Can someone explain safety car pit stops to me

You want to pit  as soon as, so when you come out, you'll be ahead of maybe a few and when you bunch up, people in front will have to pit. So you gain a lot of time

As a veteran of earlier games that had the SC, I can tell you that it's tremendously exciting when the SC car comes out.  Particularly in Multiplayer.  It changes the whole dynamic of the race, gives you a bit of a breather and gives a bit of variety to gameplay.   Pitting at the right moment, catching the pack, weaving to warm your tyres and accelerating/braking to warm your brakes is all part of the fun.  This is why so many of us wanted it back for 2016.

As F1 doesn't have the IndyCar/2007 or 2008 rule of closing the pit lane, you literally drive into the pits when you want. That's why I pit ASAP. You don't lose as much track position.

Thats what i mean what is the optimal time to pit under safety car say its out for 6 laps you dont go in on 4th lap when the field has come together

usually a time it's likely to come out or shortly after Ideally you'd want to time it so you do it on the lap it comes out on if your close to the pit lane at the time that is but if it's like the SC we had in the earlier games then it likely won't be out any longer than 1 or 2 laps.

you wont do the same thing every time the safety car comes out. You have to consider who your racing and how smart they are. If the AI is programmed to pit everytime the saftety comes out then your decision to pit is based on how fresh your tires on the car are.  If your tires are fairly new ( mostly in longer races were the tire wear is stretched out more) then you would stay out and jump those cars. If your racing multi player and the people your racing against think they need to pit simply because the safety comes out. Then if your tires are fairly fresh then you would stay out and jump them.  Your decision to pit is based on wether you think you can push your tires currently on the car longer than planned and match the next time the AI/multiplayer (that just got new tires) will pit. That is your pit window. The lap you originally planned to pit is the beginning of it and the lap that that you now have to make it to because you stayed out is the end of it.

Yeah i know it all depends on rubber freshness but i meant if your at the first pitstop window and the safety car comes out could you wait till all cars are together or what is the correct time to come in when its out i know they kinda do it as its called rather than wait

well then yea, if your sure every car will pit. Whats making you pick up spots is making it in and out of the pits before everyone else letting you jump them as they finally make it into the pits and you, having already pit, stays out . If you wait and bunch up and then follow everyone into the pits at the same time your not jumping anyone. Your just pitting the same time they are and following them in and out. Pit the first time past the pits after safety car is call out if your sure all cars will pit.

Does anyone remember what the AI did in 2014 when the safety car came out? I don't even think they pitted at all during the safety car did they?
