Upgrades for the following season

Recommended Posts

I have a few questions on upgrades:

-If I start at McLaren, for example, and I upgrade their engine a few times. If I then move team at the end of S1, when I arrive at the new team what upgrades will be in place? Will it be the upgrades that the AI has implemented and will McLaren keep the upgrades I chose for them?

-Do the car performances and upgrades carry over to the next season? So, say Ferrari are the quickest car at the end of S1, will they be the quickest car at the start of S2?

Finally, not a question but an idea, with the whole upgrade system, pre-season testing would be a nice feature! Even if it was just a few practice sessions at a non-calender track, like Jerez.

We've asked this questions a couple of times already but no one from devs wants to answer...

Very concerning. I read that it is possible to get a Manor to the front of the grid over the career mode. Must surely mean upgrades stay

Upgrades stay ofcourse. You cant get Manor to the front in one season...but still its possible that you will have all 25 upgrades available every season unless the first ones are quick to get but 3rd 4th and 5th one will take a lot of R&D points. I dont know why they keep silent about simple thnigs like this...

I just hope the team performances sliders don't reset or rescale at the end of a season.

Yeah but the interesting thing is what's going to happen with the rest of the teams. For example, if you take McLaren to second team in terms of performance and then you go to Mercedes (I.E.), the next year McLaren will start with the same performance as in season one?

I just hope that the bothering FOM rules don't have effect here.

Would be nice to have some clarity on this. I can imagine some teams throwing up a fuss about not wanting to be shown as potentially being slow in the game.

Biggest thing for me is to confirm if the team bars degrade to some degree between seasons otherwise towards the latter part of career you are going to have nearly all teams maxed out.

I've read that they can't decrease

I really want to save my resource points and take them to to other teams like Mclaren as I want to start with red bull get a championship and the second I get that championship I want to go to Mclaren.

no they won't they will constantly be on the move from season to season only the upgrade paths will be reset I think as they'll be incorporated into the design of the next car. At least that's how I think it'll work unfortunately CM haven't come out and explained the whole development system yet. I'm just going by what I've seen in the videos and kind of thinking how it looks like it works. Unfortunately there are some things we're not going to find out about until we get the game and it's starting to look like this is going to be one of them.

/I suspect in this situation if you get McLaren up there they'll stay near the topuntil and if others catch them kind of like the F1 2010-12 games it won't reset unless you start a new career mode. Which of course I assme you won't until you've completed your 10 seasons I know I certainly won't at least anyway.

can you achieve max upgrades within 2/3 seasons? and then what? you have the most dominant car but unable to upgrade further?

I'm going to assume some DLC will have something to do with it.

Aarava - a youtuber who got a preview build - said codemasters might make it harder to upgrade like less research points earned and stuff

You would think that say you get Redbull as the top team at the end of the season all the sliders reset, but Redbull being the top team at the start of the new season ? This would make sense. I just hope the sliders don't stay the same at the start of new seasons, for example if you get manor on the same level as Renault and Sauber but at the start of the next season they go back to the worst car.

The entire point of the development race is to beat other teams by climbing up the 'ladder', the bars will stay the same because it's progressing in time in the game therefore saving the progress you've made

Ok, so the higher up the ladder you go the more expensive the upgrades get therefore slower your progress down.
Yep, and different upgrades cost different amounts of tokens depending on how good it is I think.

I will let myself do max 3 or 4 upgrades per season. I dont want it to make easy.

I'm guessing the time and costs can all be tweaked if and when a patch were to be released. If that is a day 1 patch then I can see why there is still no comment as it may still be up in the air on how many points each upgrade costs and earned from sessions and the time each upgrade takes. It may be possible that some upgrades take 5-6 race weekends to be implemented. Or some of the last few upgrades in each part of the car may be for the next years car.

That's not how it works in real life at all. You get resource points working for THAT team, doing tasks for THAT team, developing THAT team. It's not a personal thing that the player carries, as it's a TEAM thing.

I think sliders should reset but not to original positions. It maybe one year a team produce a dog of a car and they are playing catch up all season. Your r&d should push a car in the right direction but the start of each season the sliders move around a little bit.

basically this the R&D portion of career won't be very engaging if its just an endless upward curve until you reach the end because then once you've reached a full bar whats the point of that section of the game?  There is none unless you move on but then you'd have the other issue of eventually everyone would just be at the full bar and then you're not actually progressing the team up the grid you are basically hitting the parity.

ultimately its 2 weeks and we'll know for sure but I hope they've not been so short sighted as to not have some degree of degrading on your progress year on year.
