Early impressions

i was already affraid of this.. people where saying they would fix it blabla but this is a major issue. drivers should be blocking any oppertunity at divebombing. it should just simply not possible to divebomb. i saw it in so many video's of xmattyg and tiametmarduk who was also saying that AI is very easy to catch in the first corner.
I don't really know how you want them to fix thus. If you want to dive bomb 10 cars into turn 1 using cars sides to slow you down you're going to end up in carnage if you want the AI to turn in and block you.

I am not necessarily asking for the AI to turn and block you (but would it be so bad if a couple did occasionally?), but it would be nice if they didn't leap out of the way quite as much as they do.  In real life a driver won't always see you in his mirrors, to simulate this a percentage of the AI should not always leave space for you.

I just got 12th in a manor at Russia..

Ultimate is crap.
i would say thats good its showing that its realistic i wouldnt expect a manor to get last if your really pushing and good at the game and did you make the overtakes on the first corner but didnt have the pace so you started to drop places.

@JupiterJoe From my first experience with the game the AI are actually quite ballsy, I've driven wheel to wheel through entire sectors without them backing off.

That's good to hear mate, thank you.  I haven't played 2016 yet, but I have been a fan of the franchise since 2010 (I skipped 2015, due to the lack of SC and stuff) and have seen the AI gradually improve over the years.  If Codies can just find a way to make the AI fill in the gaps going into turn 1 at the start, then it'd be fantastic.  They can even cheat and write a bit of code that works only on the first lap and let's the AI run slightly wider than they normally would.  Or program it so three or four cars in the field attempt to divebomb down the inside, thus blocking the player's attempt to the same. Hell, even let the AI put two wheels off the track if necessary.  I know it's all easier said than done, but there must be a way.

Guys if you want to play the game like real life try to play in ultimate level no assist full damage and no flashbacks. If you finished 3 or 4 again with no good car or  is so easy or you are the next F1 driver then .

Wow. Just had a first half an hour go on practice with no assists on pad and have to say its waay harder from last year. I hardly survive a lap and thats on Italy which is not that hard of a track but still. Kerbs are finally doing their job especially turn 1 chicane. Its so easy to spin out at corner exits so its way better challenge which i like a lot. This was in qucik race practice with ultimate AI and i was 4 seconds of pace with Ferrari. Dead last. Awesome. It will take a looot of practice to defeat those beasts and im looking forward to it.

But what do i do with career mode. I guess i will play one 25% championship season before jumping in career mode because i want to race with ultimate AI. But being 4 seconds off with Ferrari...i don't want to be 7 seconds off with Renault or Manor...

Same here. Just got it an hour ago on US PSN and found the handling a whole lot different compared to 2015. I felt there was a delay of turn in after steering which must be caused by low grip. I'm going to work now and when I come back, I will start my career with Haas

Feels really good on a Fantec V2 with F1 rim (PC), I`m really enjoying it. It must be really difficult to make a game that works well on the vast array of hardware out there, but on the Fanatec its a winner :-)

My first impressions of the game are relatively positive.

I played for nearly an hour and a half. I'm on Xbox with a controller.

My first time trial was around Gemany. I turned off all assists except for guiding line and automatic gearbox. The lack of traction control frustrated me a bit as I was unable to put the power down on corner exits as much as I wanted and as the triggers don't provide much resistance, it was difficult to gradually feed the power. I also didn't like having ABS off as I like braking late.

I then turned it on and kept TC off.
I did some laps around Canada and found it okay. The car slid around a bit, but I was able to control it. I then put TC to medium and found it more comfortable. I set a lap that was two seconds quicker than without TC on.

I then turned my attention to finding a good difficulty level. Bear in mind that I play Project Cars on 70% and most other racing games on a mid to high setting.

I put the game on Ultimate, but I was getting swamped by the AI in my first race, at Abu Dhabi in a Force India. I put it down to Hard for a race in Brazil driving the Red Bull and found it easier, although the AI cars in front got away from me after a lap or so and were three seconds ahead at the end of the three lap race. I had a decent battle with Raikkonen though. He overtook me on lap one and I got the place back at turn 10 on lap two. He came back past on the next lap, but I overtook him again at the same place as before to finish ahead of him, albeit in the same place as I started, 6th.

I obviously need more practice in order to be faster and judge what difficulty to play on before I start a career, but I found it pretty good for a first go.

Yeah this is the approach I'm taking as well doing a 25 % race championship season first basically to experience all the tracks and to basically decide how best to approach career mode. I have a pretty good idea already about how I'm going to do it thanks to the 3 lap races I did last night before going to bed and earlier on as well but I won't decide finally till I've completed the championship season. I have to admit though the more I'm experiencing racing the Williams the more I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Well I've only played the game for a few hours on Time trial around Melbourne in the dry and wet conditions and can say that the game is really good. I've also tested the AI in regards of lap times as well and on that note they are really good.

DRY - Firstly. I like how you can't just floor it out of slow corners while the car is turning as you will be head first into a wall. Totally different to last year's game, but I'm slowly getting to grips with it. Secondly, curbs and off track are very dangerous lol.

WET - You've really excelled your self when it comes to the rain. It's challenging, but that's how its meant to be. You can't expect to flaw it in a 700bhp+ machine that weighs the same as a ashtray and expect to do good. Great things from the wet weather so far.

As far as the AI go in the dry you have to be pumping near perfect laps to win on ultimate, and in the wet they are seriously quick. Quicker then the quickest person on timetrial.

For people who make mistakes like me haha Legend is the way forward for now until I get better.

I'm going to start a career in the best sounding car on legend and go from there. Also look for bugs as well.

Happy racing everyone.

25% is pointless. No tyre strategy.

Btw, update! Since yesterday's patch the AI no longer are scared to back out of overtakes :D
