F1 2016 Multi-player Network

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about how will be play F1 Online.
My ping average is 15ms.
This is considered acceptable?
I'm from Brazil.
The ping don't depend exclusively of me, yeah?
Because there's more variables like the another players,
The server of Codemasters, sure?

I don't know my connection is fine on f1 2015 so hopefully it is good on f1 2016

Test your ping for me, please?

When you play, feel a delay, something perceptible?

15ms is pretty good ping although I'd assume you're testing against a server in Brazil. This means that if the lobby host is in Europe, for example, your ping will increase significantly which could cause issues. Hopefully the online will be stable enough to cope with long distance connections like these though.

Yes, you said it all!
My test is based in my country,
so depend of to where the impulse will go,
for back after.

I could take the test between my country and Europe,
near the UK.

I have 200ms/300ms on average ping.

It was just that I have a base,
because I know that the conditions here can be very different.

It can be a problem?

200-300ms can definitely be problematic and will probably cause some lag. Only if you play against Europeans, not if you play against Brazilians.

YouTubers xMattyG, Noble, Aarava and Tiametmarduk have a running joke called "lag bubble". This is mainly around Tiametmarduk (Ben) who is in Australia and so lags on the screens of the other players who are all in the UK. I would say that trying to play against players on the other side of the world would cause issues, but not with those close to home. The best way is to wait and see, but be careful for some lag with European players.

Would 150ms-200ms be acceptable at the least?

(From Bahrain, testing on a French server)
Maybe not. A good internet connection would have a ping speed of around 10ms. I have an okay connection, but I get around 116ms (the tester gave me a grade of D). Maybe a bit less would be better. Try for a sub 100ms for a good connection.

Thanks for the response.

I was able to have lag free races in F1 2012
with the same speed, so hopefully it's the same for F1 2016

I don't really know much about ping speeds. I do know that when I play games like Project Cars and GTA V I get very little lag with an average internet speed.

it isn't about the internet speed, it's about the time it takes to exchange information between you and the host of the server. A high ping is the most likely factor to cause lag.

Ahh cool. I get a pretty good ping speed, so it doesn't really affect me.

Almost no one not on fiber optics has 10 MS of ping. Average is 50-100. 1-25 is amazing - 26-50 is good 51-75- is ok - 76-100 is pushing it 101+ is not very good, 300+ is terrible and will definitely cause issues.

Anything over 100ms towards a server in the hosts country is bad and guarentees lag.
I've seen people do ok on some games with 150. It really depends on how well the "net code" or prediction algorithms are. But generally my list holds true, and if you're over 100ms, there's always a risk of issues. 300+ you may as well not even play haha.

One problem I've always noticed with racing games, is a lot of their prediction algorithms don't account for turns, and basically always predict you're going to go straight, which is what causes the lag bubble. If they could program it to predict that in a corner you're going to continue turning, lag bubble on your outside would be greatly reduced. NASCAR games have always suffered the most from this error in programming because of the amount of time you spend side by side.
