All New (lack of) Kerb Physics

Recommended Posts

Sorry but where are these so called "new improved - while stocks last - can't put the power down without Trump winning the election - upset your grandmothers balance - remodelled kerb physics" that Codemasters have been banging on about for the last few months?

I just watched this Austria hotlap and he is climbing all over them, specifically in the first and last corner where they do appear to have some sort of the yellow baguette style raised section (albeit not the correct curbs).

Compare turn 1 with this Rosberg on board.  When he hits the inside kerb he loses a huge amount of time and the rest is, as we all know, history.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjFu90uhWqI

Turn 1 taken at the following speed on the kerb:
F1 2016: 144 kmh
Rosberg 2016: 114 khm

As a wheel user this is really disappointing as I personally feel that many pad users fly all over the kerbs without losing time.
To quote Vettel: "Honestly, what are we doing here?"

He may have assists on. From playing the beta I can assure you on the pad with no assists you cant just hammer the kerbs. You can see from people who already have the game the difficulty they are having.

Maybe Rosberg was slow...last lap of the race and Ham right behind his ass, tyres are off...much pressure.

Also, first corner kerb is pretty flat i think.

Also, Rosberg and Hamilton didnt cut the corner like that guy did. Thats why he can carry more speed as well.

That's exactly the point.. Rosberg and Hamilton can't cut the corner because the kerb puts the car off balance so dramatically it would cause them to lose time.  In the F1 2016 video he flies over it because it has very little effect on the balance of the car which is exactly the opposite of what Codemasters claimed their new kerb physics were designed to do

Yeah and he should even get the time annulled because he was off track with all four wheels. You see clearly that the left front was also right of the white line.

but sure. If the game would do curb physics right we wouldn't have to that problem.

And what im saying is that the kerb in the game is flat comparing with real life kerb. Thats why it doesnt effect on balance that much.

I've just watched the video (which I didn't do earlier). Watch the Rev counter, he lifts when he gets on the exit curbs. That's how you keep it stable in this years game. If you keep it flat you'll spin, lift and it generally remains balanced.

Turn 1 in Australia is a good example, in F1 2015 you could use the Astro turf on the exit and accelerate on it. This year you either avoid it or lift, if you try the same you WILL crash.

I played all 3 betas, there's a difference this year.

You just cannot "cut" the 1st Corner as he did!
Either his Suspension will be toast, and if not there will be to much Agitation in his car to accelerate this clean out of the Corner.
EVERY instructor / race driver will tell you to Keep your wheels off from the inside curb of 1st Corner @ A1-ring!!

The Kerb physics are a huge improvemnt to 2015, where the kerbs were obsolete, but i agree that some bigger kerbs or sausage kerbs still need some remodleing like the last chicane in spain or turn one in Austria to make them more punishing.  Still it is an massive improvement and alsong with strict corner cutting rules you really feel the limits of the track now.

This one in the game you clearly can....................................
How many times i have to say this?? Fix the kerb, make it punishing like you said. Guys from the beta are saying the handling is better and the kerbs are very punishing this year. So clearly is the kerb that is not scaled correctly.

There will always be some curbs and corners that do not react like in real life. The simple reason for that: It's a game! Nobody can programm every little inch of each track that it behaves like IRL. I bet even the simulators of the F1 companies don't do that. So, if you want to find some flaws, you WILL find flaws. Live with them or just don't play the game. Go carting and make your way up til you can join a real F1 team if you're such a hot shot! When I read this forum, I can just shake my head over all these complaints about details that are not working instead of being just happy, that the series go in a great direction. I played the betas and I just can't wait til it's friday, cause the betas were KILLER! Hope for an earlier release big time, cause otherwise I'll only be able to start playing on monday :-(
I really appreciate these forums as a source of good infos about cms F1 games and as a great opportunity to report bugs and get soulutions for problems that occur. But this permanent negativity about every little poo and the "codemasters-rip-us-off"-winery is just childish. I read 1000 threads about bugs that take away the immersion and all I see is videos with people playing with driver tags an 3D racing line on.
Nevertheless, it's funny to read all this. Looking forward to play the game!!!!

The jury is still out for me, but I haven't been that impressed from what I've seen so far.

For me the biggest improvement that helped with all this was the addition of strict rules in normal online lobbies.  They then reversed the decision and went back to track extension fest 2k15.. that was a good week while it lasted

Get a copy of Automobilista or  Asetto Corsa, grab whatever car you want and Clip 1st Corner @ A1-Ring as the guy in the vid. Without skills you might end in the tires wall on the left.
And even if this footage was taken with a pad, the physics are off!!

I played all the betas and the normal kerbs are decent but the "baguette kerbs" need to be bigger. I gave Codemasters feedback from it but they said that if they made those kerbs bigger, it would make cars fly or something like that.

I tested the kerbs a lot in the betas and I was a bit dissapointed how little effect the baguette kerbs had on the cars balance. I could run through them on full throttle and keep on going without any problems.

And just to clarify, I was testing this with the kerbs that are trying to stop corner cutting (IRL). One is seen here on the right side of this picture: https://www.google.fi/search?q=f1+spain+first+corner&espv=2&biw=1024&bih=639&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjD6NfttsXOAhXhC5oKHbPxBoAQ_AUIBigB#imgrc=A615FPKV0shb5M%3A

If your on pc then this is probably moddable. I have a grip file I use which makes off track and kerbs slippy and gravel traps deeper so you can get stuck. Hopefully we can do something with the kerbs again

I've had a 20 minute run at Australia on time trial and the kerbs feel totally different. They are actually killing me the amount of times I've span out. Definitely going to be more of a challenge this year!

Yeah I've spun and crashed out loads of times today at Australia after being caught out by the kerbs and the car unsettling after touching the grass. Massive improvement.
