What do you want in F1 2014? GAME IDEAS

Recommended Posts

This thread can be used for generating fan ideas for F1 2014 and fixes that need to be made from F1 2013! I will get the ball rolling with this video I made a while back talking about issues with the F1 games since 2010! Let's really get this thread going to give Codies a good pool for seeing what fans want!

Here's my current F1 2014 Wish List:

  • Fix the controls so controllers aren't faster than wheels
  • Allow results to be exported on PC, or have a feature that automatically publishes results online (can then be downloaded in text or csv format)
  • Allow the host to define grid positions for online races (necessary when there's a restart, or for applying grid penalties)
  • Use dedicated servers instead of P2P
  • Create a realistic handling, physics, and force feedback model (see iRacing)
  • Laser scan all tracks so they're not flat/dead surfaces
  • Real world setup values and not a 1 to 11 scale
  • Add a Force Cockpit option for online races
  • 22 Player Grids
  • Pit boards and a better race engineer so we can turn off our OSD
  • Fix corner cutting (4 tires outside white lines = warning or penalty)
  • Bring back the ability to setup several online races at once where the results from one would deteremine the grid (or reversed grid) for the next, as per F1 2011
  • Graphics that are at least on par with modern titles like Forza 5 and Project CARS
  • Keep the base setup constant for each track - just show us what values have been changed
  • Manual Pit Stops
  • Realistic damage model
  • With One-Shot Qualifying, show the weather forecast for the race.
  • Online practice sessions, and the ability to practice with online settings in single player.

I would suggest:
  • More intelligent race engineer.
  • An option to change the level of dialogue from the engineer. (Experienced players don't need to hear things like 'remember, you can use DRS when within 1 second of the car ahead' or 'this is exactly what we need, push, push' (not as though he knows anything about strategy!))
  • An option to request for an update on the weather.
  • Allow players to rev to 15k rpm instead of short shifting (doesn't matter how it's done- no fuel flow limit, fewer gears, etc.) so that the cars sound like proper racing machines rather than lawnmowers.
  • A realistic damage option- slightly brushing the wall with your front wheel in Monaco should end your race instead of just causing the car to bounce off the wall.

Fixes:
  • Fix the online lag where cars are teleporting forwards and backwards.
  • Fix the kerbs on certain tracks (mainly Abu Dhabi). I am sick of getting auto-spun on that track. You guys managed to make a track with a nice layout into a nightmare to drive on.
  • Fix the sidepod glitch where you spin out if you touch the side of a car.
  • Fix the audio glitch where car sounds just fade in and out randomly.
  • Fix the glitch where people get auto-retired online during quali and their car stays on track and blocks other people who are trying to set a lap.

Things I like about F1 2013:
  • Although a lot of people don't like the higher tyre wear system in F1 2013, I do like it. It makes races A LOT more interesting and strategy has a key role in races now.
  • You have to be careful on the throttle when not using traction control. This introduces a bit more skill into the racing especially in the wet.
Ideas:
  • Maybe introduce some sort of league system online.
  • Make single player career more interesting. I got to Malaysia before I got bored and stopped.

Extra:
Please do not reintroduce bugs from the past into F1 2014. Keep the online cars equal, make sure everyone can go just as fast no matter what their frame rate is (PC) etc.
League racing has a huge part in the F1 2013 community so maybe introduce some features to benefit league racing or at least fix the horror which is online racing on F1.

I agree about leaving tire wear as it is.  Re-introducing that to F1 2013 was by far the best thing about the game.  Please don't change that again, Codies!  Unlike F1 2012, F1 2013 races are once again about strategyin addition to the racing which is exactly how Formula 1 should be.

I also have just a couple things off the top of my head that I'd like to see in 2014 in terms of immersion. That's always been the biggest selling point for me for any game. I want to be immersed. I want to feel like I can get away for a few hours from my real life, and be in a different world.

Firstly, as I'm sure a lot of people have talked about, is updating the race engineer. I understand there were thousands of lines of dialog and reusing them was much more time efficient, however, I'd love to see a new engineers voice with all new dialog. But more importantly, it would be great if he had maybe 3 or 4 different phrases for the same issue, and which ever one he said was randomized. At least that way we wouldn't be hearing the exact same thing all the time for one radio message. In essence, we just want a more lifelike, immersive race engineer.

