Pit Stop Ideas

Recommended Posts

Just had a thought for F1 2017 next year regarding the pit stops.

There needs to be more involvement with the player in terms of how his/her race turns out. Nowadays, we can choose our strategy, manually start, and enter the pits as fast as we want, which is great but what about "manual" pit stops. If you haven't seen F1 Championship Edition 2006 pit stops, go watch now, but if you have then what if F1 2017 had something similar to that? So, not only do we have to brake for the line into the pit lane, but what about some sort of involvement with making sure the pitstop is fast and error free? Much like real life, there are mistakes from the pit crew that can cost you time, places, and most importantly points!

I feel this would be an awesome implementation that would make for more exciting, and player skill dependant racing to determine whether or not we finish on the podium, or win the race!

Thanks
Nanners

I agree that a bit more involvement would be nice. I personally haven't seen pit stops on F1 Championship Edition 2006, but a bit more involvement would be nice, even if it is hard to code. I do remember on Grand Prix 3 when you made your pit stop you could choose how many laps of fuel put into your car (they had mid race refuelling back in 1998) as well as the tyre compound. I don't think it would be possible for the player to be involved, but a pit crew member making a mistake would be a nice way to spice things up!

Manual pit lane, manual stop at the right spot and than manual release of clutch when green light shows up would be enough for me...

It would be nice if the pit stops would be same idea as the CE. Press only 4 buttons for each of the tires, and the buttons would be random every time.. Would spice up the pits a bit  ;D

For me no you have no control over your pitstops so it makes no sense having little minigames like that in the game. I hated those  mini games which was why I stuck to 3 lap races when playing F1 CE so I could play the game without having to go through al that. It makes sense to have manual starts  formation laps and manual entry to the pitlane as the driver has full control over that. The team controls the pitstop not the driver.

Sjsharp2010, but this is a game remember, not real life. Maybe more involvement in braking for your box, selecting first, and accelerating? If you've played rFactor you'd know what I'm talking about.

True but the game puts you in the position of the driver not the team and for me I'd rather stick to the driving elements especially given that job is tough enough already Although I haven't played R factor I have played F1 CE s it was the first game I got back in the day for my PS3 so I know it well enough.

I have the theory that when you drive the car, you control the car in the pits. Leave control of the pit crew to games where you manage the team. But seeing mistakes by the crew would make things interesting.

Yes the driving elements are what I am getting at. Maybe the "mini game" side isn't the best idea, but completely manual pit stops would be awesome.

I want a totally manual pit stop, but no to do a sequence of buttons for they do a correct one.
I mean, put limiter, drive between my mechanicals, stop the car, put first gear and start when the light turn to green and finally quit the limiter to exit pitlane!!!

What I think it should be improved in the pitstops is the sound. I mean, even if you are watching a race on TV, the mechanics work sounds are quite loud, what reminds you the adrenaline a moment like that can take in. Unfortunately, that's something you can't feel when you make a pitstop in F1 2016 and the previews games, because the noise from the pitstop are very low. And also the way that the driver goes into the pit crew is still so aggresive. What do you think guys?

yeah seeing the pit crew maybe making a random occasional bad pitstop here and there might be interesting but I wouldn't want any minigames involved in that though. Because in my opinion the driver has zero control over that and shouldn't. The driver only has control over what happens out on the track.

best solution is same with pit entry, u gotta slow down before the line.... for pit stops i would say u must hit the throttle when the crew have finished. if u try and leave to early it could cost u time and if u leave to late again it will cost u time

In my view yet another pointless waste of programming effort which will do little but make the CM F1 franchise into even more of a arcade waste of money.
