Will Codemasters Allow Mods?

Recommended Posts

Mods brought life into the game in 2014... and it really made me sad that the files were encrypted in 2015... D:
And with the HYPE for 2016, really the thing that would put the icing on the cake is allowing mods!
You could really make the game Yours in 2014, and i hope for the same in 2016!

Codemasters have never allowed mods. But that didn't stop modders from figuring out tools to extract liveries and database physics settings. In F1 2015 Codemasters redid much of their game and also changed their file structure. So the old modding tools mod longer worked. By now I know at least the liveries work again for F1 2015. Hopefully we'll be once again able to edit some stuff in F1 2016.

F1 2015 mods have been taken off from racedepartment due to this.

Yep, it was also FOM (or FIA, forget which) who made CM encrypt the models etc. in F1 2015 to actively prevent modding. In previous years, CM had got away with just not actively encouraging modding, even though it was possible.

What absolute nonsense.

Its kinda sad in a way that license holders and developers take such a strong stance against modding. You only need to look at the most popular PC games to see that modding is a great way to generate interest in your game and improve sales. Would Skyrim have sold as many PC copies(10 million on steam) without modding? Not a chance.

I am mainly a console player but I still bought F1 every year on steam so I could try out the latest mods, liveries etc. F1 2015 was so mod unfriendly that I only have 30 minutes played on PC compared to almost 50 hours on F1 2013.

F1 2015 is my least played title of the F1 series. While not the main reason, no modding certainly contributed to my lack of interest.

I think 2013 is mine I did 4 seasons of career mode before I just gave up on it. Haven' t touched it since. I may go back to it eventually for the classics and such as I do enjoy racing them, but I'm busy with other stuff right now

That's strange. 2013 was my all time favourite and "most" played. However, it was the mod ability of that title that made it a great game. My version is nothing like the vanilla release, you can change just about everything on that title.

It's mostly down to the fact in that I just found the AI too aggressive for my liking. I end up having to drive like Maldonado in order to compete with them and even then it's not easy.

That's the problem. Skyrim isn't a yearly release. Modding is a great thing for games that aren't released every 1-2 years but bad for those which are. Some people by one game every 2-5 years and update their game with modding and that has a huge impact on sales.

It's the same reason in every sports game that has annual releases. There isn't much modding in FIFA, PES, NHL, NBA and so on. People wouldn't buy the game every year if they could update players/drivers/cars/graphics/etc easily all by themselves at home.

mods are not all roses and ice cream. Even the best made mods are a head ache to get working right without effecting how other parts of the game functions. Not saying the guys doing they mods are not talented, I am just saying the nature of modding games that usually includes a trade off of how the game functions when using mods.

Yeah mods are great for RPG's or for games that don't release every year unfortunately not so good for the F1 series. In fact currently using a couple of cosmetic mods on my DAI character atm Lara Travelyan as I'm using a hairstyle that's not in the vanilla game and a mod that allows you to wear a companions armour on the Inquisitor as well. I kind of based her off Lara Croft but it didn't quite work as well as I'd intended. and managed first  time around when I practiced with her. She's turned out pretty enough though that I'm happy to play the story through with her though. But your right yearly release games in general aren't great for modding. PES is alright if you don't mind playing with the settings a little bit but really that's the only yearly release one that kind of allows it. But generally the mods for that game only work on PC and even then sometimes not reliably

This is true, but there used to be so many of them, you could pretty much pick and choose to find the really good ones + I used to do a lot of my own modding and in 2013 I have the the tire wear (both AI and player), difficulty level, weather etc pretty much exactly as I like it.

yeah I have an extra grip mod which allows me drive better in F1 2013 as well but that's the only mod I have for any of CM's games. Haven't got it installed at the moment but then I don't have 2013 installed atm anyway on my machine.

They do allow mods, but it is the FOM that restricts them because they are arseholes and don't understand anything about gaming and that sponsorships, etc. not appearing doesn't even really effect anything.

Fom always Fom ...........**** this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are so annoying, imposing restrictions is actually losing them money as it means less people will buy the game. They don't understand the modern world and are living in the past. I can't see how driver changes or new liverys (through mods) can even realistically bother the FOM with reason. It doesn't affect them badly by not restricting anything.
