F1 2016 VR-Compatible?!

Recommended Posts

People need to actually try a game like AC or PCars in VR. forget triple screens. The immersion you get from actually being in the cockpit is game changing. Fair enough, you need a Rift or a Vive and a decent PC, but once you try it, you can't go back to a monitor. I know I can't. Just glad you can mod in AC, so you get all the F1 cars.

I really don't think VR will be worth it, until they have eye tracking, you might have seen a piece that Sky Sports F1 did with Force India where Hulkenberg used some glasses that gave a view from inside his helmet, and also showed where he was looking

You really don't know what you're talking about untill you have tried VR .  It's almost like they invented VR for race games.  It would be totally unacceptable if a dedicated race game developer like Codemasters would not implement VR in their next title

It's like launching a race game............................ without cockpit interiors B)

Let me put in my vote for 2016 VR support.  Just got a Vive Thursday...played PCars today.  OMG...depth perception to my front wing and other cars.  Turning my head to avoid traffic.  Only problem was bumping another car and spinning.  Serious motion sickness.

It really does make it an amazing experience.

Even though I haven't used VR before. I understand the massive leap in technology. It would be just amazing using this on a pure F1 game. I have saw LGR's video on project cars using the HTC Vive and it looks fantastic and looks worth the money.

Why would they not have VR support, when they have it for Dirt Rally?

Just been playing Dirt Rally with my Rift and GTX 1080, wonderful, brilliant, sublime experience.

I am sure we will get VR support if not at launch, then very soon after.

I have a 40 inch 4k monitor (Phillips) which looks great, but the Rift is x10 better experience.

They wouldn't focus on the VR, they would focus on the game. It's a possibility in the future but for now I would rather have a great game than a good game with VR support.

As this is being released on steam and I use a PC, I would expect the PC VR support (when it is finally included) to be on the HTC Vive as per project cars.

For the person who asked what a racing game was like using VR, let me tell you my experience with project cars (noting I have used VR for many games).

When I entered project cars it was unbelievable, like you were really there. It was incredible to look around and see silverstone and the cars around you. The playability, also phenominal. Seriously like driving the real thing. Fully immersive.

Now, the downside, for me anyway. Having completed 4 laps, I had to rip the headset off and head for the toilet as I felt extremely sick. Unusual, as I have mentioned, I have played all sorts of VR games but this is the first driving one.

Also, play any racing game sat in a chair with sides as when I went round the first corner I nearly fell off the chair.

Hope this helps.

I just hope f1 2016 will support it but think it will be to early to get an answer from codemaster or maybe the game will come out a bit to early before the vr headset for it to be supported
i think its not to early to say, if they implement it in the game they have already made it. If you implement VR in a game you will have to know it up front before you develop the game (or right after starting)
Maybe we learn more from the E3 launch

That's absolute nonsense.

It doesn't matter if you control the viewing angle with the mouse in your hand or your the funny Thing on your head. To implement TrackIR e.g. it's about 3 lines of Code!

To get the graphics rendered on 2 different viewports is another Story. Takes more time to implement. But doable, no matter if you thougt about VR in the initial design process. Take a look @ Dirt Rally, or better, pCars. When has the development startetd for pCars? 3 years ago? 4 years ago? I can't remember, sorry. 3 - 4 years ago not even Oculus VR could have known that they will hit the streets on January 6th, 2016. You really think Slightly Mad had ressources free for a technique not sure to be available when their product will be released (May 7th, 2015, nearly one year BEFORE Oculus Rift!)? They implemented it post release.

To come to another Point of "VR". It's useless in any Kind of racing-game or racing sim or flight-game or flight sim, IMHO.
At least as it is now. OK, I can look around, I have this 3D-View. But that's it.
Let's have a look @ my racing-rig:
 - Pedals -> no Need to look to find the right pedal.
 - Steering Wheel -> I find this blind as well, even the shift pedals an the Buttons / D-Pad on the front.
 - 8-gear shifter H-pattern -> My muscle-brain knows where it is, and I can remember the gear I'm in.
 - sequential shifter -> Even this knows my muscle-brain.
 - Handbrake -> Still no Need to look @ it.
 - Button-Box(es) -> Now Things start to be complicated:
    - Physical Button-Box: I can feel the Buttons under my fingers, but I always take a short glance to be sure to hit the righhht one.
    - Virtual Button-Box: Hit the wrong button & your race is over!

Maybe you can now see my disregards about VR @ the current state. As Long as I don't see my virtual arms and fingers in the virtual world moving like my real arms do it's just a nogo. With triple-monitors and trackIR I have more immension. OK, I lack the 3D view, maybe. Funny shutter-glasses can do the trick. But at what cost? Half the Resolution, or half the framerate. Both is a nogo for me.

Tbh Codies had so many issues with F1 2015 to fix and also putting in new features and stuff, that i am kinda glad that there is no VR support, as they have focused on the right areas of the game. VR is only an option, you the game is a stable platform, like Dirt Rally. I hope though that F1 2017 will get VR support, becasue then there should be a heatlhy customer base for VR

You need to "Actually" try a racing sim like Assetto Corsa or a flight sim like Ellite Dangerous / Aerofly FS2. before saying its useless.

People who say its rubbish or useless for sims, havent tried it. Its game changing for racing games.

As with others, I'll have a look later at this game when VR is inplemented or may skip it to 2017. if it dosn't appear in 16.

I gave VR a try, and came to the conclusion I mentioned in my posting.

Actually being in the cockpit is much more immersive then looking at 3 monitors. Fair enough, the resolution needs to be improved which it will with future versions but for racing sims, its amazing. You must of had a couple of dodgy Rifts / Vive. Everyone who has tried my Rift has been jaw dropped

AC is incredible with it and i can't see me going back to looking at a monitor for racing sims. Hence, me skipping this years F1.
