Upgrades for the following season

Recommended Posts

I think it will work like this:

The sliders start in the same position each season, as you upgrade they move around, teams moving in front of others. As said in the videos no one moves back. However if that was the case eventually all 11 teams will probably end up with full bars after 10 years.

So I guess at the end of the season the game notes the order of the teams and then re-starts the following season with the teams in the new order but the bars back to the default positions so you can upgrade again.

So for example after season 1 the teams are in the same order as most have upgraded at a similar rate (let's say Mercedes have filled their bar), with the exception of Manor who have jumped Sauber and Renault.

For the start of season 2 the teams start in their new order with Manor now 3rd last BUT the bars are reset back down to their default positions. I don't see how else it can work otherwise if the bars are left in their season ending positions teams that have fully upgraded have nowhere else to go.

So in summary teams move around and you can take a team from bottom to top but the upgrades and bars reset at the end of the season. The only thing that moves are the teams.

Or, it works like this...

Let's surmise that a full performance bar is 100% and, for instance, Manor starts at 30% performance at the beginning of S1. That would leave 70% of the upgrade bar to be filled up over the next 10 years. (Remember, you can always win career mode quicker, for instance by winning two seasons, if that for example is one of the career winning criteria.)

This 70% is split over the 10 years (you probably get more in the first year than the rest) and can only be achieved if you get maximum R&D points each year over those 10 years. So, for instance, if you don't get any R&D points (only an example) in S2 and 100% of R&D points in S1 and S3-S10, then at the end of S10 you'd have around 93% of the upgrade bar. (This is assuming that each year is worth an equal 1 tenth (7% of the performance bar in the case of Manor), which it probably won't be.)

So, in the case of Mercedes who, for instance, starts at 60% performance, this would then leave 40% of performance to be achieved over the 10 years if someone were to attain all R&D points over those 10 years. All things being equal, this would give you 4% per year of R&D to achieve for Mercedes.

This way you wouldn't have to reset any bars for any teams, just rearrange the orders when one team fell behind or moved ahead in order of performance as the seasons progressed, mid season or otherwise.

I guess we'll find out how it really works in 13 days.

Hope it will be so! This is the way that makes  sense to do 10 years, to jump with a bad team to the top you have to stay by them.
But I would like to know if teams with only AI driver are able to upgrade?

The other teams (with AI drivers) will also gain performance throughout seasons.

yeah all teams will make progress throughout the career mode but how much progress your team makes and where is ultimately  under your control

I would prefer if the tiers had like different multiplier on spending resources. So if you would bring McLaren as a number 2 team, once you leave McLaren they will spend less on R&D then the original tier 1 teams and will eventually end up in the tier 2 again.

It could happen in that when you leave a team they decide to go in a different direction but we won't know until the game comes out though. Buit they'll always likely at least start where you kind of finish with them though.
