F1 V10 game? How has this not happened?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

1st time posting and a long time player of the GRID series (apart from 2) and F1.

F1 2015 was great but I think the majority of people will agree the V10 era was the best. Why hasnt there been a spinoff that let's you play say 98-2004 and develop the cars etc.

You dabbled with inclusion of the 99 Ferrari a couple games back and that was great.

We've seen DIRT regularly include older era cars why not f1? Truth be told it would probably outsell the current era titles!

Thanks

because the license CM has only covers the current season to get the stuff your asking for it has to be licensed separately which costs more also the F1 stuff is quite hard and extremely expensive to license.

Would make commercial sense if the game sold which I'd have a feeling it would.

Don't forget this has actually been done before by another publisher, not new ground here.

Also there are at least 6 teams who were present back then. Red bull (for some of it possibly all as they bought Jaguar), Ferrari, Mclaren, Williams, Toro rosso (some of it), Sauber off the top of my head.
So if you had the license for those guys can't see why they'd care if you used an older car

Simple answer, why has it not happen? v10's era is over, We had some classic content from Codies in the past. It was not done well as far as handling goes. Its hard to go to the past. Many variables play against it.

With F1 they have the license to use all the teams and drivers of the current year. If they want to go retro they have to deal with the teams separately. This can take a long time. Look at the 2013 edition where they only could get a handful of cars because they couldn't get the rights because most teams had different owners back then.

And no to mention... some teams do not even exist anymore.

Dirt has classic/other eras cars as recently as DIRT 3. And from the trailers looks like the Colin Mcrae Subaru has made yet another appearance in the new one. So not sure that's it either.

Especially if we expand this outwards and look at other race series that have cars from all different eras. Not sure if I can mention the names but big IPs for PlayStation and Xbox.

Also a recent game that has project in the title has WEC cars, classic f1 and more.

Does the developer come into the forums it would be interesting to get their perspective.

Can't compare dirt series to Formula 1. Total different licenses.

To get onto the F1 grid costs money and it's hard. So most new teams bought old ones including their IPs so licensing can't be too much of an issue. These include Force India buying Jordan. Red Bull bought Jaguar, Minard was bought by Toro Rosso, Mercedes bought brawn which was Honda etc.

So again must be possible.

The cars you talk about in Playstation games are probably just manufacturers cars. These are deals with manufacturers and take years. For formula 1 you don't deal with manufacturers but with the teams? Totally different because the teams don't need their cars in games to sell more cars.

Neither do manufacturers when the cars in the games are obsolete out of production models.

I'm not sure the rules of the forum but I'm pretty sure you know the race series I'm talking about.

Again this isn't new ground is has actually been done before in Formula 1. Just asking why Codemasters hasn't done this?

I am sure codemasters would love to have old cars and tracks.  However the licencing of F1 is total hell so the amount of hoops you'd have to jump through not to mention the money involved just makes the whole process unviable.  Sucks but thats the way they work sadly.

You can post titles here. You mean Gran Turismo I guess? Sure the cars are obsolete. But if you get a vintage Mercedes you wil get 6 new models.

Codemasters has already done it with F1 2013 that's why we know how hard it is for them got retro cars in the game.

Indeed and it took them a while just to get those cars cleared to use apparently according to Steve Hood a the time.

I have literally referenced this game several times during this post.

Don't play it for the same reason I don't play Gran Turismo 3

Sorry didn't realize you could post titles.
And I don't mind the age of the car only reason I made the obsolete comment was a reply to someone else on this thread.

Product in 2016 is stellar. Just because we don't have old cars nobody cares about does not make it a bad product.

It's not the cars per se. It's the "racing" and the rules. WEC and Indy both produce better racing than f1 these days.

It's been too long since they've actually been flat out that and the rules make it seem more than a bit artificial.

Also respect the heritage of f1 of whichever era. Because without those "old cars" there would be no f1 and you would not have these new ones!
