VR Update ... Now Released - Yay !

Recommended Posts

I gotta say that tonight is first time I have had the chance to really get stuck in and play Dirt Rally in VR since the new update. Last time was way back September '15 when I still had a Dk2.   This is FREAKIN' AMAZING !!!  Honestly I am just gobsmacked how good dRally has become with this really, really good VR implementation  :)

Huge Thanks & Congratulatons to all the guys/gals at Codies who made this happen ... over on the Oculus Forums people are saying how great this is and first title they reckon is worth buying a VR headset for ... I thought that was going over the top but after racing Finland at night just now I gotta say it is absolutely true.  Anyone who love dRally really has to beg, borrow or steal a ride with an Oculus Rift to experience how insanely intense & immersive this is. All I can say is FECKING HELL Yeah !!!!

The Devs responsible for this deserve an Award and they truly have to share this Tech with the Team making the Formula One title because it would really make that Rock too.  B)

With all the rave reviews i am getting very tempted to make the  jump into vr, but i i have one question, whats the situation if you wear glasses, does the headset allow for this ?

I don't own a VR set but i wear glasses and I often remove them when playing DR (my monitor sits close enough). So my question is do you need your glasses when you have VR "monitors" VERY close to your eyes? It would be nice to hear from someone with experience in this field :)

I am long sighted and I don't need glasses for the CV1 as you focus into the distance even though the screen is up against your eyes. Whereas I am wearing glasses to type this using a monitor.

I wonder if there is any difference in case of short sighted users. Are they able to see clearly long distance objects since they theoretically are displayed right in front of their eyes? But then again, I think that @dynt meant the comfort aspect of wearing VR headset with glasses on ;)

I think this really varies from person to person - I am short sighted left eye & long sighted in right eye. When gaming on my 40 inch monitor I have it pretty close and I need to wear glasses although they are a mild 1.5x lense focus whereas if I am reading on the monitor I need stronger glasses.  However the strange thing is that when gaming on the Rift I do not use my glasses at all and can read text easily.  People using glasses have mixed results because the Rift does not accomodate them very well, however there is now a kickstarter for several products to help with glasses in the Rift. If you check out the Oculus forums you can get more detailed information and comments from users.

that sort of helps, i use similar 1.75 om my 40 inch 4k at 1.20m, while my triple i use 2.25 glasses, which are closer,
also is cv1 the best available at the moment or is there a upgrade due ?

For VR you either have Oculus Rift CV1 or HTC Vive ... though rumor is a new Vive may be released before end of year, but only rumor and I guess if you wait long enough there will  be a new Rift most certainly with higher definition visuals but then you will need an even beefier rig to manage it.  Try one out if you can,  older gamers like me think the resolution is fine but we came from the era of 8 bit graphics  ;)  Seems the new age of gamers want the highest visual fidelity like yesterday and that will never be good enough ... sucks to be them !

Man it is bizarre seeing someone going by my old handle... I never thought I'd see someone resuse my old name ramjet77..

Anywho... Dirt Rally in Rift CV1.... most epic driving experience on PC ever! I'm running a SimVibe tactile setup too and the whole thing 'feels' like I'm in a mid air jump, landing is brutal and rocketing up hills and dips really feel like your chest rises and falls.

It's exhilarating! Thankyou Codemasters... honestly.. thankyou!

RamjetX sounds like a New Age version but I have been Roger Ramjet ever since sitting glued to the spot every afternoon watching the black&white TV as a small boy back in the 60's !  So if you are also that old you are welcome to share the name  ;)
ps. 77 just happens be a Lucky Number  :)

Is there any way you can enhance the sense of speed when using VR? For me it feels like the cars are moving to slowly compared to the speed. Maybe through working the .ini files?
