BDA escort mk2 pleaseeeee :)

im sure i seen something about soundfx going to record one maybe i am wrong :#

just watching this now and there is a few nice cars in there we dont have which would be amazing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og4UXHiC8fE

just asked about the BDA engine noise and got this back

Nope! The escort 'sound' is a late 1960's Datsun Roadster. Was used in Dirt2 also. Dirt3 was changed to Colins Millington.
.But people said it sounded like a strimmer! (always at top of RPM in auto gears) so for DR I went back to the Roadster engine

dgeesi0, Interesting ! can you confirm who you asked and where that info on the roadster engine sound came from ?

it was soundfx ( Dave sullivan ) the main codies sound guy ;)

Thanks dgeesi0,  It would be great if Codies could record one, there are hundreds if not thousands of BDA / BDG powered Mk2's still rallying across the UK and Europe, shouldn't be a problem to record one properly ? There are two engine sounds that one experiences in life that are hauntingly unforgettable, first the Rolls Royce Merlin V12 (the sound of victory) and the BDA / BDG at full tit reverberating in the forest. Check this out and crank those speakers at 022 .... awesome !  Maybe you could draw Dave Sullivan's attention to this ?

There is nothing, I mean nothing, like the sound of Weber DCOE 40s or 45s on full song.

We grow old!

I rarely drive the Escort because it bothers me.

I used to rally Escorts in real life. My last one was an ex-works car I bought from Boreham. LVX 947 J

A Mk I RS1600 with a Terry Hoyle 1860 iron block BDA.

Very nice, I campaigned a Mk2 Mexico (1.6 Lotus) late70's to early 80's at club level in S.Wales with reasonable success but had to quit due to the crippling cost. I am pushing hard for a Boreham or Sutton Mk2 in DR as I hope it will evolve to the point where us old farts can really enjoy the pure nostalgia of those golden years of  Group 4 rallying. We have got the location that Codies have done beautifully, now just need the right cars with the right sounds = happy days !

Totally with you on that one cjl9, here's some Mk1 magic for you, whack the speakers up when the car is out of sight.

It could be that they haven't had the chance to properly record an escort. Not that they dont want to.

Yeeees. I approve of this.

This is why I love the Fulvia's sound in game :)

I don't think you need to tell them: all the conversations we've had with the sound guys on here indicate that they know their stuff when it comes to cars (and they are more than aware of the cars that need more appropriate sounds added! ;) )

I am in no doubt that the sound guys do know their stuff so I am confident that great things will happen with a bit of time. I am throwing down a challenge for the sound team to re-create the engine noise reverberation for all cars when in the forest as per the two video's I posted earlier. For those that have not experienced it for real, trust me, when you do, it will haunt you for the rest of your life. I will never forget the 1981 RAC, Keilder forest, 3am, pitch black, totally silent, freezing my cobblers off, just waiting, then it happens, first the cars lights way in the distance, then the noise getting closer and louder, reverberating off the trees and hillsides like a massive internal combustion orchestra,  Mikkola, Vatanen, Arikkala, Brookes, Clark, Waldegaard, Toivonen, McRae, Pond et al in their group 4 chargers blasting by us then howling off into the night. Hairs on the back of the neck stuff, just incredible and truly unforgettable. I feel very fortunate to have been able to experience it and I hope it can be re-created in DR. It will take the enjoyment level for real petrol heads to a whole new level.

Wow! Takes me back to the nights I spent in forests just waiting. As you said...distant lights flickering through the trees, then...the noise!

Midnattssolsrallyt(The Midnight Sun Rally) is to be run quite close to me here in Sweden in early July. Gonna be lots and lots of classic awesome cars and drivers. Looking forward to heading out in the woods :)

Maybe it's just me, but I'd hate actually going to a rally event. It seems like all you do is stand in a cold, dark, rainy forest for hours and every 20 minutes or so a car goes by on the straight stretch of road you're in front of, kicks up a rock, and launches it directly into your gonads at 100mph. I'd honestly rather sit at home and actually watch them go through the whole course.

Yes, true, what can I say? We're all mad.

Spent too much of my time in cold Welsh forests. And don't get me started on running a Time Control on a night-time road rally.

I guess. For me it's also partly the same reason I don't watch sports of any kind. I'd rather just go do it. Sure, my crappy car might not be a rally tuned whatever have you, but it's still fun to throw around a bit. At least until my super soft suspension bottoms out and I slam into the ground....

If you've never experienced the sound of a BDG/BDA engine approach and pass you at full speed through the trees live you haven't truly experienced the essence of rally ;)

Turbos and anti lag does nothing for me. They just sound "meh" compared to high revving NA engines.

The cars are normally a bit closer together than 20 minutes: you'd be on a stage all week if they were that far apart!

I daresay rally requires more effort to follow than other motorsports, but there are few (if any) other sports that provide such a spectacle to watch live. There is some fantastic rally coverage out there but, in my personal opinion, none of it truly conveys the sensation of a car flying past you sideways at 100 MPH.

As others have said, whatever your fave type of car is, hearing the sound of the engine bouncing off the trees as it approaches you through a forest is pretty special. Again that's something you can get the sensation of in videos, but you have to be there to truly appreciate it.

The only issue with rallying (at least here in the UK) is that it is confined to the North now, so it involves considerable travel to get to a rally.

Thats a shame JZ, if you get an opportunity I highly recommend it, you will be so glad you did, it is quite spectacular ! It is comfortable and safe as long as you prepare properly and follow the basic safety rules, day or night stages, wrap up warm with a back pack with hot coffee, food and a brolly, always stand inside a corner to avoid flying gravel, pick a spot so you can see the cars coming from yonder and way past you. Its some 35 years since my competitor /spectator days but I will never forget it as long as I live, some of the happiest days of my life !  In my day, the cars were about 5 mins apart, close enough that occasionally competitors would catch and overtake the car in front on a stage, I witnessed Penti Arikkala in his HSR do to it to Tony Ponds TR8, sneaked inside him on a hairpin in Hafren, Wales, exiting stuff to watch ! Pick up Ford Motor Co DVD called "A little bit sideways" they caught it on video !

Cars used to run at one minute intervals.

Hafren! I caught my one and two minute men in Hafren on the Welsh one year.

See, where I live we do the Baja type stuff. For the most part not as technical (some of those dirt trails can be killer though) but it's a lot cheaper to get into I think. My dads friend owns a sandrail shop where he custom builds them and they're awesome. It's basically a few hundred pounds of steel tubing, and a turbocharged V8 in glorious RWD, and they'll get serious air. And people don't have a problem owning 2-4-5 seaters and taking you along. All in all, yeah, I'd still rather not sit on the sidelines. A ride along I'm all for, but standing on the side doesn't do much for me. It's like watching Nascar, yeah, it's loud, it's fast, it's dangerous, but until someone slams into the wall, it's not very interesting.