Secondly, the before and especially after race animations and cut scenes. I was shocked to see the same ones reused from 2012 to 2013. All I'd like to see is new and improved ones. How about stuff like the podium winners meeting up in green room with towels and water congradulating each other? Or them coming out around the corner onto the podium and raising their hands to the crowd on the tarmac? Heck, let's go even further and have them spraying each other and the podium girls with champagne lol? Yeah I know that last one might be a little far fetched, but we're just looking for something different Codies.

I still play and absolutely love F1 2013 because it is a great game; I'm just hoping F1 2014 and Codemasters truly take advantage of the next gen capabilities and blow us away.

I would ilke to see the Amateur AI pace either brought down or a new level at beginner level too as the Amateur level as it stands is just too fast and aggressive and having to use cheats to get around this in 2013 isn't really on

For on;ine I'd only like to see the bug fixed there the AI is treated as an Online player, and can cause massive internet lag.

One thing that i think would be nice and add a bit of the realistic feel to the game is the ability to control your car in the pits.  This 'automatic take over' is very unrealistic.  Let drivers be able to control their pit speed and control and get penalties if they forget to engage the speed limiter.  It would add that sense of realism we are missing. :)

I want:
  • Better penalties
  • More realistic damage
  • Less tyre wear (2013 is ruined by tyre wear for me)
  • The paddock menu to come back
  • All 3 practice sessions
  • Interviews to return
  • Optional commentary
  • FOM Graphics
  • Real life-like timing screens
  • Weather radar & TV Feed in the garage

I don't know about anyone else, but I loved the before and after parts of the race weekends in F1 2010, where you had the press interviews! Yeah maybe it wasn't everyones cup of tea but you could always add the option to turn it off! I just think it would add a little something to Career mode, maybe expanding it so you could earn sponsors for yourself and your team. I like the idea of doing well in press interviews helps your public appeal, thus helping you attracts sponsors! If you don't do well, no one wants to work with you! I was gutted when I got F1 2012 and it had gone!

For me, with the power of the new consoles, there has absolutely got to be some improvements to the atmospherics of the game. Things like warm up and cool down laps and podiums are really nagged for I know, but this is the point where you have to bring them in.

However, I'm thinking more of tension-building tv-like build up, a buzzing grid, a busy pit lane. Also some introduction to the circuits as I 'arrive' just to bring some variation to it. Have a cutscene of me walking in to the paddock or something with the media haranguing me. Show me a track map, flick through some stats and records, some actual footage of classic moments. All things that can be done with the new hardware.

On the racing side, there needs to be more variables like accidents and things. I'd love to see an AI buried in the wall or stuck in the gravel (and for them not to disappear as I drive past). And most of all, the engineer needs massive improvements. Give me a radio button with some information toggles and have the engineer speak back to me about whatever it is I've selected. You could even do it through Playstation Camera/headset or Kinect.

Out of the car, I want feedback from my engineer in my motor-home (bring that back) about who's looking quick, what we're expecting from our car for the weekend, our strengths and weaknesses (some rationale for the objectives), what we can improve (some generic voiceovers and then show me my telemetry or something).

I would like:
  • Practice sessions have a "Work Program" of several mini-objectives that help the team develop the car overall. This would give the sessions more useful and make each time that you're on track more important (as it should)
  • The ability to spectate when sitting in the garage (either while repairs are being done or you're just waiting)
  • Bring back Interviews (they were kinda fun to interact with)
  • Pit Assist can be turned off completely
  • Car reliability should be more important. Perhaps make practice running improve reliabity and more than just KERS and DRS. Engine, Gearbox, Electronics, Suspension should all be more fragile.
  • I know I'll get flak for this but: Mantle Support. It has a huge impact on my system and I want one of these to be just me being selfish :)
  • Damage modeling. It's time to improve this.

It really depends on what Codemasters want to make....

- Reliability, Drive-ability and Realism (Graphics, player interaction etc.) all need to be brought forward a step.

Keep tire management challenging and dont forget about this years fuel management. People will complain about difficulty so just give them an easy mode right off the bat. But PLEASE ensure that AI are fully simulated and suffer from tire wear and fuel issues based on their difficulty level and that they dont run perfect runs with maximum tire life and perfect fuel management every race. If an AI car should make mistakes like spins or lock ups and it should affect their tire wear resulting in slower laps and early pits. AI shouldnt be capable of driving like superhumans on worn tires. They should be fast and challenging in perfect condition but suffer the same as we do as a result of wear and damage.

