multiplayer beta so that it was better in the final game. And look what happened? Also it is not even the full game so everything is the same as f1 2015 besides the handling so it wouldn't really give anything away if it was leaked.

Yeah but more people more good feedback I'm sure probably 40% of the people that have got the beta don't give a monkeys about the handling they just want to see what the graphics look like or someone of topic.

Actually, the opposite is probably true. If I want to get things done in my dayjob, then the less people I have at a meeting the faster things get done. The more people I invited, the longer it takes. So main priority is to get the right people to the table and no-one else. Same applies here.

Maybe CM will host a bigger open-beta at a later stage before the main release of the game. I hope so.

Guys, with all due respect to those who have signed up recently, a number of us have been here for a number of years discussing the games, names that the producers and community managers will know, and will have seen us discussing our thoughts on the games going all the way back to 2010. They are obviously the types that are going to be chosen because CM know what they are gonna get from them, honest but productive feedback and support. That isn't the same as someone who signed up early this week and keeps posting "I love F1 & Codemasters". This is an important part of the development process, and they need known quantities.

If it makes you feel better, I, and I truly believe the other guys, will do all they can to produce a solid base of feedback for the game. This is a great initiative from CM, and one that will benefit us all in the long run, as long we do it sensibly.

I agree with you partly, but an open beta would have been more logical and beneficial

Depends what you're testing. For multiplayer, sure, it makes sense to stress the servers and generate as many unpredictable scenarios as possible.

But this isn't a multiplayer beta. And when you're just testing for bugs or similar issues, the number of unique issues you find drops off very quickly with the number of testers. For usability tests, in fact, it's been repeatedly found that 15 people is usually more than enough to uncover the vast majority of issues.

And yes, also of course, some poor bugger has to sit down and triage all the feedback. And it's simply not feasible to do that accurately or quickly enough if you have thousands of participants all (hopefully) giving you screeds of detailed information.

It would have also been Chaos, they can't just let everyone play it, they might aswell release the game! They need a condensed amount of in depth feedback from people they can trust.Unfortunately that means some people would be disappointed. I honestly thought I was going to be one of those.

Yes but I am sure there will be a greater proportion of people who would be willing to give useful advice in 1000 people compared to a mere 300.

I think that in a  months time or whatever they should have a multiplayer beta, so we can test out lag issues, performance, and see if they sorted out track limits from the time trial beta. Also if they want to add anything to the game like a safety rating for online.

Btw I'm not gonna give my code to anyone (please stop messaging me!) I'd rather Jenny/Codemasters let me know what I need to do.