And please let us hear the DRS beep :)

I would love to see a number of things if they could be done: 1) if people want interviews instead of in the paddock how about on the grid with the real Martin Brundle asking the questions 2) one of the early games not sure it was a codemasters game or not but they did the warm up lap. Also would love to see the warm down lap as well so you can do a Vettel 3) if someone hits you they get a pen not you!! And also it will be on both ps3 and ps4!!

agreed I think that's part of the problem with 2013 too in that the AI doesn't ever slow down or get's affected by things like the player does. I think though as long as they can get that right and adjust the difficulties so that the lowest level is on par with the driving aisd within the game like they were in the first 3 games then if they want to add the more sim like stuff for the moer hardcore player thwen I'm not against it. They seem to be having problems in trying to decide 2whether to cater for one or the other when really they should be catering for both. Most games seem to be able to do this so it is a little strange to see games that can't

I know this may not be a popular one, but stick to nextgen and pc and leave 360 and ps3 behind. I've seen too many next gen games held back so that compatible last gen ports are easy to make. Move on, utilize power thats available without compatibilty handicaps and give people a reason to upgrade.

Racing in a League - Leagues are the mass majority of people to keep playing these games up to the release of the next.

  • Online Practice Sessions are a must. So much time is wasted having to restart the qualifying session. Which causes no online high fuel runs to be tested. (15 minutes is not long enough, why is there no online practice - like there is single player practice)
  • Controller users shouldn't have any advantages, therefore equal.
  • The host of the server should be able to chose where each driver starts if necessary.
  • Setups which actually mean something, not 1-11.
  • 22 Player Grids

Sorry for back to backs but editing is hard on my phone.

TELEMETRY! Something similar to forza 4 where we can view telemetry during replays even if it doesnt include actual visual camera replays, just tire/fuel/camber/suspension data post race or practice. Maybe even view recent laps telemetry replay from the garage between laps during practice. Must include tire temp across the surface of the tire so we can make precise camber adjustments without making a tiny change, running a lap, another tiny change, run another lap and make subjective decisions on the cars performance. Real data so we can tune our cars more like a real f1 team would be capable of.

Please :)

+1,000,000. Fully agree. 2013 was released at the end of the 360's life cycle, and it doesn't make any sense to have 2014 available on last gen consoles. If those people want to continue on their 360's and PS3's, then they can just play 2013. There is no intention of making this point to cause an uproar; it's just some of us firmly believe that we should not be penalized with our new consoles just to cater to those who can't or won't upgrade to next gen.

Very nice to see the forum back up!  On to some recommendations:

1) We need to be able to practice online EQUAL cars offline, or add an equal cars setting to offline GP mode.  At the current moment is it such a pain to do this unless you are online and with someone starting and remaking quali sessions to get any sort of online equal league race practice.

2) Online Practice session - EX) practice only - and also Full Race weekend w/ practice.

3) Host of the lobby can set the grid, and really just have more control in general, especially with kicking etc.  Also a better way to find and sort public lobbies.

4) Formation lap, cool down lap, an option to manually pit if possible.

5) More immersion with Podiums and celebrations, national anthems etc.

6) Keep the first 2 damage steps, but make realistic MORE realistic for the highest damage setting.

7) A setting to add more harshness to cutting a corner and hitting the grass.  It doesn't have to be an insane jump, but just less forgiving.

8) A more realistic start procedure with the launch off the line other than just pressing on the gas pedal by itself.

9)There are still a few turns where corner cutting presents a problem.  I can think of Monza especially.  There are some other places as well.

10) Better force feedback for wheels, plus a better guide of how to first set up the wheel.  It took me a whole season to get the wheel to feel as good as it could.

Also please keep these current features:

1) Tire wear - This model is super good.  People complain but I feel it may be due to career mode before they get a higher tire wear upgrade and while they are driving a low tier car.  Online it is great and was has been really making competitive races.

2) Rubbering of track and racing line. - very nice feature, can feel the added grip as the race matures

I do not want to complain too much because I have enjoyed this game much more than any other F1 title so far, but I think these recommendations could really make a great game!

Coming from a league perspective, dedicated servers, a better penalty system and equal cars are a must. Of course, 22 player grids etc would be lovely too.
